However, once you understand how it works, it becomes very straightforward. One Of the Best No-Code Platforms Out There But Still Needs Work **Rating:** 3.0/5.0 stars **Reviewed by:** Keith P. | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.) **Reviewed Date:** February 03, 2023 **What do you like best about Glide Classic?** I have tried many no-code platforms from Bubble, Softr, Adalo, Webflow, etc. The issue with them is that it is either too complex and need a familiar background in programming to get started, lack a lot of complex logic to do simple actions which means a user does need to use code, layout isn't the best, documentation can not be helpful and a handful of other stuff. With Glide you get a lot of complex tools right out the box. Distance calculation which a lot of platforms don't have, review button, favorite button, advanced logic, actions, automatically inserted Map Box so no set up on your end,and so much more. The documentation is not only well detailed but short and easy to digest. There are also video alternatives. Glide also comes with it's own data editor which I find to work excellently. Of course if you want, you can use Google Sheets or Airtable as your editor choice. Glide is very fast when it comes to development speed and depending on your app, can be built in minutes. There is over 300 templates to choose from to get your app off the ground. Glide has two separate ways to design: Pages and Apps with Pages being for websites and Apps for apps. Pages is new but has something's I like about it over apps like containers, although not a lot of features have been added from Apps. So I have this to say about Glide: It's fast, advanced and complex, and easy to use. **What do you dislike about Glide Classic?** Now with the positives out of the way, let's get to the negatives. Glide does claim you can create your app under 60 seconds. This is of course if your data sheet is already loaded with...data. But you would still have to design within the app as it's not going to auto create everything. It also depends on the complexity of the app which can take days to weeks or in my cause a month. As mentioned, you can use imported data from Airtable. This would be a bad choice to do so as it will shift the data around in the columns. So if you want to use alphabetical order, it will be rearrange and you can't fix it because you can't drag the data in the columns over each other. The biggest con with Glide is that you give up design freedom in exchange for complexity so all Glide apps look the same. So also giving up uniqueness. Complexity can be an issue. By that I mean you might have to come up with additional ways to achieve a result that Glide doesn't offer which can be more of a headache. You also cannot export your code. The built-in backend functions of the data editor are very helpful, too, and new data sources beyond Google Sheets, Excel and Airtable are being added. **What do you dislike about Glide Classic?** The lack of versioning, the ability to take snapshots to go back in time, has wreaked havoc twice, and I lost many work hours. The app performance also quickly suffers with larger data sets, especially using Airtable. A source with many columns could grow quickly unruly, but improvements are being made. The lack of published apps to work offline is a dealbreaker for some use cases, though I think that's in the nature of a PWA. **What problems is Glide Classic solving and how is that benefiting you?** As an SME we don't have the budget to hire external developers to develop custom apps. Out of the spreadsheet-driven app builders, it is the best. Using Glide Sheets, it is fairly intuitive but can get a bit clunky if you have any math to be done, you are better off using Google Sheets if you don't need to worry about rapid updates and you want the flexibility to do math on the fly. This is a great solution for smaller clients and limited apps. **What do you dislike about Glide Classic?** It isn't scalable. If you want more than 5000 users and 25000 rows in your data, I would focus on other tools that are not as restrictive. Often you need to separate out your clients into new "teams" to avoid getting clipped by the restrictive pricing model. You can get an even bigger limit if you choose the enterprise account and you get 100000. Even that for a large app is a problem. GlideApps needs an unlimited plan that doesn't restrict rows or users and it needs to be affordable. At $99 a month for the smallest plan, it sometimes boarders on "not worth it". I often will go outside Glide if I have ANY indication that I'll go over the limit. Shame actually, otherwise I think this would be a perfect tool for 90% of my clients. **What problems is Glide Classic solving and how is that benefiting you?** Great for building my MVP's, not so good if I need to do anything where I suspect I'll need more than 5000 users or 25000 rows of data. This has now been added, so kudos to the Glide team. To truly secure my mobile app (using a user account approach, i.e. Private Users) worked out to be too expensive to implement as I had more than 3 users allowed on the basic account. This means that users access the app via a random URL, which of course any one could access if they had the URL. The big gap for me at the moment is the ability to use a relational database such as MySQL as a data source.
