Great completion & code generation, projects compilation & debugging, plenty of project templates, SWF/SWC exploration etc. FlashDevelop is also a great web development IDE with source-control support (svn, git, mercurial), tasks, snippets, XML/HTML completion and zen-coding for HTML. ## Flashdevelop Reviews ### 1. It is a very fast code completer as well. It is very easy to learn and use as well. It has that Adobe feel and look to it, so if you have used other Adobe apps this will not have a long learning curve at all. **What do you dislike about Flashdevelop?** The "AppMan" integrated updater is horrible. It is buggy, clunky and I feel either needs to be eliminated or overhauled completely. It is a good idea, just not implemented well. I remember certain aspects of it needing updated and it took forever for those updates to roll out. **Recommendations to others considering Flashdevelop:** It is great to use, but do not rely on the integrated updater. **What problems is Flashdevelop solving and how is that benefiting you?** Saving time building Flash projects. It's quite useful for game development due to its rapid compile and run times, as well as its great debugging functionality with FlashDevelop. **What do you dislike about Flashdevelop?** FlashDevelop is for Windows only, and it's not cross-platform either, which I wish is not the case as I am mainly a mac user. **What problems is Flashdevelop solving and how is that benefiting you?** I have used it to develop games as well as to develop plugins. I specifically like using this IDE because it is very useful for carrying out high-speed HTML coding and editing. ### 4. FlashDevelop includes many features that Flash Professional does not, even basic things like searching a whole project or refactoring. It's not the best IDE that I have used in my career but for simple ActionScript development it gets the job done comfortably, which cannot be said about Adobe's offering. ### 5. Great documentation and Wiki. **What do you dislike about Flashdevelop?** No further support for some of its plugins. (Flex PMD, FlexUnit, etc) Tedious to setup with FlashCS6 (Flex Builder is seamless) Making folder structures on the fly is a pain within the program. Learn from Microsoft Visual Studios. FlashDevelop should include automatically a PMD, a Unit Tester, etc. **Recommendations to others considering Flashdevelop:** Similar to FlexBuilder and Visual Studios, this is a great IDE to use for coding in AS3 and other flash languages from previous versions. I would like to mention that to take full advantage of this application, look into some of the plugins and potentially external libraries like greensocket or Starling for additional usage. **What problems is Flashdevelop solving and how is that benefiting you?** Implementing and creating new software applications in AS3 and possibly HTML5 in the near future. ### 8. It's native and lightweight, with minimal Java dependencies. The code completion and core IDE functionality is top-notch, for both re factoring and browsing through massive amounts of files. **What do you dislike about Flashdevelop?** The mechanism to integrate AIR SDK could use some work - It's always one version behind in the SDK tab of the project settings. My complaints are for minor issues. For mobile development - although greatly improved, the build process relies heavily on DOS batch scripts. Also, the keyboard shortcuts are non-standard. **What problems is Flashdevelop solving and how is that benefiting you?** Game development for mobile and desktop. FD gives excellent productivity and does not stand in the way of processes. ### 10.
