In performing project reviews, it presents me with a much clearer picture for looking at the bones of the model and rapidly checking different components for potential errors. As a designer it is much easier to overlay my entire project and manipulate variables as needed. **What do you dislike about GeoHECRAS?** At times when exporting a GeoHECRAS file to a user outside of the office, there can be some manipulations at least in visual representations of geometry if they are opening the file in HEC-RAS. This typically is most present in roadways. The user interface is intuitive and visually driven, making it easy to build and edit the model. The ability to automatically generate cross sections and quickly adjust geometry in a CAD-like environment saved a lot of time. The wide variety of outputs, such as animations, profile plots, and map views, were especially helpful for visualizing flow patterns. Overall, GeoHECRAS provided a smoother and more efficient modeling experience! **What do you dislike about GeoHECRAS?** A few enhancements would further improve the user experience. It would be helpful to have the ability to sort and filter output tables within the profile line plot data tables, and to view stationing in feet on the map view along the profile lines. We would also like to see expanded CAD-like capabilities, such as tools to easily offset polylines by a specific distance. Additionally, when troubleshooting model errors, even though cell IDs were shown in the computation logs, it was still challenging to identify which cells in the 2D flow area were causing problems with so many cell on the map view. The program also lets you view and process numerous CAD and GIS file formats without purchasing separate software. **What do you dislike about GeoHECRAS?** There is a bit of a learning curve because the program has so many capabilities, but the support staff is most helpful in helping master the program. I also utilize the velocity and shear stress mapping with velocity vectors to demonstrate to project stakeholders where restoration treatments would be most needed and effective to protect against the erosional forces of rivers. **What do you dislike about GeoHECRAS?** In my experience, whenever you make a change to a terrain, you need to rename that terrain otherwise you will get an error when you run the model. This is not a major issue but can be inconvenient and is not intuitive to know that you need to re-save the terrain file with a new name. The variable size mesh size helps speed up model runs by only having a tight mesh where needed. It is more user friendly than HEC-RAS where you have to jump around between tools such as Ras Mapper and the geometric data editor. It has been easy for me to teach engineer interns how to work on models using GeoHECRAS. It simplifies the creation of a model by easily adding georeferenced soil data, land cover data, NLCD land roughness, etc...which can be edited if needed. It also includes the ability to add aerial, hybrid, or street backgrounds to make it easy to draw aerials accurately within the model. Editing topography is easier in GeoHECRAS than Ras Mapper. **What do you dislike about GeoHECRAS?** GeoHECRAS is usually a little behind HEC-RAS releases in the supported version. This is understandable and usually not an issue for me. **What problems is GeoHECRAS solving and how is that benefiting you?** I use GeoHECRAS to create HEC-RAS models faster and easier than using just HEC-RAS. Creating the models faster improves job profitability and helps meet client timelines. We ran a floodplain model with HECRAS and GeoHECRAS and the resulting extends were not the same. Having looking at the polygons it appeared that HECRAS gives better results. Its interface allows the user to pull multiple sources of data into to one program allowing a complete picture to be put together in short amount of time. I would recommend it to any company or individual that has to do floodplain modeling on a consistent basis or wants to expand past simple HEC RAS analysis and add detail and complexing to their project from multiple data sources. P.S. the customer service is second to none. **What do you dislike about GeoHECRAS?** My biggest complaint about Civil GEO is it is not fully geared for small site design (less than 100 acres). It seems to be a program leaning towards large scale modeling and can not fit all of the high level accuracy I would need for small site design like designing an intricate storm network. A suggestion would be to add the ability to bring pipe networks from civil 3d into Civil GEO. This is chiefly done by making data entry more intuitive with the "Assign Entities" tool series. Basically, the workflow is you build a georeferenced model (DEM, cross-sections, structures, etc.), take a picture of it (distances, slopes, etc. are calculated automatically), and feed that into HEC-RAS. **What do you dislike about GeoHECRAS?** The HEC-RAS engine runs more slowly on GeoHECRAS. This isn't a problem with relatively simple 1D models. For more complex, unsteady flow models, run times can increase dramatically compared to standard HEC-RAS. To start, they have round-the-clock support for designers using the software. This is guaranteed in the deal. Tasks like georeferencing, adding cross sections, and adjusting geometry becomes easier with the click of a button. **What do you dislike about GeoHECRAS?** The only problem I've had with GeoHECRAS is the processing power it takes to load a model. Some of our projects are so large that the takes almost 10 minutes to display and allow the designer to work in the file. This is not a huge issue, but it is notable when I want to simply make a quick change. **What problems is GeoHECRAS solving and how is that benefiting you?** GeoHECRAS solves the issue of improting geometry to a river model. As many civil water resources engineers understand, the only other option for river modeling is the standard HEC-RAS software developed by the Army Corps of Engineers. HEC-RAS standard doesn't have support, and the user interface is confusing and takes a long time to learn.
