## Google Cloud Build Reviews
 ### 1. Universal and cheap to use

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Online Media | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 12, 2020

**What do you like best about Google Cloud Build?**

It is using docker containers as steps enclosures, making it pretty universal and there is a broad selection of ready to use images

**What do you dislike about Google Cloud Build?**

It is mostly good. No features I dislike

**What problems is Google Cloud Build solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We use it to build docker containers based on Dockerfile

 ### 2. Google Cloud Build is an excellent automated build tool in the cloud that is fairly simple to use

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Libraries | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 01, 2021

**What do you like best about Google Cloud Build?**

Google Cloud Build was quite simple to use and understand; it integrated well with other Google Suite products like Google Compute Engine etc. The UI/UX is very similar to what we were used to with other products like Compute Engine.

**What do you dislike about Google Cloud Build?**

There was nothing really to dislike about the product, it was quite reasonably priced, but after moving from Google Compute Engine to Linode, we moved to using GitHub Actions instead and saved on the cost of Google Cloud Build.

**What problems is Google Cloud Build solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It certainly solved the problem of offloading infrastructure to the cloud and performing automated builds offsite. Automating builds speaks for itself as humans shouldn't need to be doing repetitive tasks like builds and deployment - a computer can do that. Automated builds and deployment orchestration made our team more efficient.

 ### 3. Automated builds with great integration to cloud-based version management

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Janne M. | Technical Product Manager, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 03, 2021

**What do you like best about Google Cloud Build?**

Google Cloud Build provides a very logical and easy-to-understand workflow for building applications from artifacts such as source code in an automated, step-by-step fashion. It provides a simple but efficient REST API to even automate the builds outside the Google Cloud platform.

**What do you dislike about Google Cloud Build?**

The documentation of Google Cloud Build doesn't provide good examples of anything, and while the system is logical and easy to use when you learn it, the initial learning has a steep curve.

**What problems is Google Cloud Build solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Automated application deployments in software upgrades or failure situations are our use cases with Google Cloud Build. It provides us a CD (Continuous Delivery) pipeline that is on par with best of breed open-source software attainable elsewhere.

 ### 4. Easy starter tool

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Neel M. | Tech Lead, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 04, 2022

**What do you like best about Google Cloud Build?**

Having used both google and AWS, I think the google UI is much more intuitive and beginner friendly.

**What do you dislike about Google Cloud Build?**

I feel that support is harder to find, as a user who is very familiar with AWS, google cloud differs and I could use the help

**What problems is Google Cloud Build solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Personal project distribution.

 ### 5. Good build tool for CI/CD, especially if you are already involved in the Google Suite

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Consumer Goods | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 09, 2020

**What do you like best about Google Cloud Build?**

Builds can be triggered by PR approvals in source control, allowing automation to take over instead of having to remember to check on build statuses throughout the day

**What do you dislike about Google Cloud Build?**

Haven't encountered too many limitations, but initial learning curve can take a few builds before it becomes second nature

**Recommendations to others considering Google Cloud Build:**

If you are already leveraging Google tools, this is a natural fit. If starting from scratch, check out the feature set compared to TeamCity or other similar tools to see what best fits your needs.

**What problems is Google Cloud Build solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Having multiple devs involved in projects that touch the same code is now easier, as things can be checked in and built throughout the day or week

 ### 6. Easy serverless build.

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Government Administration | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 22, 2021

**What do you like best about Google Cloud Build?**

Serverless CI/CD, very simple to get started, community supported plugins.

**What do you dislike about Google Cloud Build?**

The documentation lacks sufficient examples.

**What problems is Google Cloud Build solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Building and deploying code to multi-cloud Kubernetes.

 ### 7. My review

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Airlines/Aviation | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 13, 2020

**What do you like best about Google Cloud Build?**

I like the virtual computing API it's nearly presented

**What do you dislike about Google Cloud Build?**

MOST OF THE CONPITE ENGINES ARE PAID AND NOT FREE

**What problems is Google Cloud Build solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Building Linux based ROMs

 ### 8. Confusing and lacking support, API changes without notice - choose a different platform

**Rating:** 1.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Tal B. | Head of R&D, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 11, 2019

**What do you like best about Google Cloud Build?**

We liked the Docker-based architecture, the ability to create custom workflows and our own Docker build steps.

**What do you dislike about Google Cloud Build?**

Getting support was extremely confusing; trial customers are eligible for support but cannot open a support ticket, so you have to navigate through tens of pages and emails to be able to get in touch with a support representative.

After investing days of work in Google Cloud Build, we discovered a certain part of the GitHub integration of this platform was modified (with no notice from their end). As a result, we needed to use a certain API endpoint to add build triggers. When attempting to use that API, we discovered it's "Alpha Whitelist access only" - the documentation didn't say anything about this, and there were no links to apply.

After contacting support, we got conflicting answers: one representative told us to contact a Google Cloud Partner, and one sent us a form to apply for early-stage API access. Needless to say, a week after applying, no one contacted us. Support took between 3-5 days to reply and often had no answers.

**Recommendations to others considering Google Cloud Build:**

Check out more mature products offering similar functionality, such as CircleCI. Google Cloud Build is in Beta and a lot of its components are Alpha-stage and are changing without notice. Their support is terrible.

**What problems is Google Cloud Build solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We attempted to create an automated cloud framework for testing student code in our Coding Bootcamp program.

 ### 9. One of the best CI/D tools for a workflow targeting Google Kubernetes Engine

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Andrew S. | Cloud Architect & Senior Software Engineer, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 21, 2019

**What do you like best about Google Cloud Build?**

The build specification is very straightforward and customizable. The ability to use existing build processes/steps, or to roll your own, provides great flexibility. The deep integration with other Google Cloud Platform products, like the ability to push artifacts to Google Container Registry, and then update a Kubernetes deployment via kubectl, makes GCP centric deployments a breeze. The free tier of 120 build minutes/day is very generous, especially for smaller stage startups or small development teams. Deep integration with a variety of source control management systems and platforms (e.g. GitHub, BitBucket) makes setting up build triggers a breeze.

**What do you dislike about Google Cloud Build?**

Some of the provided build steps do not meet my ideal requirements; the kubectl build step, for example, has issues when you try to deploy the same image to multiple clusters as part of the same build step. I also hope to see further expansion to build triggers in the future, as it is currently not labeled as GA.

**Recommendations to others considering Google Cloud Build:**

Read the documentation -- there is lots of great information buried in there on how to optimize build sizes for artifact storage costs, how to use previous builds as a caching mechanism to speed up builds, and remember that you can customize your build resources for a particular build script.

**What problems is Google Cloud Build solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We use Google Cloud Build to simplify our continuous integration and deployment workflows for various internal and contracted projects, where we are responsible for building, deploying, and maintaining code bases.

We have benefited from the deep integration of Google Cloud Build with the rest of Google Cloud to reduce our time to live on new deployments, and overall Ops overhead.

 ### 10. No more build servers! Build and bundle your application in the cloud - for free!

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Janaka B. | Software Engineer, Computer Software, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 19, 2019

**What do you like best about Google Cloud Build?**

The always-free usage tier: 120 build minutes (2 hours) each day, for free!

Highly customizable build process; via multiple stages, each with different container images for running diverse operations: dependency management, compilation, bundling, uploading etc.

Offers container-image and non-container end artifact, with ability to directly deploy the former to a container registry

Ability to configure automatic build triggers for source repos

Builds can be started and stopped on-demand, and monitored via the REST API or gcloud CLI

Several open-source, ready-made build container images are available: https://github.com/GoogleCloudPlatform/cloud-builders

Plenty of example YAML build configurations available on GitHub - most are officially from Google

**What do you dislike about Google Cloud Build?**

There is no way to create a reusable "build template" - there is a parameter substitution mechanism but it is pretty much useless because you need to submit the full build template along with it, for each new build.

**Recommendations to others considering Google Cloud Build:**

Google Cloud Build API is not enabled by default for newly created Cloud Platform projects; make sure that you enable it via the web console or the "gcloud services enable" CLI command!

If your build has a tendency to stall, add a timeout configuration to ensure that it does not unnecessarily consume your daily build minutes quota.

**What problems is Google Cloud Build solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We use Cloud Build to generate deployment artifacts for Google Cloud Platform based projects in our serverless cloud IDE Sigma. The API is CORS-friendly and we can invoke it directly from the user's web browser, and the builds are usually blazingly fast and highly reliable!

Sometimes the most difficult part is not actually know which algorithms to use.

**Recommendations to others considering Google Cloud Build:**

Google Cloud is a pretty interesting tool to use. I was able to learn many different ways on how to utilize, the site.

**What problems is Google Cloud Build solving and how is that benefiting you?**

No business problems as of right now.

**What do you like best about Google Cloud Build?**

It's easy and cost-efficient. Dynamic and configuration can be done easily.

**What do you dislike about Google Cloud Build?**

Sometimes it becomes difficult to configure.

**What problems is Google Cloud Build solving and how is that benefiting you?**

For the ease of using the software.Redundant code is reduced and cost and over head of the coding
