While navigating documentation can be a bit cumbersome and lacks some crucial details, and the default WordPress dashboard could use a facelift, these are minor quibbles compared to the overall magic of Freemius. Freemius is super easy to implement and has very low fees compared to alternatives. If you run into problems, the support is very quick and helpful. Freemius is incredibly easy to use and integrate into your application and offers excellent insights into how customers purchase and use your plugin. It is a much easier experience than deploying and setting up WooCommerce Software or Easy Digital Downloads. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com. What do you dislike about Freemius? Freemius pricing model takes between 17-25% on your first $5,000 in sales. This is a sizeable percentage of each sale initially after launching your plugin, while it does drop to 5% following your first $5,000 in sales, much more in line with payment processing type fees, but from that initial $5,000, they take around $1,200. I like the fact that this platform allows you to sell digital products subscriptions under different plans. Automatically separate free and paid versions when you deploy the code. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com. What do you dislike about Freemius? 1. The fact that 7% of fees they charge is on top of Payment gateway fees. So you end up paying a lot more than advertised. 2. Even basic reports are missing. Such as being able to see monthly revenue statistics in a specific period. 3. You are not able to customize emails. Forget about sending custom email campaigns to users. 4. Over branding everywhere. They stick their logos at every step of the journey - in a way this is intrusive. Freemius operates on a percentage model, so you don't pay them until you have revenue. The integration process is very straightforward, and can be integrated easily into any plugin's codebase. There were a few corner-cases I ran into while using the product - a customer was sent an erroneous email, a version number breaking a feature. It would have taken much too long to create a custom WordPress plugin billing system. Freemius made it possible to sell our plugin using their turnkey solution, without a large initial outlay.
