  ### 1. Great Salesforce Change Detection, but Slow and Fetches Unneeded Metadata

**What do you like best about Gearset DevOps?**

I like how well it connects to Salesforce orgs and how it can directly detect the changes that were made, so I can retrieve them easily.

**What do you dislike about Gearset DevOps?**

It’s very slow. I also don’t like how it fetches files on its own that aren’t needed. For example, if I want to send a field from an object in Salesforce, I don’t want or need it to pull and send the object metadata as well—just the field.

**What problems is Gearset DevOps solving and how is that benefiting you?**

So far all it does is makes it easier to detect which files have been edited, by who and when so it makes it easier to know what file to add to the PR, although the cherrypicking could be better

  ### 2. Buggy CI/CD and Separate App Workflow Hold Back an Otherwise Feature-Rich Tool

**What do you like best about Gearset DevOps?**

The simple deployment process is good, with lots of useful features for admins. Other SF DevOps companies do not have this variety of features.
The customer support is very good.

**What do you dislike about Gearset DevOps?**

1. we need to work in seperate app then sf
2. After long POC and discussions with the tech team, the ci cd is does not fit our needs. 
3. the ci cd processhas many bugs and does not have back promote option.
4. The deployment process does not have auto-merge and stops on conflicts in the comperison and we need to resolve and select the changes.
5. Gearset does not have an external api. We cannot integrate Gearset with external tools like a custom pipeline.

**What problems is Gearset DevOps solving and how is that benefiting you?**

easy to use, and fit our deployment needs. less fits the dev needs.

I'd like to address your points, as I think there are some areas where Gearset may not have been fully explored during your POC.

**Working outside of Salesforce:** This is intentional - being a standalone app built on AWS means we can ship improvements multiple times a day and build a user experience specifically for DevOps, without downtime or manual upgrades (something that wouldn't be possible if we were native to the platform).

**CI/CD and back promotion:** Gearset Pipelines supports back propagation through automatic back propagation PRs and Sync PRs. This becomes available once a change (release, feature, or hotfix) is shipped to your base branch. Teams are able to keep dev sandboxes up to date with Developer Sandbox Updates, which automatically cache uncommitted work in progress and synchronise changes from your base branch. Teams can also use Continuous Delivery Rules to automate these operations once your defined criteria are met. If you hit specific bugs, please reach out to support and engineering so we can investigate (we aren’t currently aware of any). 

**Merge conflicts:** You’re able to resolve conflicts with precision in the Gearset UI. We use semantic merge technology to apply Salesforce XML specific understanding to your pipeline. This allows us to drastically reduce the amount of conflicts you’d see in large XML files and stops them being detected in the first place. 

It's worth noting that Gearset intentionally doesn't auto-merge A over B like some platforms, as this can often lead to unintended consequences and doesn’t align with development best practice.

**External API and integrations:** Gearset integrates with all major Version Control and Application LifeCycle Management solutions, and many major testing solutions. Additionally, Gearset inherits any automations, check suites, scripts, you build out as part of your version control or other workflows, so can be extended to integrate with anything you can integrate into your VCS. For example you may require a custom code scan as a status check in GitHub, or trigger a certain GitHub Action workflow as part of a review process. These are all supported. 

Gearset's outgoing webhooks and automation API in Continuous Delivery Jobs also let you trigger workflows and provide further integration between different processes and systems.

  ### 3. Easy Compare and Deploy, but Room to Grow

**What do you like best about Gearset DevOps?**

What I like best about Gearset DevOps is its powerful Compare and Deploy capability. It makes it very easy to compare Salesforce environments side-by-side and clearly see the differences between metadata in each org.

**What do you dislike about Gearset DevOps?**

When there are many metadata components, the Compare and Deploy process may take longer to load and analyze differences, which can slow down the workflow

**What problems is Gearset DevOps solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Using the Compare and Deploy feature, I can quickly identify differences between environments and deploy only the required components. This reduces the risk of missing dependencies or overwriting changes

UI is good and better than as compare to competitors to adjust to your need.

Doesnt cover all the use cases yet though looking forward to future enhsncements.

**What do you like best about Gearset DevOps?**

The product itself is incredible and easily sells itself! The pricing is also extremely competitive for the industry and very functional and easy to use (lots of bang for the buck)

**What do you dislike about Gearset DevOps?**

The Sales Team. Extremely rigid, impersonal, and pushy. I've had better experiences at used car lots, no kidding. During the demo, the manager scoffed at my questions and the guy offering the demo didn't do much to sell his own product, and we were getting spammed with emails almost daily pressuring us towards approving the purchase despite us repeatedly telling him that it's going to take weeks with our approval process. This is in addition to zero wiggle room with discounts until you're a massive company (11 gearset users if my memory serves me right). I've almost walked away from the deal several times for the sales experience alone, but the product itself keeps pulling me back. If we could have purchased without a middle man, I'd be all over it. Gearset should take note of this...if the Sales team is pushing potential customers away from the product, something isn't right.

**What problems is Gearset DevOps solving and how is that benefiting you?**

As we continue to scale, having a change process is imperative, and having a past in the DevOps world, Gearset is the clear winner, especially for the price. Additionally backing up critical data is one of the most lacked components of Salesforce implementations, and Gearset handles this very well (OwnBackup is the king of backup, but Gearset does 95% of the functionality at a fraction of the cost).

**What do you like best about Gearset DevOps?**

I like the comparisons, and when it works I like the auto tests selection to avoid running all tests on a deploy.

**What do you dislike about Gearset DevOps?**

There is a lot of jumping back and forth to github. When Unit Tests cannot be found it doesn't have a way to specify the tests to run in place of auto tests selection.

**Recommendations to others considering Gearset DevOps:**

Begin early with Gearset and Salesforce, don't wait because it will make things difficult to swap.

**What problems is Gearset DevOps solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We have a large team and numerous departments and preventing broken code was an issue that is now fixed by CI/CD. We have our non-dev admins on gearset and all changes in source control which is great.
