I have been blown away by every step of the process. The sales process was easy and accomodating, pricing was upfront and transparent. Setting up the connections to my data was so easy that I couldn't believe I'd done it correctly the first time. The visibility into the load, performance, and errors on my various connectors is also excellent and helps me stay on top of any issues that do crop up. I'm only scratching the surface of what FiveTran has to offer but so far I've been very pleased. **What do you dislike about Fivetran?** So far I haven't had a single complaint. **What problems is Fivetran solving and how is that benefiting you?** As with most, our use with Fivetran is to move the data from the various tools we use into our data warehouse. In our case, we are taking data from things like Stripe, Hubspot, Facebook Ads, and on and on, and sending all of those various sources into Google BigQuery. ### 3. Monitoring is also made easy. Replications are fast. So overall, very functionnal. We had a nice support experience during our pre-sale POC. **What do you dislike about Fivetran?** Pricing is high. It's not ideal to have to wonder about how adding a new connector of some schemas/tables can affect the cost dramatically the cost. Also, some connectors are missing. But so far we made it work alright. **What problems is Fivetran solving and how is that benefiting you?** Replicate data from different sources we have (saas tools we're using, databases etc.), and load them to our data warehouse from which we use dbt to transform them before visualization. ### 6. As a marketing ops person, using Census means that it's *trivial* for me to add a customer's product-related activity data to Salesforce, calculate summary stats for Marketo, and much more. Just requires a little collaboration with our data team. **What do you dislike about Fivetran?** The product is still in its pretty early stages, so the UI of Census needs a little more love. Examples of this include categorizing the various syncs you have on your dashboards, their reporting of alerts/errors, etc. That said, the Census team is extremely hungry for feedback and has actively made changes based on crowdsourced feedback (and occasionally from direct, specific feedback that I've offered about my own specific use-cases). Nonetheless, the value of Census is far worth any momentary confusion I encounter, or the occasional digging required to troubleshoot issues (which stem from our own data, rather than anything wrong with Census itself). **Recommendations to others considering Fivetran:** As with any tool like this, just make sure you have a decent foundation of data already in your systems, that's prepared to be sent to other systems (e.g. appropriate field types, etc). Otherwise, no cautionary tales. **What problems is Fivetran solving and how is that benefiting you?** Prior to Census, we didn't have a great, non-Engineering-related way to sync data back to the SaaS tools that our business teams use. It meant that we only synced data to one tool – Salesforce – and making changes was cumbersome. Now we're syncing data to several places with intentions for more. For whatever reason, every so often syncs fail but then auto-recover on their own. It's so simple to create a new sync that we're don't need to rely on data engineers to start moving data to the tools used by other teams: Salesforce, Hubspot, Google Sheets... **What do you dislike about Fivetran?** We're missing a sandbox environment, where we can create and test syncs without actually updating the data in the platform. A sandbox mode would be great to isolate environments effectively in our data stack. **What problems is Fivetran solving and how is that benefiting you?** We are able to send data to the tools used by other teams with a very low effort. As a data engineer, in the past, I had to create custom scripts to sync tables in our data warehouse with our CRM, and now it just takes 5 minutes to start sending data to other platforms. It took us about 30 minutes to configure everything and have data replicating from source system to data warehouse. Well worth the cost. **What do you dislike about Fivetran?** Pricing model gives me some pause, and I don't like that there is an upcharge to version data (e.g. store different permutations of rows as data changes... but again it's worth it). **Recommendations to others considering Fivetran:** Make sure to re-evaluate and investigate other vendors (e.g. AirByte), but if you need to move quickly and can afford it, Fivetran is best in class. **What problems is Fivetran solving and how is that benefiting you?** Replicating data from source systems to data warehouse. Right now you can only sync data into a slack channel. It'd be great to have the ability to direct message, someone, from slack via Census **What problems is Fivetran solving and how is that benefiting you?** We have solved a variety of problems, the biggest being helping operationalize our data and give it to employees that can quickly take action on it. Our main use case was sending data to salesforce. Easy to setup, use, create syncs, trigger syncs with dbt cloud! Syncs are much faster and reliable than the alternative tools I've tried. Great support team, always timely with their answers. **What do you dislike about Fivetran?** Some features I would suggest: 1. Being able to change the dbt model of an existing sync. 2. Improvements on Amplitude sync to be more flexible 3. Admin controls I would also suggest having a user generated content on how users use census and how they solve challenges. Sharing best practices would also go a long way, specially during onboarding phase. **What problems is Fivetran solving and how is that benefiting you?** Our use cases are mainly sales analytics and behavioral analytics. We are using census to sync data to Salesforce and Amplitude. While Census itself is fantastic, what sets this product apart is the team behind it. They are highly responsive to service inquiries and are always receptive to feature requests that meet the demands of our growing business. **What do you dislike about Fivetran?** Census has some work to do before it becomes a mature product. Technical issues impacting syncs are more frequent than ideal, though these are typically resolved quickly. Some of our third party marketing tools charge us for the volume of data we send. Census occasionlly struggles to find the right balance between economically processing updates with sync speed. **What problems is Fivetran solving and how is that benefiting you?** Census allows us to have one centralized platform for sending company data outside the organization to our third-party providers. Depending on the destination, its addition can have a very large impact to cost (ex. Netsuite, SalesForce). **What problems is Fivetran solving and how is that benefiting you?** We use Census to push customer data down to a variety of tools from our enterprise data warehouse. Non-engineers can config the connections, edit mappings and check the status of syncs. It also makes reverse ETL (multiple destinations) easier to maintain for the data eng team. **What do you dislike about Fivetran?** I asked Census about connector supporting Mixpanel lookup table a while ago and it is live now! So please developing more connectors and more supported objects. Role based permission managment is also needed. For example, admin is able to create and config source and destinations, while basic user can only edit mappings/schedule in syncs, etc.. **What problems is Fivetran solving and how is that benefiting you?** I used to develop reverse ETL system with Python and Airflow for destinations like Eloqua, Mixpanel, Braze, Intercom, and Salesforce. Every destination requires different data types, formats, rate limits, and API requests. Census sets me from maintaining my custom code, so I can spend more time to optimize the system itself. The user-friendly UI enables non-engineers and stakeholders to adjust columns, mappings, and schedules. We love it for getting data into google sheets out of our snowflake database. They initially didn't have an airtable connection - but it appears they have that now. Will be going back and checking that out soon! **What problems is Fivetran solving and how is that benefiting you?** Avoiding having to write ETL with talend or manually writings jobs to get data out of our database(s) and into various cloud based platforms and apps. They offer a wide variety of data sources and destinations, covering a broader range of integrations that are relevant to our business than many competitors. They are also one of the few providers I've seen that have a decently functional web interface with comparable API capabilities. We use Powered by Fivetran, which enables us to extract data on behalf of clients without storing credentials or creating apps on our end, which is not a use case many providers support. The overall user and developer experiences for authorization via Fivetran are also fairly seamless. One of the best parts of Fivetran is their support system. My perspective may be biased since my company is on a plan with priority support, but my team has submitted quite a few support tickets and our experience with Fivetran has consistently been far better than our experience with other third-party providers (and we pay for premium support for most partners who offer it). With other partners, we typically run into issues where the first response to a ticket is unhelpful, as lower-level support folks tend to not have the answers we need (or sometimes will provide us with incorrect answers) and we usually have to wait for a ticket to be escalated at least once or twice before we have any resolution. However, most of our Fivetran inquiries and issues have been resolved within 1 or 2 responses, and the level of detail provided is top-notch! **What do you dislike about Fivetran?** Fivetran's documentation is organized in a more intuitive way than that of most software companies, but like many others, the documentation falls out of date quickly and contradicts itself in many locations. Documentation maintenance is difficult, especially when there is so much of it to manage, but we've had several issues where key details are either missing or incorrect (e.g. incorrect connector configs in their API docs, missing data sources on their list of priority-first syncs). The caveat to this is that their support system is great, so we've never had trouble receiving timely responses when we reach out about the discrepancies, but it would be nice to not have to reach out for such trivial questions. **What problems is Fivetran solving and how is that benefiting you?** My company aggregates data from a broad range of data sources and the parts of the integration process that continually proves to be the hardest are authentication and extraction. We don't use Fivetran for transformation, but Powered by Fivetran has allowed us to integrate quickly by eliminating the need to develop apps, build auth flows, and automate API calls. ### 43. Other folks at my company had never used Fivetran before and were able to get their connectors up and running within 15 mins. We are a very small data team relative to the size of our company and having a product that we can essentially set up and not give another thought to has been a gamechanger. Fivetran simply does what I need it to do and my CSM has been super-responsive and helpful whenever I need some additional support. **What do you dislike about Fivetran?** Fivetran has a heftier price tag than the other products in the ELT space. I would like the integrations with dbt to be stronger and more robust (I think this is in the roadmap). I think it would be useful to have more detailed dbt run logs, for dbt run pricing model to better match how users actually use dbt (don't penalize for using high # of modular dbt models). I would find it immensely helpful if Fivetran produced more content on getting everything we need out of the Fivetran-dbt integration: how-to blogs or follow-along videos for leveraging Fivetran's pre-built models, implementing good CI/CD, etc. **What problems is Fivetran solving and how is that benefiting you?** As a small data team, we need to be able to surface the high-level KPIs and metrics that company leaders need - and we need to do it in a way that's both scalable and flexible. Fivetran frees up our time to build data products with our data, and not have to sink any time in to getting our data to some place we can work with it. ### 45. It is very easy to use and provides an excellent messaging service when there are errors in the data transfer. This is very useful for debugging. **What do you dislike about Fivetran?** The per field billing option is not the best for us given we have a low number of rows, however, every company needs a billing model of some kind. This saves on the task of writing and maintaining this pipeline ourselves. This is from out data warehouse BigQuery.
