It's able to "merge" informations from multiple data sources to provide an exhaustive coding experience. What do you dislike about GoLand? Can feel overwhelming at first but the documentation is very well written, I might have missed a hint but I "accidentally" discovered the guides. Debugging, code completion, code templates and end-to-end integrations are all aspects of the platform that allowed me to have one tool for the job instead of multiple software to accomplish different aspects of programming. The debugger has everything expected from other languages and IDEs: breakpoint, variable editing, inspection, etc., and also goes beyond that by showing the variable values as comments directly in the source code when one is debugging line by line. The code refactoring is more advanced than VS Code as it infers correctly the context of the code that is changing, thus avoiding making changes on source code with the same name but unrelated. Their integration with Docker is also pretty good as it can launch and debug an application inside a custom-made container. Another pro compared to VS Code; is that it offers integration with other languages. For example, one can open a database connection on the IDE and it will provide validation and code completion on SQL strings using the metadata from the database. Their IDE is heavy on resources compared to VS Code, and it can be slow if one is still using a legacy HDD or doesn't have enough RAM. Sometimes the IDE became unresponsive and this only went away once we got upgraded workstations. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com. What problems is GoLand solving and how is that benefiting you? We use Goland at our company to develop Go microservices and tools for our infrastructure. We were using VS Code, but their integration wasn't very good and had a lot of plugins that one had to track for updates. The ability to quickly adopt to GoLand and the speed of adoption is what I liked best, and it's a zero step process if you are already familiar or have worked with any other Jetbrains IDE. The following things were uniquely impressive from GoLand \* It is has deep code jump & code traversing abilities allowing users to explore internal libraries \* The IDE code autocompletion is idiomatic to the GoLang language, whereas alternatives don't support this \* It maintains the Jetbrains IDE ecosystem nuances even for a radically different programming like Golang Review collected by and hosted on G2.com. The IDE does not provide Golang specific assistance in certain rare scenarios, for example it doesn't warn when there is a cyclic import which is not allowed in Golang Review collected by and hosted on G2.com. Recommendations to others considering GoLand: If you have already used any other Jetbrains IDE before, go for GoLand. And if not, I would recommend you to take a trail, clear the learning curve of Jetbrains IDE ecosystem and then make the decision. GoLand is, hands down, the best development environment to learn the Go programming language and develop actual software with. Go is different than other popular high level languages, and GoLand helps new developers get over the initial hurdles quickly and start developing good software. It has exceptional intelli-sense capabilities as well as a good number of useful code snippets to speed up coding of recurring code such as looping through the elements of a slice. The integrated debugger is fantastic, and really helps with debugging Goroutines. Another interesting feature is Go projects are folder based, and buy creating multiple subfolders from your main project folder you actually manage multiple Go projects in a single GoLand projects. You have access to the Go command line tool from the IDE so can build and install all your projects right from the IDE. Like other JetBrains IDEs, GoLand comes with a set of educational projects that help you learn the best ways to use the IDE. It has excellent integration with Git, and this is important because Git is the actually the package manager for the Go language. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com. What do you dislike about GoLand? When it comes to Go development there is nothing that I dislike. The only quibble I have with JetBrains products is the amount of disk space they use for caching. Unlike some of the other JetBrains tools, GoLand does not have a community edition and only comes with a 30 day free trial period. 30 days is not a lot of time to decide if you like a product when you are first learning a language. Also, GoLand is feature rich IDE and as such it is complex and can be difficult to get started in, fortunately they provide some adequate user tutorials to get you started. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com. Recommendations to others considering GoLand: You will have to decide if paying for the product is worth it for you. There are not a lot of great free options, Visual Studio Code is perhaps the best alternative. For me, paying the price for this tool is worth it for simplicity of debugging and code completion. If you do use GoLand, make sure to go through IDE tutorials that are offered when you first start the tool, as this will save you a ton of time trying to figure out how the IDE works. I use this tool exclusively for writing Go code, and without it I'm not sure I would have stuck with learning the Go language.
