"Genemod serves the needs of academic bioscience laboratories"
5/5
What do you like best about Genemod?

My favorite aspect of Genemod is the dynamic inventory storage system which enables you to walk through freezers and boxes digitally. Searching for compounds is easy from a single unified search bar that can look through every freezer and every box in the system and once you have found your item a single click can pull you right into its corresponding box. Item grouping in searches is also extraordinarily helpful in quickly understand what various forms of the same compounds you have in your freezers. This inventory management system in combination with an always useful project/procedures management feature and a DNA workspace makes Genemod the most well-rounded choice for serving the needs of academics in bioscience. What do you dislike about Genemod?

Some features are currently still under development such as the sequence workspace. Other small things can be a nuisance for instance exporting freezers out of Genemod into csv files replaces box names with box IDs used internally in the system requiring manual intervention to change them back to relevant box names/numbers. Quickly surveying boxes for information can also be difficult since at this time the only information that is displayed in each box cell are compound names and therefore concentration, mass, and other pertinent information cannot be seen without clicking on individual items or appending that information to the compound name. "Genemod is a great online tool for lab organization."
5/5
What do you like best about Genemod?

Genemod helps keep our lab freezer organized without the onerous task of digging through precious, temperature-sensitive samples by hand. The visual setup allows new members of the laboratory to find things in the freezer with little experience.

Genemod has an excellent support team that promptly answers and solves any questions and issues you may have. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Genemod?

There appear to be some software glitches that still need to be worked through. I would like to see a more streamlined inventory system that automatically changes the numbers as I drag through, similar to Excel. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Very intuitive and easy to use."
4.5/5
What do you like best about Genemod?

Genemod is very simple and efficient way to organize lab supplies. The box images are the best, compared to simply calling items in box one slot C6. Support is rarely needed, however very quick to respond and extremely helpful. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Genemod?

I would love to see the picture display on freezers, much like the box system above. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Software that keeps all your lab management worries at bay"
4.5/5
What do you like best about Genemod?

Genemod provides an integrated solution for management of freezer inventory, project management and much more.

Inventory management tool: This software is extremely time saving as you don't have to go through several excel sheets (often several versions of each) by past and present members of the research group. It helps you to keep all your reagents (antibodies, plasmids, cell freezes) organized in the freezers and find/share their exact location thereby reducing the risk of reagent wastage due to unnecessary thawing which usually occurs when freezers are kept open for longer duration while searching manually.

Project management tool:

Helpful when you have to manage multiple smaller teams working on different projects.

Group meetings become easier when you have all the information such as the available reagents, standardized protocols etc. all available at one place for a quick glance so that the future experiments can be planned. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Genemod?

1) DNA sequence option needs improvement.

2) The inventory tool still depends on users having to make an entry while taking out a reagent. Having a sort of automated way for eg. barcode reader would be helpful.

3) Integrating a calendar in the project management tool (may be along with the goal) might be helpful to monitor the due dates for tasks/goals assigned in the projects. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Lab workflow optimization for better research focus and performance"

What do you like best about Genemod?

While working on my lab research, I was wondering if there was a way for me to parse my catalog and stock in a more efficient way so I could report to my mentor before running out of something important.

GeneMod provided an intelligent and fast way for us to navigate through our reagents and even locating a particular sample inside the biofreezer without opening and even without having us to remember the exact reagent's name, as the system works with a search engine as efficient as Google or Amazon - of course, it depends on you to input the data first.

The DNA sequencing analyzer is outstanding! Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Genemod?

It is clear the GeneMod is growing, so there might be a few things to improve.

A phone app would be great for the overall user experience; by integrating the databank with barcodes or QR codes for a quick stock maintainance.

Maybe the reagent's names could have some sort of cross-reference with Google Search so we could use a more natural language to find what we are looking for.

A better stock control would amazing as well, telling us when something is about to expire or reminding us we don't have to buy a new reagent because you already have it. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Intuitive and easy to use! Time-saver!"

What do you like best about Genemod?

This platform has helped my lab completely reorganize the way we manage our antibodies. It completely streamlined the way we search and record which antibodies we've used and helped us ditch the old school method of Microsoft Excel. Being able to directly search for an antibody on a single platform (instead of multiple spreadsheets) across all the fridges cuts down significantly on the time I need to prepare my experiments, saving me time to focus on more important tasks. The virtual fridge visualization tool is also intuitive and enables our team to quickly see and organize our boxes across our fridges, making it easier for us to track certain antibodies and primers. Being able to see the realtime updates on activity and the activity log of our fridges is a nice feature as well.

When signing up with Genemod, the team was also very friendly and supportive. They helped us migrate all our data onto the platform very quickly and effectively displayed the data to our needs. The platform is also easy to learn so training our other lab members took very little time as well. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Genemod?

The project management tool doesn't seem to directly enable collaboration with our other lab members in terms of editing a single document to review and record data. Would also like to see a notification feature for when antibodies are approaching their expiration date. Currently will be sticking to other cloud solutions for PM, but if Genemod's PM tool gets a buff to improve direct collaboration, we'll be very excited to switch over and have everything on a single platform. "Streamline and simplify your experimental processes"
4.5/5
What do you like best about Genemod?

Genemod’s inventory and data management platform is exemplary as it attempts to address two key areas that often confound even the most talented and organized scientists – 1. maintaining and accessing adequate inventory for carrying out a variety of experiments that form the backbone of any life science lab and 2. appropriately recording, archiving, and retrieving the protocols used for and data generated from such experiments. Cell lines, tissue samples and glycerol stocks should become easily accessible to all lab members as samples can be added and removed and appropriately noted in the freezer inventory function of this platform. Samples of a certain kind that are being stored at different temperatures such as -80°C, -20°C, 4°C and in the liquid nitrogen tank can be located easily without actually having to open any of these. The easy-to-recover inventory details should prove particularly useful during company audits. Moreover, they will allow lab members to ascertain whether sufficient reagent material is available for the planned experiments fairly quickly making time for the more important aspects of the experiment.

In its fully developed form I envision the Genemod toolset being able to assist with everything from planning out experiments, drafting and editing protocols, locating reagents to recording and presenting data. Searching from past experiments and effectively communicating one’s science to colleagues should become easier upon beginning to use this platform. Remotely accessing one’s work should also be possible.

Genemod also has a handy DNA manipulation tool which is very intuitive and user-friendly. One can toggle between two modes – editor and converter – while gathering important information about the DNA stretch of interest such as GC content, designing primers, determining Tm etc. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Genemod?

As the platform tools are still being developed and improved, I would not be quick to spell out any dislikes. There are some changes that could be incorporated. Reminders for expiring reagents and media components could be useful. Also, if there can be a way to quickly barcode and read freezer and liquid nitrogen tank entries that would be useful too. What do you like best about Genemod?

I work with bacteria, so Genemod is great for finding specific strains amongst the hundreds we have in our freezer. It tells me exactly what box, which row/column and who entered in the information. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Genemod?

So far, I have no complaints with the software. I look forward to exploring additional features and integrating it into our lab more. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
