## Google Analytics Reviews
  ### 1. GA4 Feels Overly Complex and Too Delayed for Real-Time Newsroom Decisions

**Rating:** 2.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Marcos P. | Product Manager, Newspapers, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 07, 2026

**What do you like best about Google Analytics?**

Google Analytics remains a standard tool for long-term audience measurement, offering a solid overview of traffic sources, user acquisition, and broader performance trends. It’s helpful for understanding how audiences find and reach our content over time, and it supports building reliable historical reports.

Its integration with the wider Google ecosystem also makes it a convenient baseline for reporting, with data that’s easy to share and align across teams.

**What do you dislike about Google Analytics?**

The transition to GA4 has made the platform feel significantly more complex, less intuitive, and harder to use for day-to-day editorial needs. Basic tasks that used to be straightforward now take more time and often require extra configuration and a higher level of technical knowledge.

More importantly, Google Analytics isn’t built for real-time newsroom decision-making. The data delay (typically several minutes) makes it far less effective when covering breaking news or other fast-moving stories. For a digital media outlet, that’s a critical limitation.

Compared with specialized tools like Marfeel Compass, which offer real-time audience flow and more immediately actionable insights, GA4 feels out of sync with how modern newsrooms actually operate. It seems better suited to retrospective analysis than to supporting live editorial workflows.

**What problems is Google Analytics solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Google Analytics helps us meet our need for historical data analysis and structured reporting. It enables us to track long-term audience trends, assess acquisition channels, and analyze user behavior over time.

That said, it doesn’t address our more urgent need for real-time audience monitoring, which is critical in a newsroom environment. Because of this, we primarily use Google Analytics for reporting and longer-term strategic analysis, while depending on other tools for real-time decisions.

  ### 2. Steep Learning Curve and Complex Reporting Diminish Google Analytics Experience

**Rating:** 2.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Aman S. | Performance Marketing Head, Marketing and Advertising, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 24, 2025

**What do you like best about Google Analytics?**

What I like best about Google Analytics is the depth of insights it provides into user behavior across the entire customer journey. It allows us to track traffic sources, user engagement, and conversions in one place, helping us make data-driven marketing decisions. The real-time reporting, customizable dashboards, and seamless integration with other Google products like Google Ads and Search Console make it especially powerful for performance analysis and optimization.

**What do you dislike about Google Analytics?**

The downside of GA is its learning curve, especially with GA4. The interface and reporting structure are not very intuitive at first, and finding specific metrics or building custom reports can take time. Some standard reports that were easily accessible in Universal Analytics now require extra configuration, and sampling or data discrepancies can occasionally make analysis less straightforward.

**What problems is Google Analytics solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Google Analytics solves the problem of understanding how users find, interact with, and convert on a website or app. It centralizes data on traffic sources, user behavior, and conversion events, which helps us measure marketing performance and identify what is working and what is not. This benefits us by enabling data-driven decisions, improving campaign optimization, and providing clear visibility into the customer journey, ultimately helping us increase conversions and ROI.

  ### 3. Inferior to it's predecessor

**Rating:** 2.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Benjamin G. | Group Marketing Manager, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 10, 2026

**What do you like best about Google Analytics?**

It's a free to use product that comes from the most heart of the internet (being Google) so naturally has a certain amount of reliable infrastructure

**What do you dislike about Google Analytics?**

GA4 is far inferior to the previous Google Analytics. I find it difficult to navigate and difficult to match what it's reporting with results partner digital agencies are telling me are being delivered from a campaign or traffic

**What problems is Google Analytics solving and how is that benefiting you?**

You can't argue with the price so it offers a basic website analytics platform without any upfront investment

  ### 4. GA4 Feels Hard to Interpret—Prefer the Clearer, Easier Old Google Analytics

**Rating:** 1.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Sports | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 13, 2026

**What do you like best about Google Analytics?**

Google Analytics provides insightful data about website traffic, making it easier to understand how visitors find and use the site.

**What do you dislike about Google Analytics?**

I dislike the new Google Analytics GA4. I find it difficult to interpret the data, and I still prefer the previous version because it felt clearer and easier to use.

**What problems is Google Analytics solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Google Analytics provides useful insights into website traffic and how users interact with the site, making it easier to understand visitor behavior.

  ### 5. Please, Make it More Complicated

**Rating:** 1.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Elizabeth P. | President, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 03, 2024

**What do you like best about Google Analytics?**

It's Google, so it integrates easily with everything.

**What do you dislike about Google Analytics?**

Literally everything. It's difficult to find what I'm looking for, the analytics are different on literally every view, and G4 data overreports Sessions by up to 150%+ of what my ad managers report.

**What problems is Google Analytics solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It's forced me to come up with words and phrases to try and explain the differences between different views and reporting metrics. Everything I report from G4 comes with an asterisk. And forget trying to get help from anyone at Google - I'll have a call with one person, they promise to follow up, and I never hear back.

  ### 6. Increasingly more modeled and less performance and fidelity.

**Rating:** 1.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Retail | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 14, 2024

**What do you like best about Google Analytics?**

The integration is really simple through GTM and all the templates.

**What do you dislike about Google Analytics?**

It is becoming very opaque, it doesn't have real-time, the sampling is increasingly wild, and now it applies a threshold. If you don't pay for BigQuery, you're really tied hand and foot.

**What problems is Google Analytics solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The change to GA4 has been for the worse. Functionalities have been lost, it has switched to a hit measurement model but there is data loss, for example, sessions do not match the session_start event. To make decisions based on grounded data, it is really difficult to trust it 100% and it complicates decision-making.

  ### 7. Difficult and Unreliable

**Rating:** 2.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Olivia H. | Digital Marketing Manager, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 05, 2023

**What do you like best about Google Analytics?**

The vast amount of data you can pull in it

**What do you dislike about Google Analytics?**

How difficult the transition was and now how completely innaccurate our data is now

**What problems is Google Analytics solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Digging more into the demographic data

  ### 8. a poor example of bad product development

**Rating:** 1.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Mervin Lance C. | Freelance Search Engine Optimization Consultant, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 08, 2023

**What do you like best about Google Analytics?**

it's free and is well integrated with products in the google family

**What do you dislike about Google Analytics?**

other common use cases are hidden in 'explore 'feature

**What problems is Google Analytics solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It basically acts as a data warehouse. I don't use it as much when it was universal analytics

  ### 9. GA 4 should be called "Make All of Your Own Reports, We Got Rid of All The Useful Default Ones"

**Rating:** 2.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Computer Software | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 09, 2022

**What do you like best about Google Analytics?**

Nice looking UI. GA 4 kept most of the look-and-feel of its previous version which is a good thing.

**What do you dislike about Google Analytics?**

Almost all of the super popular, easy-to-use, out-of-the-box reports now have to be manually created. Luckily there is other analytics software that still does the trick. The rows aren't even clickable any more so the default views don't dive in to other views, and that is so sad.

**What problems is Google Analytics solving and how is that benefiting you?**

With manual reports created, the company can see how overall traffic is doing, conversion funnel success rates, etc.

  ### 10. Google Analytics

**Rating:** 2.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Ali Zein A. | Financial Services Professional, Financial Services, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 22, 2021

**What do you like best about Google Analytics?**

i think the potential of knowing how to use it and implement in your business is vital. But way too hard to understand and navigate, highly complex platform and confusing

**What do you dislike about Google Analytics?**

Its extremely complicated and not user friendly at all. It takes a very knowledgable and skilled person to be able to navigate this platform and understand the tools, the terminology used. There is also no real useful support to understand how to use this google analytics. The resources available dont do a good job to explain everything. Unless youre very skilled in websites and marketing, it will be hard to use as a business owner who wants to use it yourself.

**What problems is Google Analytics solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Knowing where visitors to my website are coming from. I can see site activity and how many people are viewing my site, what pages they go to, where the majority of visitors spend their time.

  ### 11. GA-Google Analytics

**Rating:** 1.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Marketing and Advertising | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 14, 2022

**What do you like best about Google Analytics?**

custom demo reporting for our clients is pretty good

**What do you dislike about Google Analytics?**

G4 capabilities do not allow for insights

**Recommendations to others considering Google Analytics:**

complete the training

**What problems is Google Analytics solving and how is that benefiting you?**

custom report generation

  ### 12. Powerful.. but bulky and soon to be outpaced

**Rating:** 1.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Information Technology and Services | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 09, 2019

**What do you like best about Google Analytics?**

You can glean a lot of valuable information about visitors, sessions, and visitor behavior. The drilldowns into individual pages in your application or site and the device/browser information is invaluable for us. For general trends in traffic, revenue, etc it's a good data source.

**What do you dislike about Google Analytics?**

It requires a lot of setup and manual work to get what you really need. The UI is hideous, and we run into problems often with GA not tracking things correctly. It has pretty substantial limitations for ecommerce tracking and often isn't close to accurate for conversion rate, number of orders, or revenue.

**Recommendations to others considering Google Analytics:**

Use Firebase instead.

**What problems is Google Analytics solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Helps us track how many users actually interact with specific modules in our admin control panel, so we can figure out which features to improve or deprecate.

  ### 13. You get what you pay for with Google free

**Rating:** 2.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Marketing and Advertising | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 25, 2019

**What do you like best about Google Analytics?**

The price, we’re only using the free product

**What do you dislike about Google Analytics?**

The sampling done by Google makes data mining impossible

**Recommendations to others considering Google Analytics:**

If using for large traffic volumes be aware of their sampling

**What problems is Google Analytics solving and how is that benefiting you?**

High level understanding on website traffic

  ### 14. Difficult to Use and Needs a makeover

**Rating:** 1.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Marketing and Advertising | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 20, 2019

**What do you like best about Google Analytics?**

'Pages' allows me to see how pages are performing on my website and where traffic is coming from

**What do you dislike about Google Analytics?**

The look and feel of it needs to change to make it more user-friendly. There's a lot to be said for design aesthetics but also it's not so easy to understand.

**Recommendations to others considering Google Analytics:**

There's a bit of a learning curve

**What problems is Google Analytics solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Mostly just using the pages tool at the moment. Trying to learn more day-by-day but it can be a difficult platform for the non-expert

  ### 15. Unparalleled data, but very hard to mine

**Rating:** 2.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in E-Learning | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 17, 2019

**What do you like best about Google Analytics?**

The breadth of data you can mine from Analytics has got to be unparalleled.

**What do you dislike about Google Analytics?**

It is very difficult to navigate, and learning it takes a long time (plus constant updates and changes). We basically need to outsource this. I would prefer an simpler program that gave the basics and was easy to navigate/learn

**What problems is Google Analytics solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Customer tracking, website engagement

  ### 16. Not the most effective tool

**Rating:** 2.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Entertainment | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 05, 2018

**What do you like best about Google Analytics?**

I like the platform which was easy to use.

**What do you dislike about Google Analytics?**

The approval time and issues with ads were very high. It took us over 3 attempts to get the results we need and the budget it put us at was very high.

**What problems is Google Analytics solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Advertising our products and clients that we sell or serve.

  ### 17. difficult interface

**Rating:** 2.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Hospital & Health Care | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 03, 2019

**What do you like best about Google Analytics?**

that it comes with the ad package, trying to implement is difficult.

**What do you dislike about Google Analytics?**

no support or guidance. Cannot get support from Google.

**What problems is Google Analytics solving and how is that benefiting you?**

website realization, how to market better to our visitors

  ### 18. Google Analytics Could Be Great But Needs Work

**Rating:** 2.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Marketing and Advertising | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 19, 2018

**What do you like best about Google Analytics?**

I like that I can quick access real time information about our website and specific pages.

**What do you dislike about Google Analytics?**

It can be VERY hard to decipher what I am seeing. You really need your web programming team to be fully invested and to help you deep dive into some of the metrics.

**Recommendations to others considering Google Analytics:**

I highly recommend making sure your web partner is experienced in analytics and can help you set up a dashboard of some kind. There is a wealth of information in Google Analytics but it can be difficult for the average user to find it and extract it correctly-especially if you have a complex website with multiple page trees.

**What problems is Google Analytics solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We are able to see which web pages have the most traffic, what elements on our pages have the most clicks, if our emails are driving traffic where we expect it to go and more. There are many benefits to Google Analytics, you just need a dashboard of some sort to make it easily digestable.

  ### 19. Work with clients who utilize this product

**Rating:** 2.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Marketing and Advertising | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 30, 2018

**What do you like best about Google Analytics?**

I do not have many good things to say here. At least the UTM codes are easy to generate.

**What do you dislike about Google Analytics?**

What is a session? Its a completely made up term that is not consistent with any other metrics. GA does not play well with programmatic, tracking is a nightmare and the reporting is hard to read.

**Recommendations to others considering Google Analytics:**

DO NOT use. It is so much easier to run digital through other companies.

**What problems is Google Analytics solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We've been able (i guess) to track clicks on ads, but not consistently or easily.

  ### 20. Google Analytics

**Rating:** 2.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Telecommunications | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 30, 2018

**What do you like best about Google Analytics?**

User friendly and of course the familiar interface of google translates to this service.

**What do you dislike about Google Analytics?**

The fact that it is Google, they do not necessarily offer something different as other platforms that seem to have a slighter edge on service.

**Recommendations to others considering Google Analytics:**

With all the other services available, I recommend browsing them all in order to find the one that best suits your company's needs.

**What problems is Google Analytics solving and how is that benefiting you?**

To know where traffic to out platform is coming from and other basic insights on users.

  ### 21. Good, Easy to read

**Rating:** 2.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** ME R. | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 08, 2018

**What do you like best about Google Analytics?**

I like that everything is easy to read, and understand.

**What do you dislike about Google Analytics?**

I do not like that there are so many steps to set up.

**Recommendations to others considering Google Analytics:**

Too many calls from Google

**What problems is Google Analytics solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We are using to place ads.

  ### 22. hard to learn

**Rating:** 2.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** shiree w. | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 21, 2018

**What do you like best about Google Analytics?**

i like that there is a lot of potential for understanding the digital potential of our business

**What do you dislike about Google Analytics?**

finding it hard to learn all of the vernacular and options

**What problems is Google Analytics solving and how is that benefiting you?**

we are learning about our web traffic

  ### 23. Good for agencies

**Rating:** 2.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Patrick H. | President, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 21, 2016

**What do you like best about Google Analytics?**

It's free and it's got the Google name attached to it. If you only need the basics of how many visitors you have coming to your site and how long they stayed there, you will enjoy this.

**What do you dislike about Google Analytics?**

For the most part, all analytics platforms are able to collect the same information. It's the ease of use and how they use that information is what sets them apart. Google Analytics is no different. It's a solid solution however you really have to work hard to master it. They have certification classes for it. IMO, it shouldn't be that hard and because it is, while just about everyone uses it, very few really USE it. Extracting useful information from Google Analytics isn't easy so most people just wind up looking at the data that is really more of an indicator than something you can actually make use of.

People talk about number of sessions, pages per session and average time on page like they mean something. They really don't. Google Analytics can track conversions, sort of, if it's integrated with other platforms. Cost to conversion and cost to acquisition is really what people want to see and it doesn't do that well on its own unless you are a real pro.

For that reason, there are lots of other, much better alternatives out there. Remember, if it's free then you are the product and that's exactly what Google has done here. They take your data and everyone else's and make sense out of it.

**Recommendations to others considering Google Analytics:**

Get certified if you really want to make use of this or you will not have much luck with it.

**What problems is Google Analytics solving and how is that benefiting you?**

If really know how to use it you can do some pretty decent things on the surface. If your entire business is online only your results will be better.

  ### 24. See who's looking

**Rating:** 1.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Kathleen K. | Personal Assistant, Human Resources, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 26, 2017

**What do you like best about Google Analytics?**

I like that I can see what is trending to bring people to my webpage and words that they use.

**What do you dislike about Google Analytics?**

It can be very technical. I have been using it on and off for the past 3 years and have not learned how to use it. It was required for my position as a contractor with a journalist and to see the trends of web searches and how to improve my page visits.

**What problems is Google Analytics solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It has helped me pick better terms for my articles. It made me very aware of words that I use and what I should avoid using.

  ### 25. very user friendly

**Rating:** 1.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Marketing and Advertising | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 05, 2018

**What do you like best about Google Analytics?**

has everything i need at the tip of my fingers

**What do you dislike about Google Analytics?**

i cant get a hold of support fast enough

**What problems is Google Analytics solving and how is that benefiting you?**

seeing who we are reaching
benefits on how to change the ad due to who is seeing the ad on what device etc

  ### 26. Good tool

**Rating:** 2.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Retail | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 19, 2018

**What do you like best about Google Analytics?**

Easy to use, easy to teach, easy to go tru.

**What do you dislike about Google Analytics?**

The software is not that friendly, sometimes crashes.

**What problems is Google Analytics solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Poblation data.
Consumer data

  ### 27. Can be hard to understand

**Rating:** 1.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Non-Profit Organization Management | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 09, 2018

**What do you like best about Google Analytics?**

I like being able to pick specific marketing tools that we use in conjunction with our adwords and create a report from that.

**What do you dislike about Google Analytics?**

It can be very hard to understand. I do not find the dashboard to be very user friendly.

**Recommendations to others considering Google Analytics:**

Take the time to learn about each interface. There are so many options for Google Analytics and I know our company isn't even close to tapping into all of them. That is something our company is going to work on.

**What problems is Google Analytics solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Our Board of Directors requires analytics when viewing the ads and how they reach the public. Google Analytics makes these reports possible to fetch relatively quick with the specific dates we need to see.

  ### 28. It is great for performance review

**Rating:** 2.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** nowreen h. | physician, Higher Education, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 26, 2018

**What do you like best about Google Analytics?**

Easy to use, accessible from anywhere and can share with my team

**What do you dislike about Google Analytics?**

Gets complicated to interpret and also complex for team members with no prior analytical skill, the level of understanding is not elementary level, mid level rather

**Recommendations to others considering Google Analytics:**

need to train every user on the google analytics before making it live

**What problems is Google Analytics solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Easy charting and graphing pattern

  ### 29. Informative for website analysis

**Rating:** 2.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Information Technology and Services | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 25, 2017

**What do you like best about Google Analytics?**

Overall information's provided by analytics regarding geographic, behavior and bounce rate and others which are directly or indirectly relevant to website.

**What do you dislike about Google Analytics?**

It have bit complicated user interface so difficult for new user to find what they looking for.

**Recommendations to others considering Google Analytics:**

Its good tool for analysis of your website.

**What problems is Google Analytics solving and how is that benefiting you?**

E-Commerce, Web statics, deep analysis of users action and behaviors.

  ### 30. Google Analytics...say what??

**Rating:** 1.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Public Relations and Communications | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 22, 2016

**What do you like best about Google Analytics?**

I like the fact that there is this system to keep track of website analytics, how your website is ranking in Google searches and measures statistical data.

**What do you dislike about Google Analytics?**

It is very confusing to me to navigate. I manage a freelance PR business and am not tech savvy. But friends of mine who manage businesses and who are tech savvy have the same opinion. There is almost TOO MUCH information, and it becomes overwhelming to understand.

**Recommendations to others considering Google Analytics:**

I would have a bit of website development knowledge when using Google Analytics. I'm sure it is a great service if you know how to navigate it.

**What problems is Google Analytics solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I am trying to determine where my website is ranking on Google and the demographics of who is viewing my site. I have been able to determine demographics information, but that is about it. If I had a few hours in a day to dedicate solely to navigating Google Analytics, I'm sure I could figure it out. But I don't, so I'm sure I'm not keeping up with it as often as I should.
