VPC, Firewall Rules and Policies are so confusing. AWS really did a good job making this simple and I find that GCP is the complete opposite. It's almost as if they said, "let's see how we can make this so confusing for people" I am migrating from AWS to GCP and the transition has been painful. The Documentation surrounding basically everything is up to date and really easy to use. We're able to onboard new SRE developers (and non SRE developers) fairly easily. Everything we need is there and available for use for an affordable price. We also have our own dedicated support individual if we need anything at all (which has happened and they have been super prompt in replying and helping as well!). **What do you dislike about Google Compute Engine?** Hmm... that's a tough one. I don't really have anything coming to mind right now. There has been a few times a beta feature came out that we jumped on only to learn it wasn't being continued and then had to pivot. The main benefit is the fact we can scale/ramp up per demand or project and also reduce the size when not needed. **What do you dislike about Google Compute Engine?** Cost is the big factor when using compute. We have many administrators utilizing gcp platform that sometimes it gets busy. We sometimes lose track of what isn't in use anymore and so getting charged for idle servers. **What problems is Google Compute Engine solving and how is that benefiting you?** Google compute engine is helping us with auto scaling and not having to have a physical footprint. It helps in the fact the we can spin up a server or wind it down per demand. ### 33. Still, I was pleasantly surprised by how easy it was to spin up a machine with the right OS (already up to date) and get logged in. The SSH terminal was auto-configured with keys, so I did not have to faff around getting my SSH keys to my local machine. I am a big fan of how you can create backup snapshots of the VM, an absolute time saver when testing patches and updates to the app I was testing. Networking for the machine was also super simple, and setting the firewall rules was much simpler than I thought it would be and a hell of a log simpler than punching a hole in my current network to test. **What do you dislike about Google Compute Engine?** Although I like how the SSH connection to the machine is easy to set up now, I have had issues where the keys are not transferred correctly. The SSH terminal and GCP console is not very good at telling you why it's having problems; it would be nice to see a troubleshooting wizard to check things like ports etc. **What problems is Google Compute Engine solving and how is that benefiting you?** I like that I do not have to buy temporary hardware to test something and keep it lying around while not used. Another thing is that GCP has the latest OS distros that are up to date, and you know you will not have hardware or driver issues ### 39. Cloud Run for instance, There is no overhead for scaling, other than tunning. Developing for backend can be trictery using windows and having remote environments solve that.
