## gedit Reviews
  ### 1. The very basic editor

**Rating:** 2.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Varsha R. | Incident Response Consultant, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 12, 2022

**What do you like best about gedit?**

It's basic and I think that's about it. It comes with a straightforward UI and works well when there is a need to quickly open files for editing from the command line and quick saving.

**What do you dislike about gedit?**

The functionalities could have been better. Command line tools require better access to UI especially for GUI based Linux OSes like Ubuntu. This would have been better if there was a shortcut or application as well that could be ported to other platforms and synced with terminals.

**What problems is gedit solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It allows easy integration with command line and terminal actions in Linux based systems and provides a GUI for editing, something that vim doesn't do. It increases efficiency and comfort.

  ### 2. A Default Experience

**Rating:** 1.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Electrical/Electronic Manufacturing | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 20, 2016

**What do you like best about gedit?**

There are a few positive things I can say about gedit. It's available as part of GNOME and set as the default text editor, so chances are you will run into using it as some point or another. It is also simple and fairly easy to use. gedit also supports syntax highlighting and customizable indentation.

**What do you dislike about gedit?**

I found gedit to be far too simple and have strange default options. I can't exactly explain why, but it also doesn't look very polished, possibly due to the default font/background color options.

**Recommendations to others considering gedit:**

I do not know many people who prefer to use gedit. There are many options for text editors that are better than gedit. For raw performance, consider using Vim or Emacs. For a more rich experience, consider Sublime Text or Atom. gedit is kind of stuck in the middle, and while it makes sense for a default GNOME application, it probably isn't what you really want to use as your main text editor.

**What problems is gedit solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use gedit when my other preferred text editors are not available. It serves its purpose fairly well if all you want to do is simple text editing.
