Intuitive Interface, But Tax Issues Make It SO EXPENSIVE!! **Rating:** 0.0/5.0 stars **Reviewed by:** Verified User in Primary/Secondary Education | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.) **Reviewed Date:** February 02, 2026 **What do you like best about Givebutter?** I like the interface in Givebutter. It's just easier to use, and it's a better experience for the donors. **What do you dislike about Givebutter?** It doesn't collect sales tax on auctions, which means we are liable to pay for the taxes out of pocket. This makes the product ~10% more expensive than any competitor!!! We almost missed this and could have been audited by the IRS. The product is riddled with dark UX patterns. The product claims to have user opt in for tips, but many users report not noticing that they're paying them. When our nonprofit went to withdraw funds from the product, we were deceived into giving GB a 3% tip! Thankfully, they offered to refund this tip, but I imagine that many people don't notice or miss the window request a refund. **What problems is Givebutter solving and how is that benefiting you?** Givebutter allows us to fundraise for auctions similar to eBay, but we keep the proceeds. **Official Response from Shiella D:** > Hi there! Our platform is completely flexible, and organizations can disable tipping if they prefer. If a tip is accidentally added, we’re always happy to refund it. We also have a guarantee to cover processing fees if tips are enabled and donors choose not to pay them, so you can be sure the organization’s donation stays 100% theirs. We know tipping isn’t for everyone, so the option to disable it is always available. We hear you about sales tax as well. I love its simplicity and accuracy. The initial setup was easy, and I have zero complaints. **What do you dislike about Givebutter?** No complaints **What problems is Givebutter solving and how is that benefiting you?** I use Givebutter for donor/donation tracking and communication. It keeps everything in one place and is easy to access. Auction services have positives but need much improvement before we'd use it again. **Rating:** 1.0/5.0 stars **Reviewed by:** Verified User in Non-Profit Organization Management | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.) **Reviewed Date:** August 27, 2025 **What do you like best about Givebutter?** Givebutter did have an easy system for setting up and organizing our event tickets and auction items. We also had the vast majority of donors elect to cover the fees, which meant minimal costs for us. **What do you dislike about Givebutter?** The auction services left much to be desired. The check out process would not work for many of our guests and we struggled to collect payments when the auction wrapped up. Additionally, the inability to mark an auction item as paid for ourselves if a donor paid either by an offline credit card, check, or cash, caused many issues. We would not use this again unless this and other improvements are made to the software. **What problems is Givebutter solving and how is that benefiting you?** We used Givebutter for the first time for our auction that we hold every other year, hoping that it would be easier for our guests to navigate than past services we've used. We use for non-profit giving, and the fees are outrageous for larger donations. **What problems is Givebutter solving and how is that benefiting you?** Givebutter acts as our donation processing software, as well as event registrations. No one has gotten back to us about the details and the chat agents are worthless. **What problems is Givebutter solving and how is that benefiting you?** nothing it made our issues worse ### 6. Once terminated, there is no support that will respond to your request. If you don't act fast they will not send you the money you raised before their abrupt cancellation. **What problems is Givebutter solving and how is that benefiting you?** Givebutter was used to raise funds for a local Sheriff's legal funds that the county refused to cover. Givebutter closed the account giving only the following reason: "After conducting a thorough review of your account, [Non-Profit Org Name], our Content Moderation Team has determined that we are unable to support your usage of the Givebutter platform and will need to deactivate your account." **Official Response from Sunny Ellis:** > Thank you for sharing your thoughts, Joshua. It is sometimes necessary for us to deactivate or close an account that does not comply with our terms of service. I'm providing the link to our terms of service below for your reference. Although you state that we did not send you your money, this is false information. You were able to successfully withdraw all the funds you raised with Givebutter. ### 7.
