In my experience, optical character recognition works much better in FR than in Acrobat. I definitely have a lot of options for customising OCR. It shows exactly where "manual", human )) recognition would help make the end result even better. Many "semi-manual" options are supported (e.g. cleaning pages in various ways, making lines straighter and more horizontal, etc.). I am very much confused by the fact that there are different subprogrammes in the programme (FR itself, separate OCR and some others) whose functions overlap. I still can't figure out which ABBYY editor (and there are many!) to choose in this or that situation. Sometimes I start working with FR and then switch to OCR because FR doesn't have some feature I need (but there are others that are in FR!). Another problem for me is that FR doesn't work with XFA forms, it can't even open a PDF containing such forms (( Also, some (not all, but some) changes made to a document in the editor cannot be undone! I use every day ABBYY FineReader PDF for Windows for electronic signing my proposals to my customers using my own .p12 file while also adding as part of the sign stamp my handwritten signature giving a great look to PDF as also security.

Other feature I use a lot is to convert my favorite PDF ebooks to epub files for sending to my Kindle device. The OCR editor allows me to review in depth the OCR recognition results as also fine tune graphs sections that contains text to leave them as image only so while reading in Kindle it is shown as an image instead of lines of text and part of images.

The FineReader PDF feature for transforming data tables on PDF or scanned documents to Excel is awesome since it's autodetect table structure with minimal or no user intervention. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

I would prefer that multiple opened PDF files could be opened as tabs instead on multiple windows. Not big deal now.

At first glance, the home screen is far more visually appealing than Adobe. Even the familiar ribbon at the side is cleaner and more efficient than Adobe's version.
