**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Pankaj S. | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 29, 2020

**What do you like best about Google Cloud BigTable?**

It's a managed service of BigData DB by Google with great SLAs. Now we don't need to manage yet another DB (HBase) on our own. It's a managed service of BigData DB by Google with great SLAs. Now we don't need to manage yet another DB (HBase) on our own.

Earlier whenever we used to launch a new growth campaign, we used to first do a lot of work to upscale our systems for the upcoming growth but with the advent of BigTable, it has given us the capability for scaling in a jiffy. And we are very happy with its uptime/low latencies, overall extremely good performance.

Another good thing is the service that we get from the BigTable support team. It is quite good and fast. If at all there are any issues/downtime, a support engineer is always readily available to help us out and the issue is resolved in a swift manner.

**What do you dislike about Google Cloud BigTable?**

In my experience so far, I haven't had much of a problem in dealing with BigTable till now. Pretty satisfied as of now. Things are pretty stable and smooth.

**What problems is Google Cloud BigTable solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It is helping us scale to provide smooth service for our ever-growing user base. We don't need to worry about managing the DB. When there is a sudden need for more space, we can just increase nodes at runtime saving us a lot of headache in scaling our services and maintaining our SLAs.

  ### 17. Great tool to bring SQL and ML together

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Jim W. | IT Development Engineer / Application Architect, Internet, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 21, 2020

**What do you like best about Google Cloud BigTable?**

The ability to combine both SQL and machine Learning in one tool has not been made possible previously. In addition it is possible to actually store data in a horizontal way without directly making relationships between tables. This makes it very easy to actually find data and because storage is relatively cheap as well, it is also possible to store a large amount of tables without comprising performance and/or storage costs. Data duplication has been a problem in the past (which is why we normalized most of the tables before). Working with a database as a service which does not have this limitation makes it very easy to actually store data (even when not normalizing the data up front).

**What do you dislike about Google Cloud BigTable?**

Currently - compatibility with other systems is limited. With the introduction of Anthos this will become possible. The only thing you should take in to account is that you mainly pay for the calculations done on the tables you make. If the table is huge ór if you have a user that does a relatively cost-ineffective query, the costs can go up pretty quickly. Mainly when using large data sets this can be a problem.

**Recommendations to others considering Google Cloud BigTable:**

You need a new understanding on how to work with a Non-relational database. Not all users (specifically those who have been around in the field for longer) might have the same type of experience in using the BigTable tool to write their non-relationhal databases. Working with a database as a service which does not have this limitation makes it very easy to actually store data (even when not normalizing the data up front).

**What problems is Google Cloud BigTable solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Giving people with limited technical and statistical knowledge the ability to run basic statistical models using BigTable & BigQuery. We previously had problems with combining large data warehouses - both BigTable (and AWS equivalent tools) help a lot in making it possible to store larger amount of data (and also make them available)

  ### 18. Best NoSQL Database as a Service - Scale with ease - Minimal effort

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Retail | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 22, 2020

**What do you like best about Google Cloud BigTable?**

It's super-fast, scales easily and there is no compromise on any aspect. The cost is reasonable relative to other vendors. Alignment with BigQuery provides differentiated service from others. It has great geospatial extensions.

**What do you dislike about Google Cloud BigTable?**

BigTable provides consistency for single-row updates but does not guarantee the same for multi-row updates or cross-table updates. Applications need to manage any consistency requirements across rows or tables themselves.

**What problems is Google Cloud BigTable solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Using it as the source of data for most of our APIs in production.

  ### 19. Smooth, but has a learning curve

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Rating:** 2.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Hospital & Health Care | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 18, 2020

**What do you like best about Google Cloud BigTable?**

The model is simple to understand, it's only key-values. It's fast. Integrates well with Go.

**What do you dislike about Google Cloud BigTable?**

No good tooling around for monitoring and visualizing keys. Requires a prior key design, it's not a disadvantage per se, but the thinking model to design your database would be different than a SQL option.

**What problems is Google Cloud BigTable solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Fast access to pieces of data where the key is already known and well defined.

  ### 26. Evaluation

**What do you like best about Google Cloud BigTable?**

Everything in the Google Cloud Platform ecosystem is really well-integrated. If you want to add a firewall to a virtual machine instance, you just add a firewall in the firewall menu. Same thing goes for the cloud BigTable: Google has made really easy to add a scaleable database infrastructure directly to a virtual machine instance, almost like Databases as a Service (dbaaS)

**What do you dislike about Google Cloud BigTable?**

Some of the documentation is a little bit vague and could use a bit more deal, but that usually always comes with time. Also, Google's Cloud Platform general UI is still a little clunky and un-intuitive, although the products themselves are pretty polished. This UI takes some getting used to.

**Recommendations to others considering Google Cloud BigTable:**

If you already use Google Cloud for your cloud services or backend, this service is definitely worth looking at. On the other hand, Google still needs to work on most of their UI/documentation, so if you're considering switching over from a different service, like DigitalOcean, I would give it a second thought.

**What problems is Google Cloud BigTable solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Google Cloud BigTable is really easy-to-set up, configure, and integrate into any backend. They've quite literally mastered the process and made it extremely intuitive.

**What problems is Google Cloud BigTable solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I've seen it actively be used in everyday operations within the US Air Force. It has made me realize that feasibility of sharing data to and from different organizations around the world. I think this has the potential to drastically change the way businesses and government entities to business with one another all around the world. It eliminates the need for many redundant systems and conventional travel-type business. This is a step in the right direction and I cannot wait to see how Google Cloud BigTable transforms itself in the next century,

  ### 40. Google Cloud Platform Big Table - Tremendous Computing Power From Google

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Jordan Z. | Managing Director - CEO, Accounting, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 28, 2016

**What do you like best about Google Cloud BigTable?**

Cloud Bigtable is a fully managed NoSQL database that supports the popular open-source Apache HBase 1.0 API. You can provision Cloud Bigtable instances for your workload, then use the Bigtable HBase client to develop applications using the standard open-source Big Data tools you're familiar with.

Cloud Bigtable is Google's NoSQL Big Data database service. It's the same database that powers many core Google services, including Search, Analytics, Maps, and Gmail.Bigtable is designed to handle massive workloads at consistent low latency and high throughput, so it's a great choice for both operational and analytical applications, including IoT, user analytics, and financial data analysis.

Simply put..it does exactly what it says it will do..

**What do you dislike about Google Cloud BigTable?**

There is a fairly steep learning curve to getting Big Table up and running. It is also frustrating to have need ot use tools on GCP, AWS and Azure because everything can't be found in one place.

**Recommendations to others considering Google Cloud BigTable:**

Before you deploy a product like Big Table, you should understand what your intended use is and make sure that the tools exist on Google Cloud Platform to support it. Second, you need to decide on the level of Engineering Support you expect to need from Google and lock that down before you proceed. You don't want to start with a LOB application only to discover that you get hamstrung due to a technical glitch with the platform.

**What problems is Google Cloud BigTable solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We use Bigtable as the storage engine for large-scale, low-latency applications as well as throughput-intensive data processing and analytics. Big Table lets us scale up the computing power when we have a specific use and ratchet down when we don't.

  ### 41. Emerging Solution for Big Data Storage

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** M. Serhat D. | Senior Software Developer, Information Technology and Services, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 09, 2016

**What do you like best about Google Cloud BigTable?**

BigTable is a part of Google Cloud Platform which makes it a more powerful solution than other similar products. I have been using BigTable to store huge log files of critical services and. I'm pretty satisfied with the results. Performance of the BigTable is unmatchable and the integration features with other Google Cloud Platform products including BigQuery, Compute Engine, Cloud SQL and BigTable is working quite well.

**What do you dislike about Google Cloud BigTable?**

Unlike other Google Cloud Platform products, BigTable is not enough documented yet. Also API options are limited when I compare it with other similar products. Since BigTable is still in Beta version, it still needs improvements.

**Recommendations to others considering Google Cloud BigTable:**

BigTable is a new software released in 2015 and still it covers all the emerging needs and provides common basic features. If you are planning to migrate to the cloud you have to trust the product and Google does it best. Also do not think BigTable as a single product, because it is not. BigTable is only a part of a big cloud data-ecosystem provided by Google and it's power comes from integrations with other products.

**What problems is Google Cloud BigTable solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We have been storing huge log records with BigTable which also let us to query on them with BigQuery. BigTable is a reliable service with no performance issues.
