  ### 2. Great alternative to Confluence

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Ed H. | IT Manager, Airlines/Aviation, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 13, 2023

**What do you like best about GitBook?**

The import of my legacy Confluence spaces went very well.
I just broke the Confluence exports into small chunks, then the imports came over great.

**What do you dislike about GitBook?**

There does not seem to be a way to move pages between Spaces or export anything that can be imported back into another space.

**What problems is GitBook solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I needed to retire my Confluence server and Gitbook provided an easy to use interface and importing features that made the migration easy.

  ### 3. GitBook is my preferred way to share corporate information and documentation

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Jessica M. | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 17, 2023

**What do you like best about GitBook?**

GitBook's synchronization with GitHub is ideal, and provides a prettier interface for viewing and updating documentation.

**What do you dislike about GitBook?**

I wish it had support for binary files like PDFs in the repo. I'd love to link to our charter, etc.

**What problems is GitBook solving and how is that benefiting you?**

GitBook is my preferred place to store information over GitHub's wiki's and plain GitHub repos. GitBook has the best user experience.

  ### 4. Intuitive Collaborative Tool for all of Our Users

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Jane T. | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 10, 2023

**What do you like best about GitBook?**

GitBook is a user-friendly, intuitive, and flexible documentation platform. The simple, well-designed interface is not overly intimidating for some of our less-technical users, yet has plenty of features for those who need more options.

**What do you dislike about GitBook?**

While the simple markdown style is great for most of our purposes, it can less than pleasant when formatting embedded media. Also, there is a lack of editing options when creating button links that could be improved.

**What problems is GitBook solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Gitbook is helping us have a centralized location for hierarchical documentation with multiple user access levels.

  ### 5. Make things easier

**What do you dislike about GitBook?**

While there is an embed feature, I wish I could control it more. I wanted to embed an airtable form and while it mostly worked, it took me awhile to figure out how to do it.

**What problems is GitBook solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Gitbook is helping Longmont Public Media solve the challenge of equally distributing information to a community. Doing so benefits us because it lets gives everyone access to the same information and lets them learn in their own time.

  ### 12. GitBook is Open-Source Projects Friendly

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Arjay O. | CEO, Co-Founder, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 24, 2022

**What do you like best about GitBook?**

I love that the application is very easy to use, most especially for project teams, which allows for easier collaboration and integration of changes. I also love that setting up the workspace won't take up much of your time, this is a UX design I admire about their workflow.

**What do you dislike about GitBook?**

There's nothing to dislike with GitBook as of the moment, however, there were instances that the application crashed (probably due to my connection), but it's not that much of a big deal since the data is already saved and already recovered.

**Recommendations to others considering GitBook:**

If you're looking for a quick way to set up your project documentation, design system, wiki pages, and anything that requires technical writing, consider using GitBook for these use cases. You won't regret it.

**What problems is GitBook solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Our open-source project requires some guides and documentation for local and production development setup. GitBook allows us to quickly create and update our guides to our users.

  ### 13. All you need to document and collaborate

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Romain M. | Lead Product Designer, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 31, 2022

**What do you like best about GitBook?**

I use Gitbook for my design & product community for documenting and sharing knowledge. It really is the perfect tool to document. Even if it's tech oriented, you can easily bend the tool as you want. The best features that impacted our decisions on this tool was :
- the UI, which is realy clear and also effortlessly customizable
- the fact that the tool is focused on documentation and does not spend useless effort on doing much than that (instead of aNotion with too many features)
- the open-source design of Gitbook, allowing merge request contributions and a git branch system to help us organize new content properly.

**What do you dislike about GitBook?**

We don't dislike anything particularly but we think Gitbook could be better in :
- allowing users to customize more (the UI, maybe hints with custom emojis, also creating new blocks)
- also a personal note: for some reason, we are unable to do the command+/ shortcut on the new MacbookPro on Firefox. clicking to add blocks is a bit frustrating and I think Gitbook should invest more in shortcuts for each platform/OS.
These are only minor fixes and improvements

**What problems is GitBook solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Gitbook is allowing us to have one place to share our resources, articles, books etc to our community, and also to store our community goals and strategy. We also found exciting purposes to this tool like automating HR with a todo list for newcomers, storing some Figma components for our people to use our logos and stuff, and we plan to write tutorials on specific subjects as part of an academy for juniors.

  ### 14. Great GitBook Experience

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Derek P. | Head of Business Development, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 26, 2022

**What do you like best about GitBook?**

Love the ability to sync between GitHub and GitBook. In that way, edits can be made from either GitHub or GitBook. This allows for everyone (technical or less so) to be able to contribute to the documentation.

**What do you dislike about GitBook?**

I would like Change Requests to create corresponding PRs in GitHub. That way the changes can be reviewed from GitHub and/or GitBook, and the change request numbers would sync with GitHub PR numbers.

**What problems is GitBook solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Centralized location for our docs that allows everyone to easily participate in drafting documentation without a technical process involving the use of git. Given that we are a community-driven projects, members of our community can easily contribute to documentation with limited process or technical know-how.

  ### 15. GitBook Review

**Reviewed by:** Shaunak P. | Azure Data Engineer, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed by:** Alberto V. | Core Team Member, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 06, 2022

**What do you like best about GitBook?**

Great UI and UX, it's super easy to change the content of the documentation, the change requests feature is fantastic, and syncing with GitHub is super useful. We love GitBook!

**What do you dislike about GitBook?**

I'd appreciate the product even more if there was support for adding the whole REST API documentation in a separate section. I know that now it supports including single endpoints but for large APIs it would be useful to sync with the whole OpenAPI document.

**What problems is GitBook solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Writing and maintaining documentation is become easy using GitBook. Collaborating is fun and we also allow the community to contribute with the GitHub Sync feature.

  ### 18. A go-to service for writing technical books!

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Information Technology and Services | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 10, 2022

**What do you like best about GitBook?**

Gitbook allows you to have multiple workspaces, some of them Github synced while others are not. This is perfect to allow dev and non-dev teams alike to centralize internal knowledge together in one space.

**What do you dislike about GitBook?**

Logging in using links rather than a password is personally a downside for me. It is slower for me given that I use a password manager that fills in my passwords automatically.

**What problems is GitBook solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Internal knowledge representation is the problem we are trying to solve with Gitbook. Different teams can either use Github or not to document their work so that when new members join our organization, they will quickly be up to date.

It's very user-friendly and works with Github perfectly. It allowed my team and I to work on our own open-source project with ease. The ability to connect it to any domain is very helpful.

**What do you dislike about GitBook?**

As someone who's always writing docs using markdown, I have no problem jumping into GitBook's editors. It's really easy to use.

**What do you dislike about GitBook?**

I don't know if this is already a feature, but maybe add some more customization options like color theme, design of navigation drawers, etc. Other than that, no other issues whatsoever.

**Recommendations to others considering GitBook:**

Gitbook is really flexible, especially for a large team. It has version control which makes it easier to track changes and who's responsible for them.

  ### 32. Easy to use & Open source friendly

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** kursat a. | Co-Founder, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 03, 2022

**What do you like best about GitBook?**

We were looking for a documentation tool for our open source project ddosify. After trying a few ones, we decided GitBook is the easiest and most powerful one to use. It also supports opensource centric companies in terms of pricing. That's an excellent move for the community!

**What do you dislike about GitBook?**

I would expect more customization options. But it is not a must-have for now.

**What problems is GitBook solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We are documenting both opensource and cloud software.

  ### 33. Simple and fast Documentation portal, with excellent visualization

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Federico C. | Quality Manager - CX and UX Solutions, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 26, 2021

**What do you like best about GitBook?**

I appreciate having control over all the documentation, so I chose Markdown as the format for editing and Github for hosting. Then Gitbook will allow you to share all the documentation in a neat, friendly, visually excellent way.

I have not needed much to communicate with support, since their documentation is very complete and accurate. When I have communicated, they have responded kindly and correctly.

Neatness stands out. You can create documentation directly there, having the hierarchy of files in an orderly way, and at the same time, the hierarchy of titles and subtitles.

The Word document importer is excellent. I have been able to upload dozens of procedures very quickly.

The integration with Github has allowed me to solve various headaches, which generates any documentation system with infinite PDF's, versions of versions, etc.

**What do you dislike about GitBook?**

Just some details, for example, not being able to make some more complex tables or use iframes to add specific content. In any case, it is solved without problems, and even this helps to keep the documentation as simple and concrete as possible.

The integration with Github is excellent. However, maybe they could improve in other integrations, with other apps, such as Miro, Trello, etc.

**Recommendations to others considering GitBook:**

I recommend creating a documentation site, both internal to the company and for the client. It will allow you to order it efficiently. Also, automatically, it will generate all the documentation in Github, which in turn you can integrate with other tools or make specific publications.

Something fantastic is that all the content of images will also be automatically uploaded to Github, in special repositories, thus creating an automatic Backup

Another important aspect is access at different levels and work spaces. Workspaces are conditional on repositories.

**What problems is GitBook solving and how is that benefiting you?**

In our case, we share an excellent Quality Management System of a Nuclear Medicine center. It is an innovative way to publish and maintain —all technical documentation, processes, records, etc.

We also share procedures from how to give an appointment, how to communicate with patients, how to bill, generate payments, etc. The notes that I take in the daily work of the office, the truth is that I have already practically forgotten Word. I take them directly on Gitbook

  ### 34. Unprofessional

**Rating:** 0.0/5.0 stars

**What do you like best about GitBook?**

Easy to use layout and thats pretty much everything

**What do you dislike about GitBook?**

Pricing feels like a scam, highlighted price is not real, depends on number of users even if you are the only one.
Contact to support is untraceble

**What problems is GitBook solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Company docs

  ### 35. GitBook, supporter of opensource projects

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Cem K. | Founder & C.E.O, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 01, 2022

**What do you like best about GitBook?**

GitBook offers a complete and easy-to-use framework to generate public documentation. Domain pointing and auto SSL generation are the best parts.

**What do you dislike about GitBook?**

BSL license should better be accepted for the community edition.

**What problems is GitBook solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Fast product guides and documentation

  ### 36. awesome... but could easily be much more awesome

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Bryan G. | Web Developer, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 15, 2021

**What do you like best about GitBook?**

The automatic conversion of your notes into a GitHub repo and a algolia search enabled website.

**What do you dislike about GitBook?**

You can't customize the website very much or easily migrate it to a personally hosted site... the export they enable formats poorly if you deploy the html on say netlify for instance.. I get around this by using the chrome extension to copy their styles on the official website and then us jsdeliver's github cdn functionality to correct my personally hosted deployment.

  ### 37. Great tool to write and share documentation

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Nicolás A. | Researcher (Category V), Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 15, 2021

**What do you like best about GitBook?**

Gitbook is a flexible and easy-to-use tool to write and share documentation files. Some might think it lacks some features available on other platforms. However, I think Gitbook's simplicity is undervalued; it actually makes the creation process really smooth. You don't need to worry about the design, just about the content. It is an all-in-one solution for writing documentation quickly and efficiently.

**What do you dislike about GitBook?**

I would say that it would be great if they could add the possibility of highlighting text and more design options. However, as said before, the options currently provided work just fine.

**What problems is GitBook solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We are writing the documentation of our non-profit project (a diamond open-access journal). The final product has beautiful aesthetics and is very easy to navigate. The tool allows us to create engaging documentation. For a project like ours, this is very important, as we need users to understand the rules for submission to our magazine.

  ### 38. Gitbooks recent update

**Rating:** 1.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Richard R. | Software Engineer

**Reviewed Date:** October 21, 2021

**What do you like best about GitBook?**

The vast amount of tools they have integrated to supplement your documentation

**What do you dislike about GitBook?**

In terms of performance with their recent updates, Gitbook has become a horrible platform to use for ones required documentation. They have not managed their resources correctly and essentially updated their web-app to be almost unusable, and this is probably even more relevant once the scale of documentation increases.

On every change there is an automatic save feature which interrupts anything you do on the canvas, and produces horrendous lag. If I look at Gitbook from a Software Development lens, this recent update was nowhere near ready for production, and clearly was not tested properly upon implementing all these new nice features.

  ### 39. The Go-To App for Documentation

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Information Technology and Services | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 03, 2022

**What do you like best about GitBook?**

GitBook offers a clean and intuitive interface that easily integrates media, code, and other data. User friendly as well, which will delight your customers.

**What do you dislike about GitBook?**

I'd have to say the pricing is a bit high (min $40 per month). However, the cost can be mitigated entirely in many cases (see Community Pricing).

**What problems is GitBook solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I think it should be the go-to place for any public-facing product documentation, as well as help and troubleshooting.

  ### 40. Still in its infancy but awesome nonetheless

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Kurt W. | Senior Consultant, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 08, 2021

**What do you like best about GitBook?**

GitBook is a well-structured application based on simple and solid foundational logic and intuitive UX. Although in what I consider its MVP form, it is already extremely powerful and versatile.

**What do you dislike about GitBook?**

Several features are only drafted and, at times, the documentation seems to overpromise on deliverability. The documentation itself is clear and well structured although certainly bare-bone, maybe excessively so.

**What problems is GitBook solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We published and going to publish, a complex corpus of interlinked documents, GitBook has made it delightful for our users to access them. Also, the version tracking, within its current limitations, has worked very well so far nonetheless.

  ### 41. Gitbook is the perfect tool for Docs and collaboration!

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Non-Profit Organization Management | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 17, 2022

**What do you like best about GitBook?**

Very easy to use for collaboration on open-source projects. Drastically improves navigation and connectivity across large document sets - our team is able to spin-up complex projects with ease and keep track of all the moving pieces.

**What do you dislike about GitBook?**

No negative experiences, really impressed by all the features and continued improvements over time. Also starting to see it pop-up in other use cases.

**What problems is GitBook solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Documentation for projects and development that require an in-depth and inter-connected understanding.

  ### 42. Great way to produce and edit documentation.

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** KEVIN C. | Digital Library Software Developer, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 27, 2021

**What do you like best about GitBook?**

The easy to use UI and platform agnostic data format (git + markdown) are my favorite things about Gitbook. Making documentation easier to create reduces the amount of time I have to spend creating it. It also allows me to publish documentation in a way that's easy for users of my software to consume (they can view online or print to a PDF). Not being tied into a particular platform (since the data is stored in git and uses markdown) is also a big selling point for the product. I wouldn't want to spend a bunch of time creating documentation that I didn't own (because it was locked in somebody else's platform).

**What do you dislike about GitBook?**

The only thing I'd improve is to add more styling options for the hosted gitbooks.

**What problems is GitBook solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Gitbook solves our need to easily document our code. It reduces the amount of time spent on documenting, which makes it easier to get more documentation done.

  ### 43. Great way to build an information repository for your teams.

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Financial Services | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 18, 2021

**What do you like best about GitBook?**

Gitbooks makes it easy to house all docs related to our processes and procedures in one place. All teams have access and it helps bridge the understanding gap as to why we do things a certain way, legal ramifications, etc.

**What do you dislike about GitBook?**

Nothing negative at this time. We like gitbooks

**What problems is GitBook solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We have a robust training program but needed a place to house all of our documentation regarding processes and procedures. This helps us stay organized, without having to send updates all the time as we can update in one place so everyone has the most recent version at all times.

  ### 44. The best alternative to write documentation in an open and collaborative environment.

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Government Administration | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 08, 2021

**What do you like best about GitBook?**

The possibility that many people can come together in the design and improvement of a collaborative endeavor. The end product is aesthetically pleasing, and the books are highly customizable/upgradeable.

**What do you dislike about GitBook?**

The onboarding for people that never used these sorts of platforms increases adoption friction within a team, but once they realize the power of the tool, these objections are overcome.

**What problems is GitBook solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We are writing the documentation for a DAO called Proof of Humanity. There are few resources, so we tend to crowdsource the generation of the manuals and tutorials.

  ### 45. Beautiful documentations!

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Argentum O. | Project Leader, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 11, 2021

**What do you like best about GitBook?**

The look and feel of the generated documentation are beautiful. I couldn't wish anything more
The tool is straightforward to use; we haven't had to teach any of our team members how to use it. Every step in the process of creating a space and having your documentation ready was self-explanatory.
Gitbook supports the open souce/ngo community with free, unlimited service.
Their online support is helpful and fast, something needed and much appreciated in a fast paced environment like ours.

**What do you dislike about GitBook?**

I haven't found anything wrong yet, but I guess there will be at least something. So far, everything has been great!

**What problems is GitBook solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Documentation is not something everyone likes. The best way of introducing documentation to our customers is to have it as beautiful as possible.
Gitbook enables us to reach our goal of having all our tools and projects documented and available to our users.

  ### 46. whitepaper

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Internet | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 17, 2022

**What do you like best about GitBook?**

Great way to create a whitepaper that your team can work collectively on together and have portrayed to the general public, especially if it open source. I like it better than Google Docs.

**What do you dislike about GitBook?**

Unfortunately it is not clear when you start using GitBook that in order for your team to collaborate together, you need to be subscribed under some sort of plan.

**What problems is GitBook solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We are creating a wiki for our organization as well as a whitepaper, the wiki we are creating helps us to get all of our projects together for our nascent project.

  ### 47. Very easy to handle complex documentation, manage versions and organize sections

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Massimo L. | Developer Advocate, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 17, 2022

**What do you like best about GitBook?**

Organize doc into interconnecting pages and sections, give documentation a structure

**What do you dislike about GitBook?**

Sometimes the terminology is a bit confusing, like "variants" can be used to create documentation for different software versions.

**What problems is GitBook solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Create our product documentation. No need to get crazy handling the structure and pages interconnections. Helps speeding up the process

  ### 48. Very good experience

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Gatekin L. | CEO, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 13, 2021

**What do you like best about GitBook?**

The tool, the service, and the support are of great quality and reliability, in addition to having good responsiveness.

**What do you dislike about GitBook?**

If I had understood some of the information such as the plans of the non-profits, I would have made the move earlier.

**Recommendations to others considering GitBook:**

Have more information on the plans of non-profit organizations, perhaps highlight more for teenagers, students, and associations like us.

**What problems is GitBook solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It allows me to focus on the content rather than the form with a very well-known Markdown format, the fact that I can synchronize it to my Git repository. This allows me to be efficient while collaborating with my team on this tool. It also integrated excellent functionality such as auto-embed. It is also ready to use for SEO frankly, it is the most practical tool in 2021 to make documentation for our open-source projects and more. Thanks a lot

  ### 49. Awesome Platform for Opensource projects

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Neeranjan M. | Cybersecurity Specialist, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 21, 2021

**What do you like best about GitBook?**

All your documentation/notes are in the cloud. There is no need to care about synchronization across web servers/devices. They also have a custom domain option!

**What do you dislike about GitBook?**

Nothing tbh. Everything I need is here and it all makes life way simpler for me and my workflow!

**What problems is GitBook solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I've always been self hosting multiple servers and tons of CMS to maintain my documentations across multiple projects. This was always a hassle for me as I had to micromanage each CMS and ensure the content is displayed properly. However, with Gitbook, everything is just done for you 😂 All you have to do is come with the content and throw it int!!

  ### 50. I love it :)

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Tarik H. | Freelancer, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 24, 2021

**What do you like best about GitBook?**

Easy UI and very intuitive to use. It's hard to make something wrong.

**What do you dislike about GitBook?**

The sync to GitHub should be cleaner. The text in GitHub should not contain too much background data.

**What problems is GitBook solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It was hard before to sync the documentation for multiple packages in a single GitHub project. Now it's easier than ever and it even makes fun to write documentation.
