I use GreyNoise to prescreen alert noise to get to relevant content. On a typical day, I use it with my SIEM alerts to see if an IP that is incoming is a mass scanner and nothing more. I sometimes feel that there are unnecessary streamlining interfaces. I have to navigate more than I want to and spend more time than required. It’s difficult to think of anything specific off the top of my head, but I think it may be useful for community users to be able to flag IP addresses that have yet to be observed by GreyNoise’s tooling as being potential scanners in some manner, in a similar manner to things like the community tab on VirusTotal. I utilize GreyNoise as an invaluable time saving tool and its very helpful in determining if an IP logging to my systems is worth my time or is just noise. Instead of spending time pursuing a false positive, I can initiate a cross-check of any suspicious activity, and in a moment, distinguish a mass of scanners that is visible to a few, and something that is unique to me. Once in a while, I wish that the information around specific IPs was a bit richer. I sometimes need more context around what specific steps the scanner was executing. I find the web tool somewhat of a pain, especially when I want to execute a number of queries in quick succession. I find myself having to rely on their API for bulk checks. I learn to love GreyNoise for the same reason I truly hate modal cybersecurity noises false positives namely that when an alert does sound it will actually get noticed. A clear and easily adaptable interface along with strong integration makes this an easy product to get started with for my team. Some of the UI seems a little outdated, and the ridiculously small characters can make for tiring eyeball sessions in the long run. Once in a while, it doesn’t automatically load the data from our EDR; I have to cross-verify it myself, which breaks the flow. Ones that immediately come to mind would be AI-driven to increase the speed of identifying newly emerged threats-something Recorded Future is already dipping its toes into. GreyNoise offers complete network protection especially for our company that requires strict data compliance. The real time scanning of the internet is very effective and its great at analyzing possible domain infection enabling us to stop access to such unwanted domains. I really like GreyNoise for the way it shields my vision of the internet; it sifts out all that background noise and lets me concentrate on actual threats instead of running around after benign scanners. At times, the pricing tiers can be confusing, and I would like them to be clearer on usage limits. Much like Cloudflare, GreyNoise can at times be almost ‘too simple’ on first use, leaving some advanced features not quite so obvious to power users.
