  ### 2. Hard to Use

**Rating:** 2.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Ashley C. | Marketing Integrator, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 26, 2021

**What do you like best about Google Tag Manager?**

There is a lot of platforms you can choose from to make tags.

**What do you dislike about Google Tag Manager?**

Very hard to use.
I am not very familiar with tags in general, so this platform just confuses me.

**Recommendations to others considering Google Tag Manager:**

Have a good understanding of all the details that need to be filled out. This is really hard to use for someone that doesn't understand all the parts of the tag.

**What problems is Google Tag Manager solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Adding tags to our website . Code doesn't have to be put in to the site after it is made.

  ### 3. A little too much for the beginner level but great if you have the know-how

**Rating:** 2.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Luis P. | Graphic Designer, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 25, 2019

**What do you like best about Google Tag Manager?**

It is a great idea to have and manage all your tags in one place. It integrates easily with other Google services which is the main reason I started using it. It does include tools for all the different problems we face when implementing tags.

**What do you dislike about Google Tag Manager?**

As someone who is not a professional coder but proficient enough on entry-level coding I thought that having a place to manage all the analytics and other tags but the system is not very user-friendly and it is hard to find solutions to your problems online. Perhaps it would be easier to use if the flow was a little more streamlined, but as it is you have to know exactly what you are doing in order to make the process flow better.

**Recommendations to others considering Google Tag Manager:**

Make sure you know exactly what your ultimate goal is for your tags, you may find the tag manager is superfluous for your workflow.

**What problems is Google Tag Manager solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Google tag manager is meant to make it easier to implement and manage different tags on your website, however, I found it difficult to understand and found even less support online for the product.

  ### 4. Beneficial

**Rating:** 3.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Marketing and Advertising | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 05, 2019

**What do you like best about Google Tag Manager?**

**What do you dislike about Google Tag Manager?**

Not as easy to use as other Google Programs

Setting up Conversion Tracking, Google Analytics

  ### 5. Good Analytic Tracking Program

**Rating:** 2.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Apparel & Fashion | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 13, 2018

**What do you like best about Google Tag Manager?**

It's a good management system when trying to consolidate numerous analytical tools. It's a price you can't beat with an easy to use interface. The best tool that they offer in my opinion is that they check for errors and make sure that your tags are working properly.

**What do you dislike about Google Tag Manager?**

Other companies boast similar tag managers that have a cost associated with them but, in my opinion, these programs are much more complicated and provide a little more in-depth data that Google tag manager lacks.

**Recommendations to others considering Google Tag Manager:**

Do research of other data management programs before jumping to this one. They may have tools that google analytics does not and, based upon the level of data analytics your company needs (if you're advertising a lot etc. this is a major point) you might prefer a more "tech" oriented program.

**What problems is Google Tag Manager solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Analytics management and data tracking

  ### 6. A powerful tool for IT professionals

**Rating:** 3.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Hospitality | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 18, 2017

**What do you like best about Google Tag Manager?**

I like the flexibility of creating multiple environments (e.g., test vs. production), ability to house numerous tags, integration into most advertising software and debugging tools, and that it is free.

**What do you dislike about Google Tag Manager?**

The tool is designed for IT professionals with tagging experience and not easy for marketers to use and iIt is difficult to analyze troubleshoot tagging issues (e.g., very time consuming to identify piggy-back activity and assign tag call-outs to actual tags).

**Recommendations to others considering Google Tag Manager:**

GTM is a powerful tag management suite but please ensure you have internal IT support in place.

**What problems is Google Tag Manager solving and how is that benefiting you?**

GTM enables our site analytic and customization tools to work in real time with minimal disruption to site performance. It does the same for enabling better optimizations to our advertising partners.

**What do you like best about Google Tag Manager?**

Confusing to understand how to use and had to call support to help us which took over 4 hours. But the use-cases are great.

**What do you dislike about Google Tag Manager?**

I don't like that you cannot understand it easily.

**Recommendations to others considering Google Tag Manager:**

I recommend calling support right away - it will take a long time but they will help you set everything up and even manage your own computer through a special link.

**What problems is Google Tag Manager solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Business goals with google analytics goals for tagging.

Spending less time and frustration trying to juggle multiple tags.

  ### 15. Google Tag Manager Great for Managing Multiple Tags, but Admin needs work

**Rating:** 3.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Colleen S. | Vice President, Growth Marketing, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 08, 2016

**What do you like best about Google Tag Manager?**

It makes managing multiple tags across multiple sites much easier - especially if you use third party hosting/design services. You can self-manage tags.

**What do you dislike about Google Tag Manager?**

It's impossible to bulk admin multiple containers. When managing 90+ sites, it's incredibly frustrating to have to go in and add users to each one separately and assign roles.

**What problems is Google Tag Manager solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We use third party providers for our web sites, and adding removing tags can take too much time, and result in too many errors - using GTM allows us to self-manage.
