What stands out most to me is that Fortra Data Classification fits into the tools people already use, rather than expecting them to completely change how they work. Being able to classify emails, spreadsheets, presentations and other documents from within the Microsoft environment feels far more practical than relying on a separate process that people may forget to follow. From a marketing and data perspective, I regularly work with customer information, CRM exports, campaign reports and performance dashboards. Having consistent labels attached to that data would make it much clearer what can be shared, who should have access and how sensitive information needs to be handled. I also like the balance between automated classification and giving users some control. Automation can improve consistency, while the central administration and reporting features should make policies easier to manage across a wider organisation. The biggest benefit for me is reducing the reliance on every individual remembering every data-handling rule, without adding unnecessary friction to their day-to-day work. The main drawback for me is that the value seems heavily dependent on how well the system is configured and introduced across the business. Data classification can quickly become frustrating if users are presented with too many labels, unclear options or repeated prompts, so the initial setup and ongoing policy management need to be handled carefully. There also appears to be a learning curve for administrators, particularly when building classification rules, managing permissions and making sure the system works consistently across different applications. For a smaller organisation, that level of setup could feel quite resource-heavy compared with a simpler solution. I would also prefer clearer, more accessible pricing information. What problems is Fortra Data Classification solving and how is that benefiting you? Fortra Data Classification is addressing the problem of sensitive information being handled inconsistently across a business. In my work, data can move between CRM systems, spreadsheets, campaign reports, dashboards and email attachments, so it is not always immediately obvious what is confidential or who should have access to it. Applying clear and consistent classifications would make that information easier to manage and reduce the risk of something sensitive being shared with the wrong person. It also helps take some of the pressure off individual employees, as they are not expected to remember every data-handling rule each time they send or save a file. The main benefit is better control without creating a completely separate process. When classification is built into the software people already use, it should make compliance more practical, improve accountability and give the business a clearer view of how sensitive data is being handled.
