I sought out a product that would be like a digital flip through book as I had once seen a graphic designer use online for their portfolio. I found Flipsnack and was able to create exactly as I had envisioned. A digital photo album to create for a family I'm friends with. I wanted to create something a little more special than just sending the photos over, as I was also making a watercolor portrait of their kids to go along with it. They loved it all! :D So fun! Because I was a beginner to the software I created a problem I didn't even know I created and found myself stuck. I had created a template with what I thought was my finished product I had worked on for 2 hours. I couldn't figure out how to share my finished piece and thought I just lost 2 hours making it and might even have to start over. Initially the advice from the customer support team explained to me what had happened but I wasn't able to fix the issue. So we kept at it and eventually got it fixed perfectly, the staff opened a new Flipbook and got my template onto there so I could access the sharing capability. Flipbooks combine the ease of navigation of a book (just flip the pages, and everything stays above the fold so there's no need for endless scrolling) with the engagement and interactivity of digital media. While there are many different flipbook making platforms, Flipsnack is the one for me.

I love the ease of navigation, the customization options, and how easy it is to embed the flipbooks into a learning management system or website. I use Flipsnack every time I teach a live class, to share the class presentation notes right inside the course learning window.

A caution for anyone creating flipbooks is that it's not optimal to treat them as if they were physical books or glorified PDFs. My advice is to treat each page of a flipbook like a PowerPoint or Canva slide (that's how mine literally start out anyway) and design for simplicity, clarity, and powerful visual messaging.

If you need to share a lot of detailed text, you can include a link to a downloadable or online PDF inside your flipbook so people can read the larger amounts of text in a more user-friendly way.

I use Flipsnack to make digital workbooks, and those are not fillable. So what I do is treat the flipbook as a coffee table quality workbook of the kind you look through but don't mark up, and then include a link to a downloadable fillable PDF INSIDE the flipbook, for learners to download and fill in.
