When I set my FireMon to listen to what is happening behind that rule in a flat network, FireMon itself points out the weaknesses of this rule and informs me of possible vulnerabilities. **What do you dislike about Policy Manager?** I don't like the fact that I can't filter changes made by specific users; this sometimes hinders diagnosis and reduces accuracy when identifying which user made the change. I don't like the cluster settings, this duplicates the number of rules in my environment and increases management complexity. Not to mention that in some cases it is not necessary to monitor both firewalls of a cluster since in terms of policies and interface both are the same thing regardless of the hardware. **What problems is Policy Manager solving and how is that benefiting you?** In the environment where I worked, we were experiencing great difficulty in understanding and quantifying the traffic behind a flat network. Although the firewall showed the IPs behind the rules, it was still difficult to make a more precise and surgical assessment of this. With the implementation of FireMon, this problem was quickly resolved, saving hours of work and human effort, as the report generated by the tool was very accurate and detailed. ### 2. In the real world, most companies don’t rely on just one firewall brand; you usually end up with a mix of Palo Alto, Check Point, Fortigate, and maybe some cloud-native security groups in AWS or Azure. What I like is that Policy Manager treats them all the same—it acts as a universal translator so you aren’t jumping between five different consoles just to check a single rule. The UI is built for power users, so while there’s a bit of a learning curve, the performance and AI-driven insights make it worth it by spotting risky "policy drift" before an auditor does. It’s definitely an investment, but the ROI hits home when you realize you’ve traded weeks of manual cleanup and "audit panic" for a streamlined, automated workflow backed by a support team that truly understands the tech. **What do you dislike about Policy Manager?** While FireMon is incredibly powerful, it isn’t without its frustrations, and most of them stem from its “enterprise-first” design. The biggest hurdle is the steep learning curve: it’s a “power user” tool, so if you aren’t in it every day, the interface can feel overwhelming—and in some places, even a bit “basic” or dated, especially around the reporting engine. It’s also fairly resource-heavy, needing a lot of RAM and CPU to keep everything running smoothly, which can be a real headache for infrastructure teams. We choose to ensure that our guideline matches the compliance criteria and get some extra steps in certain cases to ensure that we are safe to create custom reports or to use the pre-built layouts. Also, Firemon offers many choices for user interfaces and it provides some user-friendly frameworks. **What do you dislike about Policy Manager?** Many manual fields can be filled for the Firewall laws of FireMon Security Manager, such as database audit information and when it was last audited. This is great but if it is deleted, it can not be applied again. It has happened to us and we ran into some problems, so it should be managed in a safe and efficient way. Also, you will need to add additional components to show the FireMon Security Manager full capacity. **Recommendations to others considering Policy Manager:** Firemon is a tool I can highly recommend to companies that need a controlled system with compliance and reporting requirements. **What problems is Policy Manager solving and how is that benefiting you?** FireMon Security Manager is mostly used within the IT department for the administration of firewall schemes, for policy analysis, and incorporation into the CAB certification process. It offers further tools that are enabled by the firewall needs and that has allowed us to find and resolve some problems quickly.
