**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** ilknur b. | D, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 15, 2021

**What do you like best about Google Tag Manager?**

With GTM we can add any code snippet to our website without any help from the development team. You can use GTM for adding some variables or Google Analytics events. Because there are many tag and variable templates, it is more than enough for a growth team member.

**What do you dislike about Google Tag Manager?**

There is not a big point that I dislike, but sometimes there are JS errors when running custom JS variables or tags. There is no support team to ask those questions. Because it is a growing tool, I think it needs a more extensive support team.

**Recommendations to others considering Google Tag Manager:**

If you are a small agency or you have a jam-packed development team, GTM is a great tool to add your scripts to the website or any Google Analytics-related integrations.

**What problems is Google Tag Manager solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We add all Google Analytics tracking events via GTM. The development team can do it, but it lasts longer in that way. We add all time, clicks, or view related events and variables via GTM now.

**Reviewed by:** Prashant S. | Senior SEO Executive, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 26, 2022

**What do you like best about Google Tag Manager?**

I like Google Tag Manager because of ample reasons. One is it allows to integrate with multiple platforms and by custom HTML code. Second I can create multiple variables as per required to integrate with third party channel.

**What do you dislike about Google Tag Manager?**

Whenever I tried to add pixel with facebook or domain differentiation - the process is so complex, it needs to be simple and easy to understand. I would recommend google tag manager should release there product use guide.

**Recommendations to others considering Google Tag Manager:**

must use google tag manager platform if you are going to install multiple tags in a single website.

**What problems is Google Tag Manager solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Instead of using multiple pixel code on a single website - I am using google tag manager and managing all pixel codes/tracking codes on a single platform.

  ### 6. GTM Review

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Mert K. | D, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 11, 2021

**What do you like best about Google Tag Manager?**

Google Tag Manager makes it really easy to view and manage all of your third-party marketing tags/pixels in one place.
Google Tag Manager allows non-coders to quickly implement new marketing and ad tracking services that rely on web pixels or trackers.

**What do you dislike about Google Tag Manager?**

It does a poor job of letting you create separate staging/dev environments. It requires a lot of setup and could be much smoother and integrated into the experience.
Even with the debugger, it can be really tough to see values that have been passed from your backend into the scripts.

**What problems is Google Tag Manager solving and how is that benefiting you?**

In my company, we are solving measuring problems with that. We make lots of updates on the website and application, that's why we need to measure different things every day. With the help of google tag manager, we can measure and create other things. We add and update our own tags for conversion tracking, site analytics, remarketing, and more

  ### 7. GTM is the one stop solution to all the product analytics integrations

**What do you like best about Google Tag Manager?**

The ease with which different tools and functionalities can be integrated. Using GTM reduces the turnaround time for any tool.

**What do you dislike about Google Tag Manager?**

Documentation for some parts of the product can be a little difficult to understand, improving that can really help with the use of the product.

**What problems is Google Tag Manager solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It helps to integrate various tools across the product with ease. Making the changes on GTM helps us directly extend the functionality of our existing flows.

  ### 8. Powerful tool, Steep Learning Curve...

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Daniel R. | Head of Growth, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 29, 2021

**What do you like best about Google Tag Manager?**

Google Tag Manager is a very powerful tool, capable of tracking detailed metrics through your site, in order to garner the best possible data for your needs. When using it, there are no holes left to be filled, meaning that all of your needs will be addressed no matter the capacity you use it in. The software is completly free, which is most likely the best part, allowing you to optimize your costs while gaining state of the art tracking that merges perfectly with Google Analytics based on the various tags you are trying to track, and as far as I have tested and used thep platform, there are no bugs associated with it.

**What do you dislike about Google Tag Manager?**

Google Tag Manager has a very steep learning curve, and lots of features are placed where you don't expect them to be. For a beginner, paired with poor UX overall, Google Tag Manager can become a challenge to set up, unless you already know what you are doing or are fast at learning.

**What problems is Google Tag Manager solving and how is that benefiting you?**

With Google Tag Manager, I can optimize my platform tracking to one source, and keep all of my products within the Google Suite for free. I am able to improve my marketing strategies by tracking where my audience is clicking throughout my website, and generating meaningful data that I can use to increase my sales revenue.

  ### 9. A must have tool even for non technical marketers!

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Mithil P. | Growth Marketing, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 13, 2022

**What do you like best about Google Tag Manager?**

The best thing I like about Google Tag Manager is the no-code tagging/events configuration that it allows once it has been all been set up. Because this is such a widely used tool, there are tons of tutorials and videos on Youtube on how to use Google Tag Manager to the best of its potential. I definitely like the scalability of this platform and how much it lets marketers achieve in terms of tagging and tracking without having to worry about being technical or logging onto the website backend every time they need to integrate a platform. I also absolutely like the fact that Google Tag Manager in itself is a platform that is absolutely free for marketers who want to track events or integrate their website with other marketing and sinsights relation integration can take advantage of. Anyone with a basic Google or Gmail account can easily set it up and keep using it.

**What do you dislike about Google Tag Manager?**

There are two things I dislike about the tool in general. First, I do not like the fact that Google Tag Manager as a platform does not highlight that more the integrations on the back end with plugins and tools (basically code heavy), slower it will make our website pages to load. I think this is a challenge for every marker and having slow pages or having plugins that just slow down the load speed of the page is a big no. The other thing I definitely don't like about the tool is that because it is connected to a Gmail or Google account at set up, we often lose access to the account once an employee leaves. I think Google should allow to put corporate emails addresses for businesses to use the tool.

**Recommendations to others considering Google Tag Manager:**

One thing I will recommend to others considering using Google Tag Manager is that this is a must-have tool for you if you can put in a small amount of learning time or watch videos on how to do some things. It beats having to log on to a website back end to integrate marketing platforms.

**What problems is Google Tag Manager solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We are solving many business and marketing problems with Google Tag Manager. The most important one is that the tool now allows our non-technical staff members to input codes and integrations on the back end without messing with the actual website or the content management systems of our website. This is a big advantage as the learning curve has been cut tremendously and marketers/ team members can focus on the more important objectives and goals rather than having to worry about how to set up some codes and platforms on the website back end.

  ### 10. Must Have tool for Google Analytics

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Deva S. | Freelance WordPress Web Designer, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 09, 2022

**What do you like best about Google Tag Manager?**

The number of options to work with is a lot. Google tag manager helps in coming up with multiple ways to track the user interaction on the websites which in turn helps a lot in optimizing the websites.

**What do you dislike about Google Tag Manager?**

Tag manager takes a little bit of time to master, however for its use its a great tool.

**What problems is Google Tag Manager solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use it along with the google analytics to set triggers and track the user interactions with the websites and come up with insights to optimize the website.

  ### 11. Tried and True

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Mike Y. | D, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 14, 2021

**What do you like best about Google Tag Manager?**

Google Tag Manager has been the household name since the early inception of digital marketing. There are newer, more advanced systems out there, but at a larger cost. GTM, is the best resource for any small to medium sized business.

**What do you dislike about Google Tag Manager?**

With time, Google Tag Manager will be obsolete as newer tech comes to the masses. The main component I dislike about GTM is the learning curve. If you are new to this space it will take some time to get comfortable with how everything works.

**What problems is Google Tag Manager solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Google Tage Manager has been a great resource for testing new landing pages, what triggers and events users are clicking on, how they are getting to our site, and what goals are being completed based off user action.

  ### 12. Best way to add third party scripts to your website

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Information Technology and Services | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 21, 2022

**What do you like best about Google Tag Manager?**

- Saves time & won't affect production pages don't need to add analytics code separately on different pages or write code on the project
- Easy to add, pause and remove code

**What do you dislike about Google Tag Manager?**

- a bit tricky to setup need some coding knowledge to begin
- too many things to learn if we want to use conversions and events etc
- we may forget added code because it's entirely out of the project

**Recommendations to others considering Google Tag Manager:**

Use this instead of adding each analytics code separately on your platform
It's completely free. Nothing will go wrong with this move.

**What problems is Google Tag Manager solving and how is that benefiting you?**

- time-saving
- easy to add and remove analytics code
- custom HTML option for codes that aren't available yet on tag manager
- pausing code is a great feature
- live testing using chrome extension is well thought feature

  ### 13. A powerful tool to enhance and add flexibility to your analytics or marketing pixel workflows.

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Program Development | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 06, 2022

**What do you like best about Google Tag Manager?**

With minimal code, any digital marketer can stand up a dynamic market pixel publishing system. While this gives them the ability to add tracking pixels with ease, it also allows them to enhance and add more comprehensive tracking as they mature. It's a tool that can grow with them.

**What do you dislike about Google Tag Manager?**

GTM can be overwrought with complexity. Because it is so easy to work inside the tool, it can be easy overcomplicate tags quickly. Just because one can do something within GTM does not mean that one should. Knowing the nuance of the tool comes with expertise and time.

**What problems is Google Tag Manager solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Classically, marketers that don't have devs or dev budgets can quickly implement their marketing pixels and even institute web data tracking. Companies I've worked with can rapidly deploy marketing pixels and attain a better understanding of their digital marketing ROI as a result.

  ### 14. GTM Is A Swiss Army Knife for Data Analytics

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Audrey K. | Chief Marketing Strategist, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 15, 2021

**What do you like best about Google Tag Manager?**

Regardless of the platform as long as we can add the GTM code to the site we then can follow our internal processes of setting up what data we can collect. It equalized data collection across many different platforms.

**What do you dislike about Google Tag Manager?**

GTM is not for the faint of heart, you really have to understand how it works to get the data you need. Some tags/triggers are trickier than others. This is why testing is so important. There are alot of resources out there to help you find the right combination of triggers to get what you need.

**What problems is Google Tag Manager solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We have created a process of how to implement GTM regardless of the platform. This process consistency allows us to get accurate data faster when we are onboarding a client. Getting the data is the important part not setting up the system to gather the data.

  ### 15. An useful tool that need some work

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Internet | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 08, 2021

**What do you like best about Google Tag Manager?**

The most helpful thing about Google Tag Manager is that, with a single snippet of code, you can gather all kinds of data about the interactions that users have with your website or app. To install the snippet is straightforward, and it takes just minutes.

**What do you dislike about Google Tag Manager?**

The learning curve can be tricky: at first, it is very simple to implement the basic tags, but if you want to monitor more detailed events that happen on your website or app, you can find yourself facing some issues. Setting up tags isn't always easy, sometimes it takes time and effort if you're not used to handle scripting languages.

**What problems is Google Tag Manager solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Google Tag Manager allows monitoring every user's interaction on your website or app, from the single visit to the complete conversion path, without loading the page with many different scripts like we were used to doing just a few years ago. Install the basic Tag Manager script, then add the tags: Tag Manager fetches the inputs and sends them to the Analytics platform. You can collect many kinds of data, for example: funnel completions, clicks, webpage scrolls, other applications monitoring pixels (Facebook pixel and such scripts) or other social networks/API integrations... You can monitor every event that is relevant for you without any edit on the website or the app itself. You just have to create a tag and publish it.
Using only one tag have another effect on your page: you have fewer calls to third-part scripts (you don't need to install them anymore!), the web page is lighter, and both performance and SEO are improved. Improving the performance of the web page is crucial for SEO now, and using this tool helps to achieve better rankings.

  ### 16. Best tool to get Analytics

**Reviewed by:** Doolitha S. | Software Engineer, Computer Software, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

Google tag manager is easy to work and use. There are resources and top-level support from the platform itself. It provides all the data and insights after configuring excellently.

It was a bit hard when configuring the first time, but after that, no issues. Therefore nothing to dislike about the tool.

**Recommendations to others considering Google Tag Manager:**

It's a must-have tool if you have a more significant audience, and you need to get insights based on their actions. It would be best if you tried this tool since it has a free tier.

**What problems is Google Tag Manager solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We could track the user interaction after embedding the code to the web and creating the triggers. Based on the trigger event, we can get the insights and the changes we have to make, and what sections need more attention. It was an excellent tool for the business to grow.

  ### 17. Consolidated setup for tracking custom events

Fact that one piece of code on the website can implement multiple other pixels at the backend is amazing. It reduces code length on site and helps in enabling multipe tracking options

**What do you dislike about Google Tag Manager?**

This is a slightly technical tool that took a while for me to get hands-on with. A hand-holding guide for setting up the first tag or trigger would help noncoders.

**What problems is Google Tag Manager solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Understanding what and where our customers interact on our site by setting up tracking parameters. This helps us track where on the page a customer is clicking or interacting

It is hard to use, you need someone who knows tagging. It is not as same as standart coding, so that IT specialist do not know to use it. It is hard tofind someone who knows using it.

**Recommendations to others considering Google Tag Manager:**

If you would like to integrate new codes to your website without opening tickets to your IT team and without affecting your website performance, it is the right tool to use. You can integrate any marketing tool, any digital analytics code without it needs.

**What problems is Google Tag Manager solving and how is that benefiting you?**

When someone tagged something after a year for example it may be hard for other person to understang all the tagging that had done. It is hard to use most of the time. However, it is one of the most beneficial tools , you do not need any IT person to integrate new things. Also, it does not affect your website speed , because it is not hard coded.

  ### 29. eCommerce must-have

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Christian N. | Director of Marketing and Social Media, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 07, 2021

**What do you like best about Google Tag Manager?**

It's pretty simple. This allows us to add tags and track certain data points and key metrics on our site and see how effective we are at retaining and keeping users. There are a lot of options and integrations available.

**What do you dislike about Google Tag Manager?**

Occasionally the data can be questionable and we have to go diagnose how the tag is set up. This is likely not a problem with non-custom websites however.

**What problems is Google Tag Manager solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Again, this lets us track the most important KPIs for our website data and it would be harder to improve things without it.

  ### 30. A little bit complicated but good after using it repeatedly

**Reviewed by:** Michael C. | Google Ads Manager, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 23, 2021

**What do you like best about Google Tag Manager?**

I really like how in the beginning, I contact Google support because I did not know how to do this. A google rep helped me out with this and I was able to track specific conversions.

**What do you dislike about Google Tag Manager?**

Very complicated at first. You definitely need some guidance before doing it on your own.

**What problems is Google Tag Manager solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Being able to track specific buttons on the website. They help a lot.

WIth some research, the possibilities are endless when it comes to finding out information about visitor behavior. Very useful for optimizing user experience.

It's not intuitive at all but requires, at times, quite a lot of work to figure out how to set up different tags.

I'm using it professionally to set up my various social media ads and Google ads, analyze scroll depth, and simplify coding needed in the header on WordPress

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Mechanical or Industrial Engineering | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 19, 2021

**What do you like best about Google Tag Manager?**

I like best the logic of the tool. You do not need an IT team to integrate new tools to your website or the unique matrix that you want to measure. Also, it prevents any damage to your website's performance.

**What do you dislike about Google Tag Manager?**

It is mainly hard to use because you need to know tagging constructer. It is not enough for you to know codding; you need to know writing tags. What is more, it can be complicated after adding too many tags; it is getting harder to manage all of them

**What problems is Google Tag Manager solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The assistance and requirement of IT department codding services are not required anymore with this tool. If ı want to add a new metric to analytics or to integrate a new marketing channel, I can do it via using this tool

  ### 33. Great tool to manage all analytics containers (tags)

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**What do you dislike about Google Tag Manager?**

Google Tag Manager slows down a site's download speed. And that's the only thing I don't like.

**What problems is Google Tag Manager solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I am managing all tags from one place and that's very handy. GTM also provides debugging capabilities for all the tags you have on your website.

  ### 34. Ease of use with multi functional access and control of GA tags

Our entire Ads and Analytics are being helped by the Tag manager and the ease of use is providing us with real time saving for the Ads and Analytics team.

  ### 35. A great, easy to use free product

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Online Media | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 14, 2021

**What do you like best about Google Tag Manager?**

The user interface is fairly intuitive but there is a big online community out there that usually have solutions to anything you may want to do with Tag Manager.
The debugging and testing process has been greatly improved which makes it so much easier to improve performance.
Google is constantly adding more functionality out of the box which is super helpful.

**What do you dislike about Google Tag Manager?**

There is nothing to dislike about a free product that has few peers.
It can sometimes be clinky to write bespoke code when you cant find an out of the box solution - but I don't think this is much different to any other products out there

**Recommendations to others considering Google Tag Manager:**

You should always try this product. Out of the box it is useful and the online community is so helpful - often with no gain for them.
Try to be organised when creating triggers and tags so that you can keep track of your work and then make changes in the future. Use consistent naming conventions that you wont forget.
when collaborating make sure everyone understands the goals and how things work because it can be confusing looking at someone else's tags and trying to decipher them

**What problems is Google Tag Manager solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Adding custom functionality to Google Analytics such as click tracking, downloads and user interaction.
It also helps with form submission as well as tracking of a single page web app

We wanted to have a better way to organize our scripts and make them easier to maintain, and this tool does this for us

**What do you like best about Google Tag Manager?**

I was able to use Google Tag Manager to create a tracking pixel without having to edit the website coding.

**What do you dislike about Google Tag Manager?**

I found the app a bit confusing just because I'm not very familiar with it. I felt that it was a bit complex for what I needed it for.

**What problems is Google Tag Manager solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I was able to create a tracking pixel that would assist me with running Facebook Ads. The main benefit is that you can easily create a pixel without having to make any changes to the website code. It simplifies the process.

  ### 41. Brilliant and easy to use

  ### 43. Good for technical non-developers

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Mike S. | Ecommerce Site Manager, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 05, 2021

**What do you like best about Google Tag Manager?**

It's free, and it gives you control over some of the content on your site without having to rely on development resources.

**What do you dislike about Google Tag Manager?**

The library of pre-built tags is really small compared to some others (Tealium for example), so you get what you pay for. You tend to end up with more individual tags because you can't really do one dynamic tag for multiple events (for example, "if product page view, pass this event, else if category view, pass this event".

**Recommendations to others considering Google Tag Manager:**

There are other tools that you can buy which have a more polished and easy-to-use user interface, especially if you don't have somebody who understands javascript working with you, but they do come at a price. If you're just starting out with tag management this is a great choice.

**What problems is Google Tag Manager solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We no longer have to wait multiple days/weeks for tags to be implemented, and with outsourced development, we're also saving thousands of dollars a year in development costs. We're able to work directly with vendors to get tags added, tested, and live usually within hours.

  ### 48. Must-have tool for any marketing team

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Dennis M. | Sr. Product Owner / Business Analyst, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 09, 2021

**What do you like best about Google Tag Manager?**

It's free and powerful! You can create pretty great cutsomized rules for firing your pixels: for example, fire Facebook pixel ONLY if users visited at least a few pages and clicked specific buttons.
The beauty of Tag Manager is that you put all of the different pixels/rules/tags in a single platform and customize them all via Google Tag Manager interface vs configuring each one individually

**What do you dislike about Google Tag Manager?**

The learning curve. UI/UX could be improved, however, once you spend a few days in here, you can easily manage it until the rest of your life

**What problems is Google Tag Manager solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We use it as a centrilized dashboard for all the pixels we're using: from Google Analytics, to Yahoo, Facebook, TikTok and Vk.com.

Saves so much time by keeping everything at one place.

**What do you like best about Google Tag Manager?**

**What do you dislike about Google Tag Manager?**

No direct integration with FB product suite. Can still use scripts but can be made idiot proof across teams.

**What problems is Google Tag Manager solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Tracking conversion pixels for ads, experimenting with marketing banners, adding widgets.

  ### 50. Tagging for Everyone

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** James S. | Digital Project Specialist, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 30, 2018

**What do you like best about Google Tag Manager?**

Google Tag Manager is fairly straightforward on building tags, variables and triggers. The interface is clean, all the tools are there ready-to-use, and the tags once published works immediately.

**What do you dislike about Google Tag Manager?**

The how-to's from Google gives you the basics, but on tagging various kinds of elements, it doesn't go deep enough in that regard.

**Recommendations to others considering Google Tag Manager:**

I'd encourage you to look at other resources outside of Google to learn to use Google Tag Manager properly. One of these that I'd recommend is MeasureSchool. Plenty of free resources from that site, and their YouTube channel has been invaluable. I'd also encourage you to check the Google Tag Manager Product Forums. which are public forums by Google. You can post questions, tips and the like, and it can provide additional resources.

**What problems is Google Tag Manager solving and how is that benefiting you?**

This solves the issue for me of having to reach out to IT or a developer to tag elements on a page. Now, I can do this myself, and keep the codes (tracking tags in code are still required initially) to a minimum. I can also test and tinker around with what tags work best without having to place inside the code.
