I use GoodSync for nearline backups of Windows servers and workstations. It automatically backs up the selected system and data drives to another computer on the same LAN, updating shortly after changes are made. I like that it runs seamlessly, does not appear to take up system resources noticeably, and simply does its job. It uses VSS to copy locked files, and I have no major issues with it. I have not needed to worry that it's not working; even though there's a console that I can leave open, it is not needed in day-to-day use as the program runs as a background service. GoodSync support helped me through the first install, and it's been a breeze to maintain. It runs alongside my image backup software (EaseUS) and also Cove Data Protection (cloud backup from N-Able) on the same servers with no conflicts. I use GoodSync for syncing our support laptops to keep them up to date with the latest automation source code. I love knowing without a doubt that the syncing is done in a controlled manner with me in command of which direction to sync, which is especially important. The ability to make decisions on sync direction at a folder level is a standout feature that I appreciate. Additionally, I find the multi-threaded file copying during syncing really beneficial. I like that GoodSync offers a very wide range of features for file synchronization and backup while remaining relatively easy to set up. It integrates well with many storage providers, works reliably in the background, and once configured, it requires almost no manual intervention. GoodSync is a great way to sync your files to the Cloud from an AWS bucket, Azure, M365, SharePoint, OneDrive, or Backblaze. This product can do almost everything and is easy to implement and use. We encountered a significant challenge in providing remote users access to an on-site server while maintaining reliable cloud synchronization and backup.The solution came through strategic deployment of GoodSync, which allowed us to replicate server data to multiple destinations. By configuring GoodSync to copy content to both a cloud-accessible location and a backup destination, we were able to: Enable remote access to critical files without a direct server connection through Microsoft Teams and OneDrive. Ensure continuous online backup to Backblaze or Azure for data protection. Improve reliability and performance by decentralizing access points. This approach resolved our remote access limitations and streamlined our backup workflow. We have been able to rely on Goodsync to either backup or synchronize our servers for over 10 years now. The tool runs itself once any exceptions are setup and schedules set. I wouldn't necessarily call it a downside, but it does seem to have an update available to install at least 1-2 times per week. We always wonder why the tool is being updated so often. Due to a 40 year old ERP system that is hosted in an environment we don't fully manage, we have very old windows servers (still running server 2003 and 2008) that our users share files between, for manual load balancing and performance issues. Due to how old this environment is, there is no modern load balancing tool that allows us to manage the file distribution so we have to ensure the users are all accessing databases which are synced, no matter which old server their RDP session connects to. In this instance, GoodSync allows us to keep the database files synced between the servers (every 15 minutes, 24/7, 365 days a year), ensuring our users are all seeing the same, up to date data. Working for an MSP, I have to distribute USB drives and external drives to my team containing all of our troubleshooting tools. Having them centrally located on a server then using good sink to create quick identical copies of these discs is fantastic. I love that I only have to update the files in the server then have my users simply reconnect their drives for them to be automatically updated. The most helpful component of GoodSync is the ability to blacklist specific file or folder names. This is invaluable when working with projects that contain 1000s of files from package managers such as NPM. The installation and initial setup is easy. The ability to control when syncing will happen is great as I sometimes have different needs for different folders on my device. I use GoodSync daily in my job and it has become an invaluable tool. When syncing large changes, it can often take long, but that isn't GoodSync's fault as I sync to a OneDrive cloud and I believe it has limits on how many requests can be made in a short amount of time.
