GoodData is the Epitome of Tech Debt **Rating:** 0.0/5.0 stars **Reviewed by:** Verified User in Computer Software | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.) **Reviewed Date:** August 20, 2020 **What do you like best about GoodData.AI?** I have worked as an analyst and consultant for 10+ years, and I remember first seeing a demo of GoodData around 2010. At the time I thought it was an amazing tool that would alleviate pain points in querying data. We ultimately didn't move forward with using GoodDatea because of its proprietary language. Fast forward to today and there are so many more powerful analytical tools on the market (Looker, Tableau, PowerBI). GoodData's interface and capabilities really haven't advanced since the demo. In my mind, the biggest value proposition is the cost of the rolling out the tool to smaller less tech savvy businesses. **What do you dislike about GoodData.AI?** • The language is proprietary and has a VERY high learning curve, even for experienced analysts. • The visualizations that can be created aren't compelling or overly customizeable compared to other tools. • Low adoption rate--there is a smaller network of forums for technical questions or support. • When creating new metrics, it's very difficult to understand the relationships between data sets. • You can't copy and paste MAQL directly into the metric editor. You have to type out the code. • Queries that could be easily written in SQL become complicated nested GoodData queries. This makes QA a huge challenge. **What problems is GoodData.AI solving and how is that benefiting you?** I use GoodData with Zendesk Insights for creating operational reporting for our customer service vertical. ### 2. Able to schedule recurring reports. **What do you dislike about GoodData.AI?** Dislike having to select desired fields instead of just typing them out. **Recommendations to others considering GoodData.AI:** None **What problems is GoodData.AI solving and how is that benefiting you?** Pulling data on our Zendesk tickets. It helps to have recurring reports. ### 3. The platform has a steep learning curve with many restrictions. **Recommendations to others considering GoodData.AI:** find another alternative **What problems is GoodData.AI solving and how is that benefiting you?** We used Gooddata until we built data pipelines to better reporting platforms. Online collaboration seems not at par as others. **What do you dislike about GoodData.AI?** Resources was too small for the platform **Recommendations to others considering GoodData.AI:** I dont have any recommendations. I think better social media presence. **What problems is GoodData.AI solving and how is that benefiting you?** Not many problems were solved in my case. More time spent trying to understand the whole application rather than spending it on reports ### 6. Their support team also used to be top-notch. These days, you can count on 3-4 exchanges, across 2-4 days just to 'clarify' the issue. **What do you dislike about GoodData.AI?** They have a proprietary query language that is difficult to use, learn, and get support on. That makes building even basic metrics a highly stressful, time-consuming process. Their modeling tools are great for an extremely narrow, extraordinarily simple set of use cases. Many-to-many relationships are a complete disaster in GoodData. If there are legitimate many-to-many relationships in your model you should stop reading and run, as fast as you can, away from GoodData.
