I love how easy it is to make beats, and they have a large variety of drum kits and drum machines. They have some high quality amps and pedals in case you want to plug your guitar in. Theoretically, this software would be great for getting your ideas out and hearing how they sound, but this is very difficult when almost all the notes don't play. GarageBand helps me refine my ideas when writing music before actually recording anything. It's virtual amps are very useful and high-quality as far as I can tell. It is one of the most user-friendly audio editing platforms out there. Simple things, like working audio fades, are easiest in Garageband compared to any other audio editing software that I have used. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com. What do you dislike about GarageBand? I do not like that it has some "glitches" in it that from time to time necessitate me deleting Garageband and reinstalling it. Why that happens and fixes the problem is beyond me, but it what I have found is necessary sometimes when various glitches happen and things like my microphone not being recognized happen, but then that fixes the problem. But it is really frustrating when I am right at a point of needing to record and I have to stop and do this. But, it is also rare enough that it does not make me entirely frustrated with the program. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com. Recommendations to others considering GarageBand: I use Garage Band both for my Voice podcast and for recording music. It lets me put together my bi-weekly podcast with ease, especially with editing in with smooth fades for the intro and outro music. It is a very good and easy-to-use audio editor. It is easy to edit in the way that you can highlight something and simply delete a part of what you are working on. I think the whole process of highlighting, cutting out parts and the basic editing doesn't take huge amounts of time because it seems intuitive. It is the easiest audio editing software I have found to use to easily create fades for putting into and outro music to my podcast. Every other program is much more difficult to use in this regard. The biggest takeaway for me with GarageBand is how it can be used for a task as simple as you want it to be, or as complicated as you need it to be. I honestly don't have any complaints about Garageband. Many of the issues I had with the program initially were due to a lack of knowledge of the software itself. After watching some YouTube videos, and consulting with others, I found that almost anything I wanted to do with audio, there was a way to fix it/manipulate it/etc. within GB's expansive onboard features. For me doing a podcast, Garageband has given me so many tools to grow the show in sound quality with its easy integrability with my other pieces of gear (microphones, mixers, cameras etc). I recently have even started using Garageband to fix the audio from another piece of software I use for the video side of my podcast. For some reason, I was running into issues where the audio would only record in mono, not stereo. I learned that you could import videos into Garageband and, with the click of 1 button, can convert the audio. Adjusting the voice EQ settings takes a bit of time to get right and requires some trial and error, and at first sight it was a bit confusing, but besides that, I have absolutely no complaints. Garage band is simplistic and easy to pick up on. You can mess around for a little while, play with features and get the hang of it very quickly. I appreciate the easy to figure out, but equally in depth plug ins, instruments and effects. What do you dislike about GarageBand? I wish some of the instruments were higher quality. I know that seems silly for a program that is free to the majority of apple users. But i feel like it could truly compete with a lot of higher end programs if it had a greater wealth of plug ins, and instruments. The accessibility is fantastic, but you can certainly tell that they are garage band samples and instruments. Recommendations to others considering GarageBand: I think garageband is a wonderful way to get your feet wet with learning music production. It has an easy to learn user interface, impressive depth of features, and an overall accessibility that is pleasing. Garageband is a fun way for me to begin to explore that and learn some of the basics of writing and music production. I'm grateful for a program that makes it easy to begin to explore those avenues. Garage band also allows you to have tools at your finger tips for customizing audio recordings/blending/stitching and mastering audio. I used to use this programme all the time however I will not be able to use the new version! I used to use my microphone with it .The nearest for my purpose would be audacity however for my purposed there was none that compared wit what I wanted it for! I used to use it to prepare Radio programmes and the media browser was like having a database of my music and it was so easy organising a programme in choosing music for certain situations. Now they have removed the mediabrowser and this will make it extremely difficult for me . I could with the media browser completely fit a music program in an hour because the mediabrowser gave me exact time of each music. The alternative way is too time consuming and i will have to look for alternatives. I cannot believe why they did this .
