## About Follett Destiny Library Manager
Follett Destiny® Library Manager is an AI-enabled K–12 library management system that simplifies print and digital resource management for schools and districts. Built specifically for the daily work of librarians, teacher-librarians, and district library teams, it helps users manage circulation, cataloging, inventory, collections, and student access from one connected platform. Destiny Library Manager combines proven library workflows with AI-enabled support, helping schools operate more efficiently while strengthening literacy, discovery, and visibility across resources. The platform is designed for district librarians, school librarians, curriculum and instruction teams, and educators responsible for managing library materials and supporting reading engagement. Its intuitive workflows make it useful for both full library teams and individual staff members managing library responsibilities in smaller schools. Because AI-enabled capabilities are built directly into the system, users can automate reporting, surface insights faster, and spend less time on manual tasks, while still relying on the platform’s strong native reporting tools for day-to-day operations. Key features include circulation management, inventory tracking, cataloging, reporting dashboards, and tools that help students and teachers discover resources anytime, anywhere. Destiny Library Manager helps schools check materials in and out quickly, track what resources they own, see what needs replacing or updating, and monitor circulation, collection health, and reading activity. Its AI-enabled Library AI Assistant adds another layer of value by helping teams surface collection gaps, identify high-demand titles, automate worklists, and generate leadership-ready reports without manual exports. Just as important, Destiny Library Manager supports stronger accountability and planning. Effective tracking is not just about keeping a list of books and materials. It is about creating reliable records that help schools answer questions quickly, plan for replacement with more confidence, and make smarter resource decisions over time. Clearer inventory records, usage trends, and standardized workflows reduce uncertainty and give library teams better information for budgeting, collection development, and long-term planning. It also supports schools that need dependable data for audits, multi-site consistency, and equitable access, giving leaders a clearer view of what students can use, what is underused, and where collection investments should go next across the district. Overall, Destiny Library Manager stands out as an AI-enabled library management system that helps K–12 schools manage resources with greater efficiency, clarity, and confidence. By combining circulation, reporting, discovery, and AI-enabled decision support in one platform, it helps librarians save time, strengthen collections, support student reading, and keep library operations aligned with broader school and district goals.

## Follett Destiny Library Manager Reviews
 ### 1. Useful Features Marred by Connectivity Issues

**Rating:** 1.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Gidget M. | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 14, 2026

**What do you like best about Follett Destiny Library Manager?**

I really like the ability to see students in a classrooms with their images for checkout. Being able to look at an image of a student and know that's who I have in front of me makes the checkout process more personalized when I have hundreds of students in my school.

**What do you dislike about Follett Destiny Library Manager?**

Online hosted service is trash. The fact that we cannot go backwards and host our own data is frustrating. The updates that they have done recently, while interesting and innovative, have caused the program to quit, and I have had more unhappy faces on my screen because of the connections not working in a timely manner. I don't know, but then I have to quit out of the program and restart, or I see a blank screen. I'm really not happy with the current Follett Destiny Library Manager.

**What problems is Follett Destiny Library Manager solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use Follett Destiny Library Manager to manage book holds, checkouts, popular titles, and student history. It provides insights on circulation trends and helps locate library materials efficiently when it works.

 ### 2. Easy to Navigate, but Customer Service and Multi-Site Support Fall Short

**Rating:** 2.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Sara S. | Cataloger & Archivist, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 14, 2026

**What do you like best about Follett Destiny Library Manager?**

It is relatively easy to navigate and you can usually find what you are looking for if you don't already know where it is. Records are easy to read.

**What do you dislike about Follett Destiny Library Manager?**

Customer service is horrible. They assume you do not know anything about the product even when you tell them your level of understanding. Library Manager is very obviously not built for a school district with multiple sites and suggestions to help with this have not been integrated. The site logs me out every day around 4:10pm, even when I am actively working within it.

**What problems is Follett Destiny Library Manager solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We need a catalog so it at least does that for us.

 ### 3. Good management system for libraries and schools, but complicated

**Rating:** 2.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Libraries | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 14, 2026

**What do you like best about Follett Destiny Library Manager?**

We appreciate having separate library and resource platforms.

**What do you dislike about Follett Destiny Library Manager?**

It's hard to figure out which report to run that will meet my needs.

**What problems is Follett Destiny Library Manager solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I am not sure.

 ### 4. Meh

**Rating:** 2.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Jasmine T. | Librarian, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 23, 2025

**What do you like best about Follett Destiny Library Manager?**

The existing catalog is robust and it does its job. We use it daily and it has only been down once while I've been a librarian. It was easy to learn how to use and train new users.

**What do you dislike about Follett Destiny Library Manager?**

The support for it is abysmal. We have reached out about issues but because we are not in a US time zone, the support does not address issues in a timely manner and has not allowed us real time assistance.
The format is very old fashioned as well. The features are not fully activated or can't be used. this is perhaps due to the support not helping us fully integrate the features.

**What problems is Follett Destiny Library Manager solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It helps us keep our collection accounted for and track borrowing information for our students, faculty, and families.

**Official Response from Annie Doherty:**

> We're glad to hear that you find our catalog robust and reliable for your daily use. We apologize for the support issues you've experienced and will work to improve our response time for customers in different time zones. I am here to help as well and would love to learn more. Please reach out to me directly at adoherty@follettsoftware.com. I will share this with our team as well.

 ### 5. Improvements Needed

**Rating:** 2.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Libraries | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 21, 2025

**What do you like best about Follett Destiny Library Manager?**

I like that I'm able to import catalog records.

**What do you dislike about Follett Destiny Library Manager?**

Although the product receives regular updates, it feels really outdated. Reports are difficult to find, create and use. It's not intuitive, so training is required for any library staff. I regularly have to search or ask other librarians for help to use the product, or call customer support to figure out how to access the information I need, and sometimes I can't. There have been several instances where it's just not possible to get what I need. It's also really frustrating that back office STILL doesn't sync with Destiny Discover in a useful way (ex: Resource Lists vs. Collections).

**What problems is Follett Destiny Library Manager solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It provides a way to organize my catalog and circulate materials.

**Official Response from Annie Doherty:**

> Thank you for sharing your thoughts with us. We understand your concerns and are committed to improving the user experience. We will address the issues you've mentioned and work towards making the system more intuitive and user-friendly. In the meantime, I would love to connect to ensure our customer service team can help with these issues. You can email me at adoherty@follettosoftware.com.

Thank you!

 ### 6. Good for checking out books

**Rating:** 2.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Libraries | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 21, 2025

**What do you like best about Follett Destiny Library Manager?**

The catalog and search features are easy to use and make finding particular titles simple.

**What do you dislike about Follett Destiny Library Manager?**

I'm not sure it is my level of clearence, but editing the homerooms and adding email addresses to different homerooms is virtually impossible. I also tried to organize patrons into new homerooms based on the class roster and the changes I made were reversed with no warning or notification. Things could definitely be designed for better ease of use.

**What problems is Follett Destiny Library Manager solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The Library Manager solves the issue of maintaining our catalog of books, doing inventory, and keeping track of which classes have what books.

**Official Response from Annie Doherty:**

> We're glad to hear that you find our catalog and search features easy to use. We apologize for the difficulties you've experienced with editing homerooms and adding email addresses. I am here to connect you with our support team who can help. You can reach me at adoherty@follettsoftware.com or contact our tech suppor team at: 800.323.3397, option 2 or techsupport@follettsoftware.com

 ### 7. Old fashioned

**Rating:** 1.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Libraries | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 21, 2024

**What do you like best about Follett Destiny Library Manager?**

We have traditionally used it, so staff are comfortable with the system and our entire collection is on there

**What do you dislike about Follett Destiny Library Manager?**

It needs a massive overhaul - most librarians I know are moving to accessit for the updates. After Follett have cut the international team from 20+ to 4 people, the customer service has been awful and we are also no longer using Follett for importing books. The leadership at this company have made such massive errors!

**What problems is Follett Destiny Library Manager solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Normal library functions

**Official Response from Annie Doherty:**

> We apologize for the inconvenience and are working to enhance our system and support. Your input is valuable as we strive to better serve our customers. We will make sure to pass this along to our Destiny team.

 ### 8. It's ok

**Rating:** 2.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Primary/Secondary Education | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 15, 2024

**What do you like best about Follett Destiny Library Manager?**

We've been using it for a while and our users seem to know how to use it pretty well at this point.

**What do you dislike about Follett Destiny Library Manager?**

It's too rigid. We don't have the same level of granular control over things like data fields, reports, automation opportunities, etc...

**What problems is Follett Destiny Library Manager solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Tracking library books and technology inventory. This allows our libraries to function and allows us to keep track of our 1-1 devices as we check them out and in to our students.

**Official Response from Nerita Howard:**

> We're pleased to hear that Follett Destiny Suite has been beneficial for tracking library books and technology inventory. We value your feedback about the need for more granular control, and we'll take that into consideration for future updates. For additional report and automation support, contact techsupport@follettlearning.com.

 ### 9. UI needs work

**Rating:** 2.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Education Management | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 24, 2018

**What do you like best about Follett Destiny Library Manager?**

Follett has many useful features. The ability to scan barcodes for the student IDs is nice.

**What do you dislike about Follett Destiny Library Manager?**

The management UI needs work. The screens are not intuitive. I usually had to search the web for answers as the software documentation was often very out of date.

**What problems is Follett Destiny Library Manager solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Asset Management

**Official Response from Annie Doherty:**

> We appreciate your feedback on the management UI and understand the importance of intuitive design. We are constantly working to improve the user experience and will take your comments into consideration for future updates.

 ### 10. In need of a major overhaul. Not suited for younger patrons.

**Rating:** 2.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Heather L. | Teacher Librarian, Libraries, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 19, 2015

**What do you like best about Follett Destiny Library Manager?**

A new feature of Destiny Library Manager is the Universal Search option. This feature allows a user to search books, eBooks and subscription databases. If you purchase books from Follett Titlewave, MARC records can be easily added to your collection with a few simple clicks. The help forum is also very beneficial and covers a wealth of information and topics.

Destiny Library Manager allows you to have tiered user access privileges. This is beneficial if you have an IT director, multiple librarians, library support staff, and volunteers. The multiple account levels allow for everyone to have access to the administrative side of Destiny, with limited access to features that would cause error on the system.

**What do you dislike about Follett Destiny Library Manager?**

The interface for Destiny Library Manager is beyond outdated. In a K-12 environment where students are always choosing something by its visual appearance, Destiny falls way behind. For our elementary students, Destiny is awful at forgiving spelling errors. If it is relatively close to the correct spelling, a very small dialogue box appears saying "did you mean...", but it is so small that it is often overlooked by students. I also greatly dislike the way Destiny marks the availability of books. Unlike Destiny Quest (its parallel interface for younger users), Destiny shows availability in terms of 0 of 1 available. While this isn't an issue for our upper elementary students, our younger students had difficulty understanding this. I much prefer Destiny Quests feature of "in" or "out". The icons for Category View look like they are from Word 95 clip art.

Although Destiny markets the ability to copy catalog, unfortunately many of the records are grossly inaccurate. While I understand that Follett is not responsible for creating those records, I would appreciate some policing of the records (perhaps the ability for other users to 'flag' incorrect records for review).

The Destiny app is great for library admin, but I would like to see a better app for patrons.

Finally, I have dealt with customer service numerous times. Unfortunately, this is a day long process because I am continually passed from customer service representative to customer service representative.

**Recommendations to others considering Follett Destiny Library Manager:**

Although Destiny Library Manager is the largest K-12 library management software, I would strongly encourage to look at smaller competitors. Sometimes, bigger isn't better. If you're looking for a modern user experience, and a kid-friendly interface, I would look elsewhere.

**What problems is Follett Destiny Library Manager solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We use Destiny Library Manager for our 4 libraries which serve approximately 4,000 patrons. We needed the ability to quickly catalog library resources including books, AV, equipment, and electronic resources. Destiny Library Manager is one of the largest library management systems for K-12 schools, which makes it easy for students to transfer from one school to the other without having to relearn a new system. Further, Destiny Library Manager has a lot of administrative features including tiered privileges.

**Official Response from Annie Doherty:**

> Thank you for sharing your detailed feedback on Follett Destiny Suite. We appreciate your insights on the features you find beneficial and the areas where improvements are needed. Your comments about the outdated interface, spelling error forgiveness, and availability display are valuable for us to consider for future enhancements. We understand the importance of a user-friendly experience, especially for younger patrons.

We apologize for any inconvenience you experienced with our customer service. We are committed to improving our support process to ensure a more efficient and satisfactory experience for our users.

We will take your recommendations into account for future updates and strive to provide a more modern and user-friendly interface. If you have any further feedback or need assistance, please feel free to reach out. Thank you for choosing Follett Destiny Suite for your library management needs.
