I would like to highlight several aspects of Fonoa:

Fonoa is solving one of the most complex challenges faced by global businesses — managing e-invoicing and tax compliance across multiple countries with constantly changing regulations. Traditionally, this required manual oversight, local expertise, and multiple systems, which increased both cost and risk. Fonoa centralizes these processes into a single, automated platform that ensures every transaction is compliant in real time, regardless of jurisdiction.

**What do you like best about Fonoa?**

Fonoa is very easy to work with and brings a great deal of technical expertise. Support queries are handled promptly as well. 

For a multinational business, having a knowledgeable partner who simplifies the implementation of both country-specific and cross-border tax validations is essential.

**What do you dislike about Fonoa?**

I am not particularly satisfied with the pricing model, as I find it to be on the expensive side. 

The cost for lookups that exceed the agreed contract volume is also quite high. Since this is a new implementation, accurately estimating the required volume can be challenging.

**What problems is Fonoa solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The platform offers B2B VAT ID validation for eCommerce, as well as validation for individual tax numbers. This functionality is useful for ensuring the accuracy of tax information in business transactions.

**What do you like best about Fonoa?**

Fonoa provides a strong layer of confidence when it comes to invoicing compliance and reporting obligations across multiple countries. It uses a single API, which is amazing for scaling to multiple countries.  

One of the most valuable aspects is how it handles the connection to local tax authorities. This removes a huge operational and compliance burden from our internal teams. I also really appreciate the transparency it offers. We can easily track what has been reported, the reporting status, and view any potential issues that need attention.

The country-specific integration guides are particularly helpful. They save a lot of time by summarizing the key technical and legal requirements in a clear and accessible way. 
Overall, Fonoa has made it significantly easier to scale operations into new markets without needing to build deep tax expertise in-house for each one.

**What do you dislike about Fonoa?**

The biggest challenge with Fonoa is its pricing model. 
While the product delivers clear value, especially in terms of compliance and automation, the cost can become quite high, particularly for businesses with growing transaction volumes, as pricing is tied to usage. 

This makes it somewhat difficult to forecast costs, and it can become a limiting factor when planning large-scale rollouts or onboarding new countries.

That said, the product is solid overall, and we continue to rely on it for our most important compliance workflows.

**What problems is Fonoa solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Fonoa is helping us solve the complex and constantly evolving challenge of tax compliance across multiple countries. 
Specifically, it automates the generation and reporting of electronic invoices in markets with mandatory real-time reporting to local tax authorities, such as Hungary and Spain. 
This removes the need for manual processes, local integrations, or in-depth in-house expertise for each country's requirements.

The benefit is twofold: operational efficiency and compliance risk reduction. 
We can expand into new countries faster and more confidently, knowing that we’re meeting local invoicing laws. 
It also gives our finance and compliance teams peace of mind, as they have visibility into what has been reported, what failed, and why. This reduces the risk of audit issues or regulatory fines.

Overall, Fonoa enables us to scale compliantly, save internal resources, and operate with greater transparency in regulated markets.

The team is highly responsive and always willing to help. FOnoa brings together strong expertise in both tax and IT, which is evident in their approach. Whenever issues arise, they are resolved promptly.

About the Tax engine: the process of going live with new tax registrations is smooth and efficient.

**What do you dislike about Fonoa?**

Currently I cannot see the rules of my own individual Taxengine for the company.It would be very helpful to have greater visibility in this area, although I understand that this feature is planned for the future.

**What problems is Fonoa solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We currently use the Tax lookup tool, the tax engine, and the e-invoicing feature.

**What do you like best about Fonoa?**

From the initial integration to implementing new services, Fonoa team has been exceptional in providing the service and support to Bolt for expanding to new markets and being compliant in the existing ones. 
Once the API has been integrated, adding new markets to use the service, has been relatively easy. The country guides are clear and if there are corner cases due to the business logic, troubleshooting and support is a collaborative effort from both customer support, engineering and product teams.
Fonoa is agile and in case we would like to expand to a market where they do not have presence yet, they work with. the customer to find a solution together.

**What do you dislike about Fonoa?**

While the products in general work very well, there have been cases where business has been disrupted due to changes in the error messages or API that was not communicated ahead of the change taking place. 
Self service dashboards have improved overtime but could still have few additional features that would make analysing the data easier.

**What problems is Fonoa solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Fonoa is helping us to stay compliant in the evolving Billing and Tax compliance world, by 
* validating the supplier and customer billing details 
* being the certified provider for sending e-invoices on behalf of our customers and doing live reporting to Tax Authorities
* giving us insight to possible upcoming changes that their Tax Consultants have learned about

Fonoa's greatest strength lies in its ability to adapt to the unique business needs and models of its clients. Having collaborated with them on several projects, I have been consistently impressed by the flexibility of their centralized solutions. In various markets, Fonoa's tailored approaches have been essential for meeting compliance requirements that would have otherwise taken us much longer to address. This also reflects in ease of use and initial integration. 

The Fonoa team demonstrates a high level of professionalism and care, not only during the initial stages of collaboration but also in their ongoing support. They regularly conduct check-ins, monitor our business, and work to enhance the partnership. This proactive approach ensures that we receive timely solutions, especially when new compliance requirements arise.

For a while, Fonoa's most apparent area for improvement was its limited ability to adapt to the diverse needs of businesses across various industries—in other words, how legal requirements are applied in practice within different domains. However, over the past year or so, this aspect has improved significantly and has now become one of Fonoa's strongest features. They are now able to take into account a business's model, specific needs, and industry during implementation, which allows them to offer much more flexible solutions.

What I like best about Fonoa is their fantastic customer support. From the start of our onboarding, the team has been incredibly responsive and easy to work with. We’ve had regular check-ins with our account team, and they always make sure we’re supported and moving in the right direction.

They’re also very committed to meeting deadlines and following through on what they promise, which has made the whole process smooth and stress-free. It really feels like they care about their customers and want to make sure everything goes right.

Overall, Fonoa has been great to work with — reliable, communicative, and genuinely invested in our success.

Fonoa doesn’t yet have all the features we need in a sales tax engine, but the team has been very proactive and transparent about their roadmap. **What do you like best about Fonoa?**

The GITC VAT return software is very comprehensive and can handle our complicated VAT set up to include multiple entities within a VAT Group, partial exemption calculations, annual adjustments, reverse charge VAT etc.  
It has a detailed reporting suite that shows us a summary of VAT incurred and charged for the quarter that helps us analyse our income and expenditure. Their customer service is also extremely helpful.

**What do you dislike about Fonoa?**

Some of the menus and dashboard layouts can be a bit confusing for new users, but once you get used to them they're easy to use. I'd also like to be able to reset my password myself via a link on the log in page, rather than having to email the helpdesk and wait for a response.

**What problems is Fonoa solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Since Making Tax Digital (MTD) was introduced around 5-6 years ago we needed software that was linked to our Finance System and could handle multiple complex data sets, in order to produce a 9 box VAT return and submit to HMRC. Fonoa's GITC software does all this for us.

**What do you like best about Fonoa?**

From start to finish, integrating with Fonoa was significantly less painful than with other providers. We received a ton of support from start to finish and the documentation was well structured and easy to follow. The Fonoa team constantly checked in to see how we were doing and to make sure that no issues arose. Since integrating, we have been very happy with both the performance of Fonoa and the support.

**What do you dislike about Fonoa?**

My only complaint would be some minor bugs we faced with validations and the UI. These were resolved rather quickly however, but at the time it was a little frustrating.

**What problems is Fonoa solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Fonoa is helping us e-invoice at scale. We do not need to concern ourselves with the deeper reporting implications of expanding operations to new countries, as we simply have to extend the same code we wrote for any other country Fonoa supports. This saves us an immense amount of time, since ~90% of the work is easily transferrable, while the other 10% can vary between countries.

There’s nothing I particularly dislike about Fonoa at the moment. Like with any software, minor hiccups do occur occasionally, but they’re typically addressed and resolved promptly by the support team, which makes a big difference.

We’ve been using Fonoa’s suite of tax automation services — including the Tax Engine, TIN Validation, Booking Report Transaction, and Fetch Invoice services — and our experience so far has been very positive.

Very easy to use and implement their developer friendly services.
Exception customer support and timey response.

The documentation helps in quick and easy integration f their services.

All good so far. There have been some outages but the TAT was pretty quick with agreed SLOs.

**What problems is Fonoa solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Fonoa is helping us solve two critical tax compliance challenges: accurate tax ID (TIN) validation and real-time tax calculation across multiple jurisdictions.

With TIN validation, we’re able to verify taxpayer identities across numerous countries using official databases. This ensures we collect valid tax IDs during onboarding or invoicing, reducing the risk of VAT exposure, non-compliance, and audit penalties. It also supports DAC7 and similar regulatory frameworks, enabling us to operate confidently in regulated markets.

The Tax Engine provides real-time, automated tax calculations for VAT, GST, and sales tax. It factors in location, thresholds, exemptions, and business-specific rules, helping us apply the correct tax treatment on every transaction. This has eliminated the need for manual tax logic and reduced the risk of incorrect tax rates being charged or missed.

Together, these services have improved our tax accuracy, reduced compliance risk, and accelerated our ability to scale into new markets—while saving time and effort for our internal teams.

**What do you like best about Fonoa?**

I think many businesses will come to realise that Fonoa has several great propositions that can help meet the requirements legislated for both now in the coming months and years.  We use their solution for e-invoicing and TIN Validation.

E-Invoicing Thoughts:
The API solution is a great way of ensuring that you can have a consistent data set across multiple countries to be compliant with e-invoicing that is consistent across each country - something that I know competitors were slow to catch up to from previous experience.  The documentation that Fonoa has available over and above their online API is also helpful and should you have any issues their support team is on hand to help.

If you want to make use of the API endpoints, it will either require some technical experience or involvement with the IT team.  However, once it is implemented and up and running it is easy to use and capable of being used seamlessly. 

TIN Lookup
With the arrival of DAC7 and a requirement to undertake due diligence on all customers, Fonoa's API driven solution to TIN lookup across a multi-jurisdiction single platform is pretty unique and makes our customer onboarding solution much easier to handle.

Fonoa has a strong capable team and its support model is only getting stronger.  I would strongly recommend them.

**What do you dislike about Fonoa?**

I sometimes think they can be too quick out of the gate to try and corner the market.  The DAC7 software to produce a compliant DAC7 file was not polished enough for release in year 1, but they recognised this and sought to improve its capabilities in year 2.

Compliance driven by tax authorities is Fonoa's reason for existence and they are developing solutions that means this process is effortless.

The platform is primarily designed with the prepaid model in mind, so adapting it to more complex postpaid workflows can require workarounds or additional support.

Additionally, although the documentation is generally well-structured and helpful, it sometimes lacks deeper detail in more advanced or country-specific scenarios, which can slow down implementation.

Another limitation is that Fonoa does not yet offer full coverage for all countries. While many key markets are supported, some jurisdictions are still pending implementation. This appears to be due to a roadmap that prioritizes features based on the needs of major clients, a perfectly understandable approach, but one that may affect companies operating in less common or emerging markets. That said, the impression I’ve gotten is that Fonoa is genuinely committed to achieving global coverage, and their team is actively working toward that goal.

As a global company operating across many jurisdictions, our primary challenge has been maintaining compliance with constantly evolving local e-invoicing regulations. Invoicing and regulatory compliance are not our core competencies, so we needed a reliable partner to help bridge that gap and ensure our systems meet each country’s legal requirements.
Fonoa is helping us solve exactly that. Their solution acts as a central integration layer between our invoicing systems and the various government platforms, allowing us to offload the complexity of managing country-specific compliance rules. What really sets Fonoa apart is their incredible global coverage and how fast they’re scaling their offering : from tax ID validation to tax determination, e-invoicing and e-reporting... For us, using their tax ID validation tool has brought peace of mind around VAT compliance in jurisdictions where rules are particularly strict for non-resident digital service providers.

It's not so much a dislike, but a wish to see further expansion in the future. Specifically, it would be great to have tax ID validation for Canadian provinces and for Fonoa to implement Philippines tax ID validation as soon as possible to comply with the new non-resident VAT mandate there. We believe these enhancements would make Fonoa an even more complete solution for global compliance.

The best thing about Fonoa is certainly the concept of integration, especially when portfolio consists of dozens of companies in different countries (globally!), with different requirements and e-invoicing specifics. This is one of the reasons why we chose Fonoa, to avoid investing significant internal resources in both development and maintenance.

Since e-invoicing requirements are accelerating recently, in combination with some specifics of customer portfolio, it might cause some hiccups in the implementation phase. This is something to be considered more carefully in the analysis phase from both Fonoa and customer side, to make implementation even smoother. However, Customer support is responsive and solutions are provided in the acceptable period of time.

What I like the most about Fonoa besides the product itself, it is the support and direct communication Fonoa's team has with our company. 
They work side by side with us, on a daily basis to ensure our tax and billing engine works as it supposed to. Ensuring we stay in compliance.

Even though our company have had issues with the VAT number validation feature, and small issues with the use of zip codes in the determination of US sales tax, Fonoa's team works on resolving this matters quickly and takes action to provide answer as quickly as possible. 
Any system error or limitation, is compensated by the action's the team takes.
