We had to the cost planning and it was very easy for us to understand our growth, our usage and find the best annual value for the contract. **What do you dislike about Fivetran?** UI is great but we saw so many discrepencies between our actual usage and what fivetran showed. IT took us a while for us to make them agree to that. **What problems is Fivetran solving and how is that benefiting you?** We have to pull our data from postgres and these are realtime transactions so volume is huge. On top of that we needed WAL replication. Fivetran helped us bring the data from postgres, excel sheet and salesforce into snowflake for our billing pipeline and ML. ### 5. Once a query is in place, setting up the model and a sync is very very easy - I particularly love the ease with which Census enables mapping of certain data fields to Salesforce fields. Syncs are reliable and we are always kept up to date if there are any issues via email notifications. I will also say that I hugely appreciate Census's decision to enable product support via a bespoke Slack channel - it makes dealing with any issues that do arise, or questions that we do have, much more productive and pleasant as everything is centralised and can be seen by everyone. It also means that we don't need to depart our usual company comms procedure - something which is very welcome in this age of live chat, email support, callbacks, on demand Zoom calls etc. **What do you dislike about Fivetran?** The only issue I've come across with Census is that the default setting for all models in an instance is for it not to record the sync logs anywhere. This has to be requested and set up separately (Warehouse Writeback) - which can be an issue if not known in advance and the sync logs are suddenly required. Otherwise, everything is great! **What problems is Fivetran solving and how is that benefiting you?** Making syncing data from an enormous BigQuery warehouse into our internal CRM systems a breeze via intelligent mapping and customisable syncs. ### 7. Another workaround could be creating a JSON structure from multiple columns. Having the entire feedback loop of sending data from Salesforce and Intercom to our Data Warehouse and then back to those applications from the Data Warehouse has been incredible. **What do you dislike about Fivetran?** There isn't much to dislike. We started testing their Mailgun integration and immediately got asked to start paying for it. I can't overstate how transformative it is to be able to pass information from a data warehouse into a CRM or other tool using only SQL, without needing to go through an engineering department. I haven't used Census directly for a few months, so they've probably added features for anything I might have found frustrating by now. **What problems is Fivetran solving and how is that benefiting you?** Let's say your marketing tools don't know who is and isn't a customer. (This is a problem I've run into at multiple organizations I've worked with, from freelancing to full-time jobs; in some cases, answering the question "which of these email addresses is a customer?" required manual CSV exports!) You have a separate reporting tool that does know who is and isn't a customer. Wouldn't it be amazing if you could use the report query to push all the data you need directly to your CRM? Census does that. The interface is bare-bones in the best sense of the word: no useless features, transparent explanations of load times and syncs, simple setup. ### 28. The pricing model also seems to be pretty reasonable if you are using the solution to connect multiple data sources, but with low-mid volume of data. **What do you dislike about Fivetran?** The number of connectors are a bit limited and their custom connector creation is completely on you and is not really user-friendly. Also, a lot of connectors only have a full sync of all possible data you have on a source system and not selective sync that enables you take only the required data to your destination. It works really well for low-volume data sources such as Google Sheets etc. effectively cutting the engineer in the loop from these data sources. It is easy to spin up sources from high-volume data sources like Google Analytics, Meta Ads etc. but be extremely aware that this is very cost ineffective usage of the platform. **What do you dislike about Fivetran?** Extremely opaque billing practices. Our bill shot up about 5x month over month with no notice because of very loose usage of "free historical syncs." The initial trial period for connectors obfuscates billing for connectors and the platform does not provide any control over your spending (such as maximum spend limits or accurate spend forecasts). In conjunction with how the usage is calculated - effectively, you will get charged 80% of the usage for the month on the first day and the rest throughout the month; this means that you do not have any control over your spending throughout the month. On top of this, the support for billing is extremely thin and our experience is that Client Success team has a very limited understanding of billing and usage and even less agency over it.They will hop on a call when you want and they will act emphathic etc. but in our experience, they never follow-up on their action items. Extremely unhelpful and patronizing attitude in general. **What problems is Fivetran solving and how is that benefiting you?** We used fivetran to extract data from various sources and sink it in our data warehouse. It does this job relatively okay but the billing practices make the tool effectively a very low ROI investment, I'd recommend just going the traditional ETL route. ### 44. Census is always providing very helpful notifications on sync failures, but more from the Census end. If an actual error happens on the destination system end it is not always considered a sync failure.
