What do you like best?

There are a number of things I love about FlipGrid, but perhaps the most salient is how easy it is to adapt to the individual instructor's needs. It can integrate into canvas, work for adult learners as well as the k-12 audience, and features a myriad of ways to assess and interact. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike?

I do not like that the platform looks geared to the k-12 audience. It would be nice to have a couple different default layout looks so that higher ed institutions can take advantage of all the amazing features without it looking like a game. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Recommendations to others considering the product:

Flipgrid is definitely worth using in higher education and medical education. It is highly customizable and students tend to engage with the content far more than they do to basic LMS video discussion boards. It works on both the mobile app and on a computer, so students do not need any special equipment. I would also highly recommend that you take advantage of the highlight feature to create summary/review videos, especially if you have a large class and it is unlikely that students will be able to watch all of the videos. Finally it is worth noting that the Canvas integration is not as of yet fully functional and does cause issues when connecting to the mobile app and when you co-teach with an instructor who also has their own grid. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

We've used Flipgrid most recently to improve online learning by hosting course introductions with its video feedback. We have also used it for case studies where one student presents the case study and others reply with diagnoses and further questions. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best?

Flipgrid focuses on doing one thing well, and that is providing a platform for every student to speak and be heard. In an ed tech industry that often likes to focus on high levels of personalization or self-paced learning, flipgrind provides an excellent opportunity for learning in community. All students - regardless of whether they are introverted, require greater processing time, and even those who don't get a voice in our public square - have an opportunity to speak their mind and demonstrate their learning.

The variety of options for adding media and files to my initial post really sets flipgrid apart from some other total response tools as well - obviously i don't always need this level of customizability for student response, but I appreciate the variety of options i have to really ensure students understand what i'm asking of them. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike?

I don't have much to dislike, although i would prefer other options for joining than a join code, perhaps through single-sign-on in a learning management system. At times it can be inconvenient to share codes, although my younger students have become much more comfortable with this set up due to the proliferation of ed tech across their courses. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Recommendations to others considering the product:

This is really going to work best where students have reliable access to technology for recording, so i really only recommend where your school is 1-to-1. As with any other ed tech platform, faculty also need extensive training to not only understand how to use the tool, but how to use it pedagogically effective ways. Even a tool like Flipgrid can be used poorly if the tech drives pedagogy rather than the other way around. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Flipgrid lets all of my students speak - time constraints in the physical classroom space typically don't allow this, and it enables me to meet an issue that touches both equity and student learning. I'm able to empower students and collect awesome data on their learning.

Importantly, my students are noticing this - my course evaluations regularly reflect that students are feeling heard, and feel like tools such as flipgrid are giving them 'voice' in the classroom that they don't experience in some other classes. This is one of my favorite ed-tech takeaways in my 13 year career teaching both K-12 and at the college level. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best?

FlipGrid is easy to use for students and teachers. I started using this last year with my fifth graders. They loved recording, but even more than that they loved watching their peers’ posts. This gave me a clever way to have them review content. When the pandemic struck and schools were closed, I was able to use FlipGrid to continue communicating with my students. They enjoyed our daily posts and this gave them something to stay in contact with each other. Many preferred this option rather than another video conferencing platform. Did I mention it’s easy to use? No training needed....log in and get started. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike?

Sometimes getting the posts to correlate with Google Classroom is tedious, but with a little more effort and minor re-tweaking it can be done. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Formative assessments are easier! Virtual communication is fun and highly engaging. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best?

I love the fact that with flipgrid, I can allow my students to give me a verbal responses instead of having to type everything Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike?

I have some students who don't like having their image seen as they record. There are also some that were disappointed with the time limit for their videos. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Recommendations to others considering the product:

It's a great resource if you want quick responses. It does limit the maximum amount of time of a response to 90 seconds, so if you want something longer, you might want to look at a different product. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

It lets me see my students and it also lets them provide answers and reflections without having to type everything. Some of my students are much better at verbal expression than written expression and this allows them an avenue to demonstrate their knowledge as well. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best?

I love the ability for students to record videos in short segments, provide feedback or comment on classmates, and the ability to use stickers and filters to help those who are less confident to hide behind a sticker but still have their voices reached out to the class. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike?

I dislike that commenting on other videos is a default setting, which can become a distraction when leading a virtual discussion. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Recommendations to others considering the product:

Make sure you utilize the settings properly in case you do not want students commenting on other videos to begin an assignment with. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best?

I like that my students can still speak with each other even while maintaining distance. The students can reply to each other, offer feedback, and good peer reviews. It easily records for students with the push of a button. In this time of distance learning leveraging FlipGrid is a great investment in the engagement of your students. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike?

Sometimes, it is a little problematic for some students. A student in a class may have a problem with being able to record videos or upload. However, usually with a sign back into the account the problem can be solved. It is a very good tool to add to a teacher's online engagement toolkit. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

If you are looking for a simple Video tool. this is it. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Conversing with students is easier. It is not instant, but it allows the students to try and retry if they are not happy with their recording. That extra practice can be very convenient, especially as I have a blended learning environment. In our virtual world, it is is huge! They are adding features like allowing written text not just video, stickers and . Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best?

It's easy for students to submit their responses to questions posed by their teacher. There are so many good tutorials available to help teachers get up to speed to be able to use it effectively sooner. I do not know how long the novelty will hold students' attention, but it is a bright, fun, and engaging way for students to be connected during distance learning. I believe most teachers around the country should get familiar with this product with the ease it provides for both students and teachers when it comes to interaction and assessment. Being able to add a "copilot" is another great feature that is great if you have a co-teacher, or even if you are just new to the program and would prefer to have an additional adult with access to help guide you through the process. This product has really helped in my district since, as a Math teacher, my department has been very concerned about how to best assess students during distance learning. By asking students a standard, traditional Math question, it is incredibly easy for them to cheat using an app or website to solve the problem for them. By switching to project-based learning (which is a great method on its own), although students could still cheat to do portions, they will still be "presenting" their results to the class and teacher. This would require students to at least have some understanding of the content and their project. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike?

As a Math teacher, this isn't the fastest or easiest way for me to assess my students from a traditional style of assessment. Specifically, if I want to make up twenty questions for my students to answer, this would not be an effective or efficient way to check each student's answers. However, it makes up for that by being an amazing way to grade project-based learning assessments (just like if students were standing at the front of a classroom in person to present their results or project to their peers and teacher). Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Recommendations to others considering the product:

Definitely seek out the advice of anybody with experience. If that does not exist, utilize Flipgrid's tutorials for assistance. If you still need help, search online for additional tutorials. It's really not difficult to set up and start using, but having somebody with experience in your exact position (2nd grade, middle school, Biology, etc) can help with coming up with good project/assessment ideas. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Assessment is a very difficult thing for high school Math teachers when it comes to distance learning. There are so many options for students to cheat, and that is on top of every method that existed before the internet. Flipgrid is allowing teachers in my department to focus more on the APPLICATION of knowledge and understanding of the course concepts in order to assess whether students are understanding (mastering) the material and key concepts. What do you like best?

We love FlipGrid! It is incredibly user friendly for both staff and students to use. It allows all students to have a voice which is especially important during virtual learning. Students can respond to a prompt with a video and then listen to and respond to their peers. It can be used as a quick formative assessment, book club discussions, or to share book recommendations and math talks!

I was able to teach the use of FlipGrid to my 9-10 year old students within minutes. It is incredibly easy to use and students can log in with Google to create their account.

I like that I can turn the boards on and off so that they are only available when I am ready for them. We can also set a date range for students to access. This helps me plan ahead but not have students work ahead.

FlipGrid also provides a lot of support to teachers in terms of lesson that you can work through to become more comfortable and become a FlipGrid ambassador. There is also a sandbox of lessons and materials that you can copy and use for your own class. This has been incredibly helpful in not recreating the wheel! Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike?

There aren't many downsides to FlipGrid other than it takes awhile for the teacher to watch all of the videos!

The other downside to FlipGrid would be the sheer number of emojis or distorted backgrounds that students can choose to use. I haven't found a way to turn this feature off and so something students change their background or put an emoji over their face so I cannot see who they are.

Additionally, if you are in a live Zoom call, students need to turn the camera off and mute themselves on Zoom in order for the camera to work in FlipGrid. This took some problem solving at the beginning but kids are adaptable and helped us figure out what needed to be done in order to record videos on FlipGrid while still in our live Zoom call lessons. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Recommendations to others considering the product:

If you are looking for a video recording service that is safe and easy to use for students, I absolutely recommend FlipGrid. It is incredibly easy for students of all ages to learn how to use.

There is a time limit on FlipGrid videos so consider that when you are searching for a video recording platform.

Also, consider the purpose of your video recording. Are you having students use this so that you can increase conversation or you just want them to send you a quick video? Both would work ... but FlipGrid allows other students to respond, comment or like another student's video. You may want to turn off commenting and pay careful attention to your settings when you are setting up your assignment.

FlipGrid share codes for boards/lessons are easily integrated with Canvas, Google Classroom or even by sending them the access code via email. FlipGrid is a FREE platform for teachers which can be hard to come by. It is a quality resource for free that can be used across all content areas. I highly recommend it. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

FlipGrid has allowed us to give students a greater voice during virtual learning. With lessons being on Zoom, we don't have the ability to turn and talk with ease. Using FlipGrid gives every child the opportunity to share their voice as well as respond to others.

They are motivated to use FlipGrid and record videos of themselves! This taps into a student's love of making videos for websites like TikTok but turns it into an educational opportunity.

We have used it to do math talks, book club discussions, book shares, dance parties, birthday greetings and much more!

As a staff member, we have used FlipGrid to share greetings with students, share our voice in union member meetings, and communicate with the community. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best?

This is a great tool to communicate with students and/or colleagues. You can get feedback and take questions that you need to answer during a meeting or gathering on Zoom. Flipgrid is a place to share ideas and collaborate for projects. You have the potential to give immediate feedback both to the whole group or privately to one on one messages. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike?

At first it seems like another tool people need to learn and yet at the same time, once you learn it then it can be a great tool. Many try to just use the chat box in a Zoom meeting, but if you refer them to the Flipgrid, then the questions are easier to access later also. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Recommendations to others considering the product:

If you want to stay in connection with a group of people, then Flipgrid is a great tool to use! Use it with your staff or with your students. Post videos and then have the immediate feedback with your groups. It is a good tool to use to build that community when we are not all able to be in the building at one time during this pandemic. Explore the discussions and create activities for one on one learning or working as a whole group. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

It is a great tool to give immediate feedback. You can communicate with students and it is available through their Chromebooks, phones, tablets, etc. It is a great way to have students helping with finding their key details in a passage and really be able to guide students in a one on one experience. They get a notification and so it is immediate. It is great for students to communicate especially during this distance learning time. Plus staff can do fun welcome videos to create the community we are missing during this pandemic also. Flipgrid is a great way to stay connected. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best?

Kids can respond to a prompt but you can control who sees it. It's a great way to get to know kids personally and have them respond to questions. Kids actually enjoy using it because they are able to chat with their friends. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike?

Some kids are uncomfortable using it because they don't like having their face on camera. Kids who have difficulty with technology may struggle with it. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

I can have students interact with each other outside of class about content and monitor what they're saying. I can also hear their thinking without them having to write or type. It really gets students to think because they know other people are listening/watching. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best?

I really like that I see the students and hear their voices in an audio response. I've very much missed them and hearing them during remote learning. this is also a helpful alternative to typing or writing because it is accessible to more students to just speak their answer. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike?

There was very little that I did not like about flipgrid. one of the things though is how many clicks it takes to get you to the recording page. It's definitely best with middle to high school students. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Recommendations to others considering the product:

For ESL or special education students. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

The problems that flip grid have solved are engagement related. sitting and typing into a document can definitely be tedious and boring for students, but when they are able to record short videos of themselves answering or sharing something, they tend to be more involved. What do you like best?

The interface is really familiar to students (very similar to the Snapchat or Instagram story cameras), so the barrier to entry is pretty low and, in my experience, students have felt freer to be creative and fun in their video responses - as opposed to written discussion boards, where many students feel pressure to write 'academically' or formally (even if the discussion isn't that formal, written communication in the classroom comes with pressures and anxiety for some students).

The features (adding gifs to prompts, callouts, emoji, etc. etc.) make it easy as an instructor to express my own voice and bring more of myself into the online classroom, which can be a difficulty.

The mobile app allows for a lot of creative, unexpected engagements that would otherwise be tough in an online classroom - I had students video themselves on a walk and narrate what they noticed, for instance (need to be flexible if students don't have smartphones, of course).

LMS integration (in Canvas specifically - I think other integrations are less straightforward) is smooth and helps keep students where they need to be - in the online "classroom" and not running around on the web. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike?

It can be tough to support students with technical difficulties - since we're online, I can't sit down with them and work through issues if their audio doesn't work or if they can't access the app. Flipgrid's support resources are good but some edge cases kind of defy support - students who are completely not tech savvy, or fringe tech issues can get left behind a little bit. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Recommendations to others considering the product:

If you do want to integrate Flipgrid into your online (or hybrid or even f2f) class, I would recommend planning to integrate it frequently throughout the course (rather than as a one-off assignment); the setup on both the instructor's and student's part is a lot more worthwhile if you set up the "grid" to be revisited frequently (I did once a week), and students seem to get more out of it (exploring the camera/editing features more deeply and creatively) as they get more familiar. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Problems: Student engagement, social presence, and "place" in online classes; quick-hit discussion/reflection; pre-"assessment" for specific lessons or concepts

Benefits: Students feel more involved in the class and with each other, I get to see their faces at least a little bit when teaching online Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Flipgrid allows students to show what they know in different ways. Some students that do not write as well love having the option to submit a video response. Some of my students know the content but cannot write it as well as they can say it. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best?

I like that flipgrid is easy to use and easy to access for my students. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike?

The downside to using flipgrid is that not all of my students have a device to use. When I want to quickly assess what a student knows it is a quick tool but not everyone has the same access to technology. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

It helps me keep my paperwork at a minimum. It also helps in reviewing as students watch other's videos. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
