## Google Kubernetes Engine (GKE) Reviews
  ### 1. Streamlined Scaling with Room for UI Improvement

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** akshit j. | Senior Software Engineer, Legal Services, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 28, 2026

**What do you like best about Google Kubernetes Engine (GKE)?**

I like Google Kubernetes Engine (GKE) for its ability to reduce operational work despite the complexity involved in handling Kubernetes concepts. GKE helps with essential features like auto scaling, which is particularly powerful for my production requirements, making it a necessary tool. Also, while setting it up might seem a bit hard without some basic Kubernetes and cloud understanding, the basic initial setup process is pretty straightforward once you get started.

**What do you dislike about Google Kubernetes Engine (GKE)?**

I find the complexity of Kubernetes challenging. Even though Google Kubernetes Engine manages the infrastructure, it doesn't eliminate the Kubernetes learning curve. Auto scaling can unexpectedly increase costs, and idle clusters still cost money. Managing roles, services, account permissions, and securing clusters is difficult. The developer experience feels heavy with too many YAML configurations. Cost transparency is lacking, making it hard to predict billing. Network policies are hard to configure and log tracing is difficult. There are also issues with update stability, API deprecations, and version compatibility. Better built-in distributed tracing and simpler error insights would be helpful.

**What do you like best about Google Kubernetes Engine (GKE)?**

Cluster updates and patching is take care by GKE.
Native service discovery available.
Easy to manage the config part.
Also having Native container Registry is added advantage.
Also the setup and management are quite simple.

**What do you dislike about Google Kubernetes Engine (GKE)?**

Faced some issues while using Persistent storage with GKE.
Also need more Visualisation tools integration with GKE itself, we currently Rely on external plugins for better visibility.
Also learning GKE require a little more effort.

**Recommendations to others considering Google Kubernetes Engine (GKE):**

GKE have some of the Great Leading Features which can be used and it's easy to launch and test. Some of the main advantages are its hassle free and you are free to deploy and use it directly

**What problems is Google Kubernetes Engine (GKE) solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Able to manage and scale up quickly and to create multiple replicas of same clusters. Also for better integration between ecosystem products.

  ### 32. GKE is definitely the most mature kubernetes product among cloud providers

**What do you like best about Google Kubernetes Engine (GKE)?**

It has a great UI and intuitive integration with the kubernetes dashboard. Furthermore, adding users to clusters is definitely a lot easier than the AWS solution.

The integration with Stackdriver is also awesome - great to have all my logs in one place like that

**What do you dislike about Google Kubernetes Engine (GKE)?**

Their support is less than helpful - AWS and Azure both have much better support. It has gotten better, but Google's support is definitely the worst.

**Recommendations to others considering Google Kubernetes Engine (GKE):**

Definitely read on k8s documentation before using it - it will assume a level of understanding of kubernetes.

**What problems is Google Kubernetes Engine (GKE) solving and how is that benefiting you?**

A managed kubernetes service is essential to my job - having to not think about the kubernetes side of things is a huge benefit

  ### 33. Relatively painless migration to Managed Orchestration

  ### 46. Kubernets-definately!

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Sanjay Haresh K. | Software Engineering Intern, Internet, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 02, 2018

**What do you like best about Google Kubernetes Engine (GKE)?**

Fault tolerance - It does a lot of things under the hood to handle failure.
Managing configurations - It is super easy to manage all the configurations, test them, edit them and this makes it very suitable for integrating services.
Service discovery - Automated internal DNS and service discovery make shipping service discoveries very very easy.
Single point of trust - All state is defiened using a distributed key value database. This state is represented using JSON format. This state is fully exposed using an API and server and can only be changed using this service.

**What do you dislike about Google Kubernetes Engine (GKE)?**

Time taken for error detection - It takes more time to deploy automated fixes to bugs.
Illegible logging - A lot of logs are not understandable, difficult to decipher and filled with way too much unuseful information.
It's not easy to learn. Intensive training is required to be of a working capability. It takes months of learning and support from Google to understand how Kubernetes works.

**Recommendations to others considering Google Kubernetes Engine (GKE):**

It is very suitable if you're managing microservices, need service discovery and autoscale and config management then kubernetes is the tool for you. A service can be published, and all your infrastructure can be made to react to this change, load balancers, DNS servers, monitoring, create database, everything can just be monitoring the state in the API server and reconfigure themselves automatically when needed, no more need of coordinating the distribution of more configuration. This is very powerful.

**What problems is Google Kubernetes Engine (GKE) solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Managing microservices, service discovery, auto-scale and config management.
