Google Voice is a fantastic solution for making calls and texts on your PC. The sound is clear, without any interruptions, and texting is no different than receiving and sending from your phone. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Unfortunately, it's not a complete solution yet. Google has ignored a problem for years that really is a deal breaker for me. I cannot get the notifications to work on my PC. I have the Google Voice window open on Google Chrome and can stare at the tab and still miss a call. I've tried every possible troubleshooting method available on the Internet and Google Voice continues to remain silent when calls and texts come in. Even email notifications are slow, not real time.

Unless you connect it to your cellphone, you'll never receive calls. And honestly, if calls are directed through my phone, I'll just use my cellphone plan, not Google Voice. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

I like that calls from my work number (Google Voice) come to the same cell phone number as my personal phone, meaning that do not need two phones. It also keeps a record and transcripts of texts and voice mail so it's easy to keep work things separate from personal.

The worst part is that not every call that comes in is identified as a Google Voice call. So if a random number pops up, you don't know if it's for work or personal because it's not labeled. Voice has been slowly improving this. Also, sometimes I will get calls with no notification, which can be bad for work but I've gotten in the habit of checking it.

Eventually the call quality got to the point no one could hear me, especially if I was not on a personal internet network. It's not great as a traveling phone number but perhaps if you stay in an office with stable internet. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Need a second phone number without having the expense of second phone line?

You need a Google Voice account. It allows you to mask your phone number as another number. You can also text and get voicemails. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Set up can be very difficult. If the set up crashes during sign up you will not be able to finish. You also have to have a cell phone number. It's not like Skype where it will give you a phone number. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

I work in special education. My favorite part about Google Voice is that I can reach out to the families of the students that I work with in an easy way (via phone call or text message) without using my own personal phone number. Additionally, since I am able to text with families, I am able to use online translation services to copy and paste text for my families that do not speak English. Google Voice is a famous VoIP phone service that provide exceptional call quality at a fraction of the cost. It allows us to place and receive calls from Gmail or phone over wifi for free.
