I really like Gather because it is useful and fun to use. The virtual 'office' environment it provides helps to avoid the frictions of asynchronous communication and gives a lot of 'life' to communication between remote teams. I especially appreciate being able to move between desks and designated areas for specific purposes, something that doesn't feel the same in other text or voice-only channels. Gather makes these rooms look more like 'physical' spaces, which I find particularly useful. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
I think that being very similar to a video game, the roles that can 'create' and edit the map expect to have more cool functions to decorate or use interactive objects, etc.; the technical and communicative aspect is well covered for now, but in this factor that differentiates them, they can still add and improve many things.
