## About GitHub Enterprise (standalone)

GitHub Enterprise is an enterprise-grade software development platform designed to support the complex workflows of modern organizations. It provides teams with a secure, scalable, and highly customizable environment for building, reviewing, and shipping software using Git-based version control, powerful APIs, and a rich ecosystem of productivity and collaboration tools. GitHub Enterprise is available in two deployment options: \*\*GitHub Enterprise Cloud\*\*, a cloud-hosted SaaS solution running on GitHub's infrastructure (with optional data residency on Microsoft Azure for enhanced regional data control), and \*\*GitHub Enterprise Server\*\*, a self-hosted virtual appliance that organizations can deploy on-premises or on a private cloud. When purchasing GitHub Enterprise, organizations gain access to both deployment options and can use one or both simultaneously under a unified licensing model. \*\*GitHub Enterprise Server\*\* is distributed as a self-contained virtual appliance running a customized Linux operating system. Once provisioned, it gives organizations complete control over their source code, data storage, and access policies. Administrators can configure authentication using built-in methods or integrate with external identity systems such as LDAP, SAML, or Active Directory. The platform supports two-factor authentication, audit logs, access controls, and vulnerability scanning to meet enterprise security and compliance requirements. Administrators can also customize the platform to integrate other tools or implement custom workflows. \*\*GitHub Enterprise Cloud\*\* eliminates the need for organizations to maintain their own servers, infrastructure, or updates, allowing teams to focus entirely on development. It includes an enterprise account that enables centralized management of multiple organizations from a single point of visibility, with consistent policy enforcement across all repositories. It also supports Enterprise Managed Users (EMUs), allowing organizations to provision and manage user accounts directly from their identity provider (IdP) via SCIM. Key productivity capabilities across both deployment options include: - \*\*GitHub Actions\*\*: Automate CI/CD pipelines and development workflows with up to 50,000 minutes/month on the Enterprise plan. - \*\*GitHub Codespaces\*\*: Cloud-hosted, fully configured development environments accessible from any browser. - \*\*GitHub Packages\*\*: Host and manage software packages privately or publicly, with 50 GB of storage on the Enterprise plan. - \*\*GitHub Projects & Issues\*\*: Plan, track, and prioritize work across teams. - \*\*Pull Requests & Code Review\*\*: Structured code review workflows with required reviewers, code owners, and protected branches. - \*\*GitHub Advanced Security\*\*: Native code scanning, secret scanning, and dependency review built directly into the developer workflow. - \*\*GitHub Connect\*\*: Share features and workflows between a GitHub Enterprise Server instance and GitHub Enterprise Cloud. - \*\*Repository Rules\*\*: Scalable, non-overridable source code protections enforced across every repository in the enterprise. - \*\*SAML SSO & SCIM\*\*: Secure access provisioning and user lifecycle management integrated with enterprise identity providers. GitHub Enterprise also supports AI-powered development through GitHub Copilot (available as an add-on), enabling developers to work with AI agents to plan, prototype, code, review, and fix vulnerabilities. The platform offers a 99.9% monthly uptime SLA for Enterprise Cloud, GitHub Enterprise Support, and optional GitHub Premium Support. Pricing is per user per month, with both usage-based (metered) and volume subscription billing models available. A free 30-day trial is offered for organizations evaluating the platform.

"Reliable Collaboration and Traceability for Modern Software Delivery"

5/5

What do you like best about GitHub?

What I like best about GitHub is that it keeps code, collaboration, version history, and project workflow in one place. Pull requests, issues, branches, reviews, and Actions make it easier to manage development transparently and avoid losing track of changes. It is especially useful when working with partners or distributed teams because everyone can see what changed, why it changed, and what still needs attention. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about GitHub?

What I dislike about GitHub is that it can become complex and overwhelming, especially for non-technical users or smaller teams. Some workflows require many steps, such as branches, pull requests, permissions, Actions, and issue management. The interface is powerful, but it is not always simple to understand where something is configured or why an automation failed. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is GitHub solving and how is that benefiting you?

GitHub helps me solve problems around software delivery, code quality, collaboration, and traceability across complex technical projects. In my work as a senior software engineer and AI evaluation specialist, I use GitHub to manage code changes, review pull requests, track issues, organize project history, and support CI/CD workflows.

The biggest benefit is that it gives me a reliable way to collaborate across distributed teams while maintaining accountability. It helps me compare changes, verify implementations, manage regression tests, document technical decisions, and keep a clear record of what was changed and why. This is especially valuable for microservices, cloud infrastructure, payment systems, AI coding-agent evaluation, benchmark development, and production-grade software work. "Keeps code reviews and team collaboration organized"

4.5/5

What do you like best about GitHub?

What I like most about GitHub is how everything related to development can stay in one place. I use it for code, pull requests, issue tracking, and reviewing changes, so it makes collaboration much easier. The workflow feels pretty natural once you get used to it, and features like branches and pull requests make it easier to work with a team without stepping on each other’s changes. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about GitHub?

The main thing I dislike is that GitHub can feel a bit overwhelming when you're new to it. There are a lot of features, settings, and different workflows to understand, especially around branches, pull requests, and permissions. The interface is generally fine, but sometimes finding a specific setting or understanding why something is configured a certain way takes a little digging. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is GitHub solving and how is that benefiting you?

GitHub mainly solves the problem of keeping development work organized when multiple people are changing the same codebase. Before using a proper Git-based workflow, it was easier to lose track of which changes were ready, what had already been reviewed, or why a particular change was made.

For me, pull requests and code reviews are probably the biggest benefit. I can see exactly what changed, discuss specific lines with teammates, and keep the conversation attached to the code instead of searching through separate chats or emails. Having the commit history and issues linked to the work also makes it much easier to go back later and understand how or why something was changed. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"GitHub Makes Collaboration and CI/CD Seamless with Powerful Integrations"

5/5

What do you like best about GitHub?

I appreciate GitHub for its exceptional ability to streamline collaboration and version control across development teams. The Pull Request workflow is polished and intuitive, making code reviews structured, transparent, and easy to manage. GitHub’s ecosystem — especially Actions, Issues, and integrated CI/CD — transforms project management into a seamless, automated experience. The platform’s reliability, clean interface, and powerful integrations make it an indispensable tool in any modern development workflow. My experience with AI and its automated features has been a mix of impressive capabilities and noticeable limitations. On the positive side, AI has significantly improved my workflow by accelerating repetitive tasks, generating creative ideas, and helping me explore unconventional solutions in programming challenges. It often provides insights or approaches that I wouldn’t have considered on my own, which makes problem‑solving faster and more efficient.

However, AI tools can still be inconsistent, especially in areas that require precision or strong visual structure. Automated UI generation, for example, tends to produce layouts that need extensive manual correction, and the output doesn’t always align with real design standards. Additionally, some automated features struggle with complex or ambiguous requests, which means I sometimes have to redo the work manually.

Overall, AI has become a valuable assistant in my development process, but it still requires careful oversight and isn’t fully reliable for tasks that demand high accuracy or refined visual design. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about GitHub?

While GitHub is an exceptional platform, there are a few areas that could be improved. Some advanced features — especially around enterprise‑level automation and security — are locked behind higher‑tier plans, which limits flexibility for smaller teams. The interface can also feel slow or cluttered when navigating large repositories with many branches, issues, or pull requests. Additionally, GitHub Actions sometimes requires deep YAML knowledge, making complex workflows harder to maintain.

One major concern for me is customer support responsiveness. When I encounter a serious issue and open a support ticket, it often takes months before I receive any meaningful reply. This delay makes it difficult to resolve critical problems in a timely manner. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is GitHub solving and how is that benefiting you?

GitHub solves several critical challenges in modern software development. It provides a reliable and structured way to manage version control, ensuring that every change is tracked, documented, and reversible. This eliminates confusion around code updates and makes collaboration far more efficient. The Pull Request workflow helps maintain code quality by enabling clear reviews, discussions, and approvals before merging.

GitHub also centralizes project management through Issues, Discussions, and integrated CI/CD pipelines with Actions, allowing me to automate builds, tests, and deployments without relying on external tools. This reduces operational overhead and keeps the entire development lifecycle in one place. Overall, GitHub gives me a more organized, secure, and productive environment for building and maintaining software. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
