The free tier is ideal for small PoCs and even an MVP. You can also use it as an extra security layer to access your app or VM. Google Cloud IAP has helped us remove the networking complexity of a VPN and here are some of the other things that I like best

- It's absolutely free to use which would otherwise cost a lot more to configure and use. For example, Auth0 and Okta, also can't be used for internal google resources without a VPN

- Dead simple configuration and maintenance

- Zero user management by leveraging google accounts

- Authorization is a breeze for fine-grained user-level access to the resources

- Support for SSO applications and SAML

FWIW, by design, IAP works best for resources within Google Cloud and if need be, we need to use some proxy services if we want to use internal resources that are not hosted on Google Cloud. It's about time Google builds a simple proxy around IAP to add and use resources that are not within the Google Cloud. We love how IAP eliminates the need for a VPN and is widely used in many of our internal tools and apps. It also has an excellent reputation since Google uses IAP instead of VPNs which can be a bit cumbersome. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Google Identity aware proxy or IAP is best in market to secure unauthorised access to application either hosted on cloud or on premise. IAP is offered as a different service which is not part of GCP bundle or one solution which makes it difficult to procure on cost basis at times. Sometimes on VMs user authentication is inaccurate but free trial is available to run tests before deployment or taking paid services before production which is a plus point.
