Though the organization is continually looking to centralize, curate and make it easier to find what I need, the bottom line is that a powerful search engine will be required regardless. Glean is such an engine. It's where I go to look across all the sources and point me in the right direction. It's simple, yet comprehensive... mostly (see my dislike below). **What do you dislike about Glean?** The largest challenge in uptake AFAICT is making the data available for indexing. For various reasons (mostly security), organizations can choose to limit the scope of what can be indexed by Glean. This creates the obvious downside that information not being indexed will not show up in search results. This isn't a problem with Glean per se, though it does highlight the inherent balance between providing as much information available in results without exposing that which is more sensitive. **What problems is Glean solving and how is that benefiting you?** Making available that which I need to be successful in my day-to-day activities. There's a lot to learn and many places to search to find the information you need. This tool makes it sooo easy to find what you need. It integrates all the systems I use daily - Jira, slack, confluence, and our engineering documentation in a straightforward search interface. Usually, I can find anything I need, and it ranks it based on popularity and access to the documents. Therefore I tend to receive very up-to-date results. 2. It allows me to have a query-answer functionality integrated with slack. I leverage Glean on a daily basis, and it's a game changer. It consolidates all the information across corp tools (slack, confluence, google docs) and allows me to quickly search and find information I'm looking. Given that each person has perferences on how to document, it's great to have all of enterpise search unified into a single tool. **What do you dislike about Glean?** There are some kinks about search that I'm still getting used to. Glean was integrated a year after I joined my company, and certain older docs appear not to be recommended as results that often. That said, these are usually 5-10% of my searches. The other 90% of my searches end up on the right documents. **What problems is Glean solving and how is that benefiting you?** I'd reckon it's saved me 1-2 full days worth of time: chasing down a document, sifting through google chrome history, or pinging colleagues if they were in a thread where we discussed project details. Now, I can independently get context and find answers. The best part is that solutions like Stack Overflow require a push of knowledge into a repo. Glean indexes everything, allowing searches to pull all available information with minimal effort by the person sharing knowledge. Highly recommend this tool! ### 9. The search feature is also fairly intuitive as it recognises most used and most relevant information at the top. **What do you dislike about Glean?** Only minor problem is the UI customisation and the ability to edit and change the layout if necessary. I would allow custom images for backgrounds as well as layout configurator. **What problems is Glean solving and how is that benefiting you?** When looking up files quickly or needing Slack or Zendesk message/articles, it helps save a lot of time and effort without going through pages of irrelevant information. ### 10. Glean is a single search engine for everything I use at work. I love that I can easily get to my search when I open a new tab in Chrome, search is lightning fast (this is a big one), and that I can search across all my work apps in the one place. I also use Glean when I need more information on colleagues and it's so handy not having to open yet another tool. Some of the more advanced features I enjoy are "go links" (I created go/time for timesheets and I also use go links for all of my engagements as a consultant, this way I always have a quick way to get to the info I need). Collections initially seemed like a label or tagging system on the surface, but it's fast becoming my favorite feature because it's deeply integrated with Glean search in a way that allows me to add descriptions to items, sorting items, and adding links that aren't in the index yet. New features and improvements come frequently and the product is always improving. **What do you dislike about Glean?** One of the difficulties has been getting company-wide adoption, to make better use of things like go links and collections. We're looking to roll out the chrome plugin on all machines to address this. Our source of people data was also a little unique, and we had people spread across multiple regions. This meant that filtering that data by region was challenging at times, though it has improved with recent updates. **What problems is Glean solving and how is that benefiting you?** Glean solves the problem of multiple SaaS tools that lead to a subpar search experience (in terms of slow or difficult to operate search, and not knowing which tool will contain the information you're looking for). Being able to quickly find what you need at work can be difficult, and with many tools and a lot of data, sometimes it's easier to recreate content than spend time searching for it, or worse still you may never find or know that a certain bit of content exists. There's also the problem of context switching when searching. Each SaaS tool tends to have it's own different way of searching, it's own page with a list of results, and you end up with open tabs everywhere as you try to look for a piece of content. At the end of the day, the benefit is a streamlined search experience, and being able to quickly find what I'm looking for. I tend to use search a lot more as I now enjoy the experience and can find content much quicker and get back to my task at hand. ### 11. I can confidently say it saves the company time, increases productivity, and has a high level of user satisfaction. **What do you dislike about Glean?** Glean has been great to work with on our rollout and very receptive to constructive feedback such as being able to bulk verify documents, and create subcollections. They are attentive to their areas for improvement. For potential Glean users: It is important to remember that while Glean is awesome, it shouldn't be treated as a silver bullet. Over the last several months, Glean has become an integral part of my daily routine. In a growing company, there is no shortage of product knowledge and resources, but knowing where to look (or even what to look for) can feel impossible. Glean solves this issue. Since it is indexed against our internal company knowledge base, support page, ticketing system, CRM, and document repository, the time I spend searching for information has been cut in half. As a result, I can prep for meetings faster, quickly leverage the institutional knowledge of others at the company (including those who have left), and spend more time working on strategy. Also, huge shoutout to the success, support, and technical integration teams. Not only do they respond to inquiries in SECONDS, but they are also proactive in helping our team to get the most out of the tool. It is so intuitive. Employees at all levels can log in for the first time and begin using Glean within minutes. Outside of the ease of use, their search is one of the best I've ever encountered. Our employees can find content regardless of its location so quickly. It blows all other tools out of the water. **What do you dislike about Glean?** My only gripe with Glean thus far is that we want more APIs faster! I would love to have all the tools in our tech stack connected through Glean. Not possible yet, but hopefully soon! **What problems is Glean solving and how is that benefiting you?** From a knowledge perspective, the biggest problem in our organization is getting the correct information to the right employee when needed. In our current environment, knowledge is spread across multiple tools, and it's not always easy to find. I had already customized the new tab page to my workflow and quick access to the systems I used daily, and when the Glean update was pushed, it wiped out everything I had created. **What problems is Glean solving and how is that benefiting you?** Solved the problem of wasting time searching rather than spending time creating and working. The team has always been fast to fix them though. I find that jira adds a lot of noise to my searches but it like 2-3 clicks every time I want to disable it. **What problems is Glean solving and how is that benefiting you?** It is helping me be a lot more effective at information gathering which is super important as a software engineer. Maybe one day Glean will offer personal licenses so that individuals can benefit if they have the need.
