**Reviewed by:** Aditya C. | Software Engineer, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 17, 2021

**What do you like best about GitBook?**

I can click anywhere on the page and directly start editing or add images.

**What do you dislike about GitBook?**

Had a little trouble figuring out how to add embedded video with a thumbnail. Resorted to just adding a link.

**What problems is GitBook solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Documentation for open source project to invite more contributors and lower the barrier of entry to contribute to the project. Main benefits are we multiple people can update the docs and changes are commited so its easy to see what changed. Plus easy user interface attracts more people to contribute to the docs.

  ### 2. Excellent solution to collaboratively build knowledge bases and other publications

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Enric G. | Doctoral Researcher, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 10, 2021

**What do you like best about GitBook?**

The ease of use, everyone can start collaborating almost instantly regardless of technical skills or lack thereof.

**What do you dislike about GitBook?**

I would appreciate the ability to add social sharing buttons and a function to export the books as an epub file.

**What problems is GitBook solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I am coordinating an international network of journalists, researchers, practitioners and bloggers on mental health. So far we have been running independent national sites run on Wordpress by separate editorial teams. Gitbook is allowing us to collaboratively create and publish a knowledge base based on the thousand of posts and pieces collected so far by the network.

  ### 3. Great user experience and quick implementation time

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Education Management | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 21, 2021

**What do you like best about GitBook?**

The ease of implementation and the power of collaborative tools.

**What do you dislike about GitBook?**

Nothing thus far, we haven't been using it long enough.

**What problems is GitBook solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Culture formation at our organisation through the development of our handbook.

  ### 4. Amazing Platform

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Jean D. | Associate Director for Technology Operations, Information Technology and Services, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 26, 2021

**What do you like best about GitBook?**

The aesthetics and practicality of creating exceptional documentation

**What do you dislike about GitBook?**

Small quirks in terms of creating tables, moving cells up and down. But probably this might be changed soon

**What problems is GitBook solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The way one can easily create a variety of documentation as private and public. The layout and ease to create pages and subpages

  ### 5. Great tool for developers to write documentation!

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** 은휼 . | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 27, 2020

**What do you like best about GitBook?**

Above all, the UI is neat! And it is very convenient to write documents by subject. It was also nice to be able to express code blocks neatly, and it was good to be able to adjust the composition by paragraph. Another advantage is that a thumbnail appears when a link is attached. It is nice that the url is made neat. It is also good to have a table of contents on the right.

**What do you dislike about GitBook?**

In the case of korean, the last character is often cut off when editing and saving. It is difficult to delete blocks of code. It is difficult to insert a cursor to write a sentence on the line after a block of code. I would like to add a specialized module for QA. I wish there were more shortcuts for major commands, and I would like to work with simpler keys.

**Recommendations to others considering GitBook:**

If you are a developer or are learning development and would like to organize and share a product or product development process through documentation, don't hesitate. Gitbook is the best tool!

**What problems is GitBook solving and how is that benefiting you?**

When working on a specific project, I organized the process in a tutorial or guide format. It's also nice to look at simply making a document by yourself, but Gitbook seems to have the best strength in guiding others to something. In particular, it seems like a very good idea to be able to attach code by connecting it to the repo. I felt it was the best tool in terms of writing documentation for developers.

  ### 6. Beautiful docs with an easy-to-use interface

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Research | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 10, 2021

**What do you like best about GitBook?**

The docs look really good, and they are very easy to edit. We previously used a combination of Google Docs and Wiki pages, but I think GitBook combines the ease of use of Google Docs with the functionality of markdown, and adds a beautiful UI.

**What do you dislike about GitBook?**

Sometimes the editor can be a bit finicky when adding markdown. For example, I had some difficulty formatting images.

**What problems is GitBook solving and how is that benefiting you?**

One benefit is organizing all of our documentation into one place. Secondly, we are able to create a very professional-looking public page for users.

  ### 7. Your Open Source Partner

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Information Technology and Services | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 04, 2021

**What do you like best about GitBook?**

I like their platform, it is super easy to use and setup your professional wiki or documentation for your software. It really helps me and my team working on documents in a version control approach. It solves the collaboration issue when creating documentation. Everyone can create their own changes and let the documentation lead decide what should be the best way to document the software project. Another thing, they love to support open source developers to help like me to rapidly produce advanced looking wiki and documentation. As we know open source developers can't spend more time free time in maintaining open source. That's why I found this service a very helpful to me and my time.

**What do you dislike about GitBook?**

I don't have personally dislike about the service. All good for me.

  ### 9. Amazing Service!

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Non-Profit Organization Management | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 26, 2021

**What do you like best about GitBook?**

I love the flexibility to collaborate with my team asynchronous directly in Gitbook instead of opening up a Google Doc, then having to input things into Gitbook. I also love the interface options.

**What do you dislike about GitBook?**

Very easy to use, Gitbook allows you to import documentation from many sources effortlessly, and then any visitor can export a PDF copy of your docs - AND they allow you to attach your own domain name to your account.

**What do you dislike about GitBook?**

$8 / user / month MINIMUM 5 USERS

If they'd let me join solo, I'd do it in a heartbeat

**What problems is GitBook solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It's a fantastic way to keep all of your documentation in one place.

  ### 15. Best of both worlds

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Internet | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 21, 2021

**What do you like best about GitBook?**

Being able to manage a technical wiki with a great editor and UX but also being able to stores in markdown and sync to git. Basically, productivity features that make it feel better than Confluence but with the ability to do bidirectional sync to git as markdown which is unthinkable with the traditional wikis. This is the efficient technical writers dream tool.

**What do you dislike about GitBook?**

It doesn’t appear to be possible jump to markdown from the gitbook editor anymore (only via changes to git)

**What problems is GitBook solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Writing books for publication with great version control and integrations. With the ability to do any post processing on the pure markdown to be pedantic with alternative outputs (beyond web etc)

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Non-Profit Organization Management | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 30, 2020

**What do you like best about GitBook?**

I love GitBook's versioning capabilities! The editing process is reminiscent of Jupyter with the content broken up into cells. The way you structure your documentation is very straight forward. You can get up and running very quickly.

**What do you dislike about GitBook?**

If you're not familiar with VCS or versioning it can be a little challenging for new users to think in those terms. Though, GitBook hides a lot of that complexity.

**What problems is GitBook solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We needed a web-based platform where editors from different organizations could come together and collaborative put together an informational manual. There would be some back-and-forth, so the versioning would be very powerful.

  ### 22. Get good experience with collaborators. And feel smooth with deploy on web.

**What do you like best about GitBook?**

Collaborator and git version control. Make us good with update.

**What do you dislike about GitBook?**

If there is a big repo, gitbook would take a long time to deploy.

**Recommendations to others considering GitBook:**

Take it. It would make your documents so relax and get benefit on that everybody could know you when they search in google. Surely, They could contribute so easily by GitHub commit.

**What problems is GitBook solving and how is that benefiting you?**

get collaborate with my teams on opensource project documents

  ### 23. My time with Gitbook

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Information Technology and Services | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 12, 2020

**What do you like best about GitBook?**

Ease of use for sharing documents and information amongst the team. There was very little difficult getting adjusted to the interface and features, and it made sharing a lot easier amongst the team. I think it is also a bit better than some other file sharing/storing services that are out there

**What do you dislike about GitBook?**

No complaints. I found the product to be easy. I am used to sharing documents via a shared network drive.. So at first the change the Gitbook was a bit offputting. But aside from that, I dont have any main complaints that I would give a "heads up" to someone about or even a critique about the application

**Recommendations to others considering GitBook:**

I think you should give it a shot. It is easy to use, and very helpful for getting archiving information for new and previous employees to have access to. Of course it will take some time to get ued to using, but once you are actually familiar with it, it becomes very handy to use.

**What problems is GitBook solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Problems I solved were mainly for myself, or directing colleagues to being able to find the correct document needed for information. It much easier because the access set up is a lot more convenient than using some other methods for sharing such as a shared drive or etc. Where I feel you have to do a lot of on the fly tampering for permissions at times, because shared drives or online drives don't always recognize a role such as "user", "admin" so there can be issues where someone is restricted from access even though they are within a role to have it. I did not encounter this with Gitbook

  ### 24. Excellent for Collaboratrion

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Sree R. | Product Analyst, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 22, 2020

Great user experience and easy collaboration with team members. The user interface is very intuitive. Organizing content and structuring is super easy. Support was good. We used it for help documents and overall it was an excellent product.

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Primary/Secondary Education | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 26, 2020

**What do you like best about GitBook?**

Easy formatting and publishing features.

**What do you dislike about GitBook?**

The top navigation bar should be more editable and you should introduce more themes.

**What problems is GitBook solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I am writing documentation for my volunteers, if I had not gitbook, I would need to either formatted documents by my own and then make a pdf.

  ### 26. So efficient and rich, yet so easy to use

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Computer Software | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 27, 2020

**What do you like best about GitBook?**

The most helpful things are: It's support for markdown language and the collaborating feature.

**What do you dislike about GitBook?**

The fact that the collaborating feature is paid, it would be amazing to at least offer orgs of 3 to be free.

**What problems is GitBook solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Writing a clear and structured "How-to Guide" for a fairly complex project in a collaborative way (same as Overleaf if that makes sens)

  ### 27. GitBook helped us our open source program a lot by providing us a quick and amazing docs platform

**What do you dislike about GitBook?**

Perhaps there could be a way to overview all spaces at once.

**What problems is GitBook solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Creating documentation for volunteers. Streamlining the hairy nest of google docs!

  ### 29. Excellent

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Information Technology and Services | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

  ### 30. Build elegant online sites - host yourself or on Gitbooks' server

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Education Management | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 11, 2019

**What do you like best about GitBook?**

Gitbooks makes it super simple to create custom sites with tools anyone can quickly learn to use. A primarily drag-and-drop interface and ability to fully customize are major plusses. In addition, it's simple to host on Gitbook's servers or locally on your own.

**What do you dislike about GitBook?**

I wish there had been clearer instructions for self-hosting, although it wasn't too hard to figure out. As with most products, additional out-of-box options would be useful, such as additional templates or more customizable drag-and-drop options (like a more custom side bar).

**Recommendations to others considering GitBook:**

If you've used Google Sites, it's likely you find Gitbook equally if not more helpful. It's a flexible platform for developing sites, with the added benefit that you can privately host the site. The options to edit online and offline (using the desktop editor) are great as well.

**What problems is GitBook solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Gitbooks made it simple for me to create our team's wiki page, and the end result was an elegant site I could host on my own S3 bucket. Gitbook's drag-and-drop interface and a desktop editor for offline editing made it a speedy development process and a great end product.

  ### 31. Gitbook User Experience

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Education Management | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 30, 2019

**What do you like best about GitBook?**

The best part about Gitbook is that it is very team-oriented which works if you are working in a company which involves a lot of collaboration. You can all lay out your thoughts and responses in an organized and efficient fashion and everything is very easy to learn even for beginners. You can easily update your drafts so adding finishing touches or extra edits is never a problem. The docs can also be set to private which makes it safe to use and secure for your team members. It is easy to track too in terms of history edits and it is easy to fix mistakes.

**What do you dislike about GitBook?**

I think there should me more variety in terms of the API's offered, but the ones they have are still nice and it is very easy to search up.

**Recommendations to others considering GitBook:**

If you are using Gitbook I would recommend you extend it with your Github or Slack to get the best out of this software as it is very flexible and adaptable to work with other softwares as well.

**What problems is GitBook solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It is very easy to use for documentation in our work. We can track the ratings and quality of each paper and it is easily synced with GitHub so it can be shown to the public as well. As for our business, it is great for branding and custom domains so we don't have to worry about copyright because the colors and headers are all given to us. It is great for making logos for your business as well.

  ### 32. Cool Wiki - but lacks some features

**Rating:** 2.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Legal Services | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 04, 2019

**What do you like best about GitBook?**

The user interface on both- user side and on the content creator side.

**What do you dislike about GitBook?**

It is not flexible to a limit that a user might expect

**Recommendations to others considering GitBook:**

It is good enough for a medium size organization’s knowledgebase or Wiki

**What problems is GitBook solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Knowledgebase
