FileZilla was our go-to free FTP solution for years. Easy to set up, supported multiple protocols, and worked well for basic file transfer needs. Great for small teams with limited budgets. We liked that it was completely free, open-source, cross-platform compatibility. Good for quick file transfers and basic server configurations. Manual updates were a nightmare. No built-in scalability, required constant server maintenance. Security patches were inconsistent, and we constantly worried about potential vulnerabilities. Unlike most of FTP Clients, FileZilla has a relatively simple setup process and easy-to-use UI. It is an ideal choice for beginners and people inexperienced in FTP. While not ideal, they have made things a loi easier to find and use. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com. What do you dislike about FileZilla? It is not ideal for large file transfers. In my experience the file transfers would often stall if I left it running in the background for couple of seconds. Also, during large file transfers I found it to fail very frequently. I had talked to my server and they confirmed that the issue with FTP was app specific. It worked perfectly for me on other clients like WinSCP. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com. I don't like that the product needs updates practically every week in order to keep going. I don't get the notice until I need to use the transfer service and am in a time crunch. Filezilla is a very intuitive software that allows me to easily connect to FTP servers in order to manage the files in a simple way, it allows me to delete, move and edit files with just a few clicks, I also like that it can have a directory of frequent sites with which I can make a quick connection. FileZilla does what it says on the tin. It lets you transfer files via FTP. Back in the old days, it had some advanced features like the ability to drag and drop files But these are now standard in every FTP software. I used FileZilla from 2010 to 2014. Now I only use it occasionally. I much prefer Cyberduck, which does everything FileZilla does, but is slightly faster and looks nicer. One big advantage FileZilla has is that it is free and cross platform. (Cyberduck is only free on Mac. The Windows version is quite pricey). Review collected by and hosted on G2.com. What do you dislike about FileZilla? The main problem with the software is that the interface is a tad slow. To be honest, unless you are using another program like Cyberduck, then you won't really notice it. This is a minor quibble. A big problem is that when installing it tries to trick you installing Yahoo toolbar. You have to read what you are doing very carefully, if you don’t want to be tricked. I don’t think this is a nice thing for an app to do. You will experience this trick every time you use the installer, so be careful! Review collected by and hosted on G2.com. Recommendations to others considering FileZilla: If you work on Mac only, go for Cyberduck as it is snappier. If you work on Windows, then go for FileZilla as it is still an excellent piece of software and has the big advantage of being free. I used to use FileZilla frequently for uploading files and managing FTP servers. I now only use it occasionally for this purpose as I have switched over to Cyberduck.
