Works beautifully when it works. Easy to get the UI to break doing pretty basic flows. Server often errors either silently or with cryptic errors, reflecting poorly on our product as it leaves us to take the blame Flatfile's instability. Their status page professes a very high uptime rate, but anecdotally after interacting with their API on a near-daily basis for the last several months, I would take their uptime claims with a grain of salt; what's the use of the server being online if it responds with 500s anyway on what should be a valid network request? Lacks adequate customizability. **What problems is Flatfile solving and how is that benefiting you?** It's supposed to solve the problem of ingesting CSVs but is more of a headache than it's worth. I would much rather write the functionality myself. There isn't anything Flatfile does that really makes them unique or gives them a moat IMO. ### 2. Without it, it would not be an understatement to say that we would not have a product. Their customer support is also very impressive - I really enjoyed working with Michael Poythress and Arseniy Barmin. **What do you dislike about Flatfile?** Initial setup requires quite a lot of implementation work. We really like the product, I think the only thing we could ever ask for is a "free tier" for very low utilization and experimentation. However, they provide many opportunities to access their product affordable right now. **What problems is Flatfile solving and how is that benefiting you?** Helps us standardize and validate data coming from a multitude of sources that have similar vocabulary, but each have thier own spin on it. this allows us to run comparable analytics and provide more immediate feedback. ### 4. Beyond a great product, Flatfile provides excellent customer support and is easy to work with if any questions arise during implementation. **What do you dislike about Flatfile?** Not much to dislike - Flatfile provides a B2B Data exchange solution, which can be a complex problem or time investment to solve from scratch. I believe Flatfile will continue to enhance and simplify offerings for great tooling on all aspects of data exchange. **What problems is Flatfile solving and how is that benefiting you?** Flatfile allows customers to bulk import their data, which makes onboarding new customers easier. I've started to think of Flatfile for data exchange like I think about Stripe for billing. It has all the features you'd expect from an importer plus ones you wouldn't initially consider. For developers, their API is well documented and their support was always available to discuss approach. We've made Flatfile a cricitical part of our onboarding process and it's worked out great! **What do you dislike about Flatfile?** It did take longer to implement than we initially anticipated. While there is a drop-in option, the real power comes from processing data as you import which requires custom development in your own app. Our importer needed to validate lots of different kinds of data some of which didn't fit as nicely into the box as I would have hoped. **Recommendations to others considering Flatfile:** Check out their documentation. That should give you a lot of comfort in what you can accomplish. **What problems is Flatfile solving and how is that benefiting you?** Building your own importer is fraught with all sorts of development problems...performance, UI/UX, validations, etc. Flatfile saved us 100's of development hours and it works great. Not having to build or manage the import code allows us to focus on more important aspects of our codebase. They drag-and-drop, then Flatfile squeezes their data into my desired format. I also like that it can be configured to run client-side only. This was a key requirement for some customers, as there would be data protection issues involved in transferring the data to Flatfile's server. **What do you dislike about Flatfile?** The only minor issue is that the client-side version is not quite as fully-featured as the version that sends data to the Flatfile backend, meaning that the column matching is not quite as smart. But this is really minor - I'd strongly recommend Flatfile. **What problems is Flatfile solving and how is that benefiting you?** Flatfile allows customers' CSV files that may have a variety of formats to be shoehorned into my required format. Like many companies, we previously shared a templated CSV file that customers could complete in order to import their data into our software. No matter how prescriptive we were, there was always a string of data related issues that would make this a challenge—data could easily be corrupted based on whether the file was opened on a Mac vs. a PC, checklist and radio list properties required special formatting, users might store dates in European formats, and then there were differences in encoding (ASCII, UTF-8, etc) that frankly were completely foreign to most of our customers and could impact whether their import was successful or not. It's a big, meaty, unglamorous problem—and one that Flatfile solved for us almost overnight. Implementation was easy and now our customers have an intuitive interface that they can use to map their data appropriately prior to import. Most importantly import errors as a result of data formatting issues have been entirely solved. We've been using FaltFile since late 2019, and the customer service has been very responsive. The team is very proactive in creating more advanced features and improving the system for sophisticated scenarios. **What do you dislike about Flatfile?** v1.0 had some limitations when it came to dynamic mapping, which has been addressed now. **Recommendations to others considering Flatfile:** I'd take advantage of talking to the founders. You can expect high-quality personalized demo and support from them. **What problems is Flatfile solving and how is that benefiting you?** Prior to FaltFile, we had to dedicate one of our Excel Wizards to our weekly imports to make sure everything gets done right.
