
What is particularly unique about FME Platform is that it can work flexibly in the environment of multi-source data integration and is not based on a specific architecture. This feature is especially useful when it comes to implementing an on-premise ETL process that involves a wide variety of systems, each producing information in their own unique way. FME Platform's intuitive drag-and-drop method makes it extremely convenient to develop sophisticated workflows while at the same time providing a high degree of control over the transformation process.
Another important feature that I consider to be very helpful is the possibility of working with data virtually and automatically, as well as FME Platform's very active community. It means that FME can perform such tasks as orchestration of workflows and creation of reusable pipelines, thus helping with improving efficiency. Furthermore, thanks to the large community, finding a solution for a problem becomes significantly easier because it may have already been solved by someone else. One thing that I do not like about FME Platform is how resource-intensive and complicated it can get if the workflow gets too big. Although the graphical interface is very useful, some workflows will quickly become very hard to maintain once they grow larger and more connected. They might also experience performance issues, especially for very intensive transformations or large amounts of data, especially in an on-premise deployment.
The second problem lies in the time, costs, and knowledge required. Even though it uses a low-code system at first glance, mastering its full potential still requires deep knowledge in data structure and transformation processes, making it harder to learn.
