I love the flexibility of it all, this is basically a managed service for Varnish which can make the possibilities of what it can do endless. Along with all the added functionality that Fastly put on top it makes it my go-to tool for CND/WAF. Secondarily I would say the fact that Fastly intact and is configurable with Terraform our Infra-as-code management software is a huge plus meaning that is always part of our process and doesn't need extra management away from what we have already. I actually really enjoy when I can use Fastly provisioned TLS. It also holds up to the name, and is fast to purge a cached files (an issue we had with another previous provider which took above 10 minutes to do this). I found some discrepancies in the documentation which is at some level acceptable since the support is always present to answer any questions. There is a good scope for improvement in the VCL snippets section. In my experience, I had some custom requirements. Surprisingly, there were old threads on Fastly Support of users who also had similar requirements. The Fastly team has always been quick to respond and handle any requests and challenges we give them. We have utilized Fastly for their CDN, WAF, and DDOS protection service and have been happy with the results. We can see our client's site performs faster from different regions and have been able to additionally eliminate tasks we previously had our Nginx server. With the Fastly dashboard we can view and log any critical errors or high spikes in traffic live and historically. Certain tasks that I would do with an Nginx, AWS WAF, AWS CDN, and other 3rd party tools I can do all within the Fastly service. The only dislike is the cost can be expensive for our clients but they have been worth the cost. Learning VCL is critical to managing Fastly service which might be a negative for some people but the Fastly team has helped every step and they do a great job with documentation and allow you to use Fiddle to test your VCL code.
