One great thing about GCP VPC is a global network - no need to hunt your resources around different regions like you still need to do in AWS. Global IPs are simple to understand and work great.

Back in the days it was super-simple to use but features were basic. Now it's feature-rich but of course learning curve is harder.

Another catch is that VPC network peering is not transitive, i.e. if network A is peered with network B and network B is peered with network C, then A can NOT communicate with. People usually trip over this limitation when they have a VM in network A that tries to talk to CloudSQL instance in network B and it doesn't work (since CloudSQL is provisioned in GCP-owned project which is then peered to network B).

You can deploy an internal load balancer as a workaround.

Cloud VPC is a virtual and ulimited network. You can achieve all tweak that you required: packet lenght, IPv6 support, routing, firewall,... The most famous feature is the global network.
