It's not necessarily a bad thing but the simpler the better. It slowed up our billing a few months. Now they beta test longer before making changes. The best part about Filevine is that it is completely customizable to your firm's needs! Plus customizing it yourself is easy and their support webpage offers great instructions/demonstrations on how to customize/use features. **What do you dislike about Filevine?** I am only filling this section out as it is required...I don't have any negatives to point out! If I had to choose a downside, it would be that the feature to customize contact cards is very limited - which is the opposite of all the other customizing options (not limited). However, this feature is fairly new (I think) so perhaps over time, it will offer more customizing options. **Recommendations to others considering Filevine:** Sign up! **What problems is Filevine solving and how is that benefiting you?** Filevine has saved us so much time with the document generation feature. That feature has taken 30-minute tasks and turned them into 5-minute tasks. The Yield tab within Filevine is also helpful in saving time with calculations. ### 31. Our firm uses it for Personal Injury, PIP, Probate and Wills & Estate Planning. I also use it for Office Admin, Marketing Campaign Projects, HR - Personnel Files, Complex Event Planning and other Project Management. I have been able to build some amazing tools with FileVine and just a little imagination. **What do you dislike about Filevine?** I wish I'd had more extensive training on the front end. One of our associates was initially tasked with building the initial projects for migration from our old case management, then she was pulled into trials so I had to take over. I was left not really knowing exactly how everything works and inadvertently created a lot of redundancy and chaos. I have had to go back and alter the project templates a few times to get it to be more user-friendly and to encourage staff to actually utilize it. My advice would be to watch as many training videos as you can, even the ones you think don't apply to you. Soak in the information, because you may not get that information from the onboarding staff. (Admittedly, they may have taught that initial associate those key things, but I did not have the benefit of that.) **What problems is Filevine solving and how is that benefiting you?** We, like most firms, are extremely busy and tasks get lost in the works. FileVine does a great job of reminding users of open Tasks and case reviews between assistant and attorney are much smoother. The attorney can see what is outstanding and help the assistant prioritize very easily. ### 32. Not all CRMs are like this, there are a lot of them that are very cryptic and byzantine with how they work, but Filevine makes it easy. Now, I am a very tech savvy person, so that's never really an issue for me, but I know a lot of lawyers are either a bit on the older side thus skeptical of all this new tech, or they simply don't have the time to learn all that you need to learn, so the easier the software is to use the better for everyone. **What do you dislike about Filevine?** I would honestly say the biggest downside is that sometimes it can be a tiny bit slow, it's mostly on very specific tasks that it slows down a bit. I have a pretty decent connection so it's a bit weird, but fortunately it almost never happens. **What problems is Filevine solving and how is that benefiting you?** Filevine helps you organize your clients properly. You have an efficient system that can help you manage your clients in such a way that any info that you might need is just a few clicks away. We use the calendar very heavily and the texting feature is a life saver. **What do you dislike about Filevine?** Well, it would be beneficial to be able to choose the coloring system for the calendar and not specifically assign colors per user. For example, I would like for anything important like Trials or Mediations to be in RED. **Recommendations to others considering Filevine:** Know how many users you will need. Consider a calendaring program to be able to make the switch **What problems is Filevine solving and how is that benefiting you?** They have solved the need for 3rd party applications outside of Filevine which is great. So I have to stall the client will I return back to my task list. It would be so cool if you could see the client's number from your task list. Reporting features are ok. While the customization ability is adequate, FV's mantra of "fully customizable" falls short. **What do you dislike about Filevine?** Inability to mirror fields, report customization, and frequent slowness & outages have dampened our spirit with FV. Also, inability to add team by project type is a problem. Early documentation was ok, but newer documentation is lacking as is support. FV removed the ability to have direct fax lines into projects along with implemented texting charges well after we were sold on this capability. Also, FV is not able to sync with document storage providers like Dropbox and given it's more frequent downtime, this is a concern. And their API is not very robust or complete. Support often takes a while to return your inquiry. **Recommendations to others considering Filevine:** Your initial build and data migration will take more time than you or FV estimate; think of all data points you want in advance before starting to build and try to name them the same as you have in your current software; know you will add more datapoints and information later. FV is easy to use and provides you with tons of data once you get past the learning curve, but you will not be able to get reports on all of your data. The API is great but not as robust as you may be used to. Task management is ok but is a pain if someone is promoted, leaves or is no longer doing the job when the task was originally created. A good solution for many issues in law practice provided you are ok with putting in the work to make it work for your firm. **What problems is Filevine solving and how is that benefiting you?** The custom text utilization allows us to contact our clients while making them feel listened to and appreciated. We are able to more easily run certain reports and have data to help us better manage our firm, but the lack of certain customizations is a point of frustration. The billing and expense section is workable but the inability to run reports on native and built-in FV data points is troublesome. The lack of trust accounting is a detriment to billable practices. Overall we are more automated than ever before and do see progress and improvement from FV but more can be done still - not even with new features, just by enhancing or cleaning up the features they already have. The client portal needs improvement, especially the setup. ### 41.
