It’s awesome to hear that Filio is helping you manage all those site photos without cluttering up your personal gallery. I noticed you mentioned the app has been slowing down your phone. Even though the photos aren't in your camera roll, the app sometimes holds onto a "cache" of synced data that can get a bit heavy over time. To speed things up immediately, try this: 1. Open the Filio data collector app and go to Settings. 2. Tap on Data and Storage. 3. Set the "Remove synced media" option to one or two weeks. This will automatically clear out the local storage for photos that are already safely backed up in our cloud, which should make your phone feel much faster. Regarding your concerns, we want to clear a few things up because your data is much safer than it might seem. Here is what is likely happening under the hood: 1. On GPS Accuracy: Filio records your coordinates using your phone’s GPS hardware the exact second you take the photo, it doesn’t wait for a cell signal to "tag" it. If the location seems off, it’s often because photos were imported from the phone’s gallery (where metadata can get stripped) rather than taken directly inside the Filio data collector app. We highly recommend users to use the Filio data collector app to capture photos. 2. On "Disappearing" Photos: Rest assured, Filio never deletes your photos. If you lose connection or the app closes, your photos are stored securely in the device’s local memory. They might "hide" for a moment if a sync is interrupted, but as soon as you have a stable connection and open the app, they will finish their journey to the cloud. What problems is Filio solving and how is that benefiting you? Filio addresses a core problem I face in my professional work: the fragmentation of complex information across tools, formats, and timelines. In civil engineering, particularly in geohazards and post-disaster response, workflows are inherently multidisciplinary and fast-moving. Data, observations, interpretations, decisions, and follow-up actions are often scattered across emails, reports, notes, maps, and ad-hoc documents. Filio provides a coherent structure for organizing this complexity without imposing an artificial or rigid workflow. In my work, Filio functions as a central cognitive workspace in which technical notes, evolving hypotheses, field observations, insights from the literature, and action items coexist and evolve. This is particularly valuable in disaster response and geohazard assessment, where decisions must be made under uncertainty, information arrives incrementally, and priorities shift rapidly. I like Filio for its higher precision compared to the default Apple photo app, and the orientation features really help. Regarding your concern about location data: rest assured that Filio records the GPS coordinates at the exact moment the photo is taken, not when it is uploaded. Even in areas with poor or no cell service, the data is stored securely and will automatically sync to the cloud once you are back in range. If you find the location is misleading, we highly recommend capturing media directly through the Filio Data Collector app rather than importing from your phone’s gallery, as mobile operating systems often remove metadata during the import process.
