"Advanced Traffic Management with User-Friendly Interface"
4/5
What do you like best about F5 BIG-IP Local Traffic Manager (LTM)?

I really like that the GUI for F5 BIG-IP Local Traffic Manager (LTM) is user-friendly, and its features are more advanced compared to other products. The health monitors, iRules, SSL offloading, and detailed traffic monitoring provide me with better control over application traffic. F5 also offers more advanced traffic management and better load balancing than alternatives like Citrix. The initial setup was very easy thanks to assistance from OEM and the vendor. What do you dislike about F5 BIG-IP Local Traffic Manager (LTM)?

I find the real-time local traffic logs unreliable. Currently, TCPDump is the only reliable source for inspecting traffic, but unfortunately, it does not provide real-time logs. Having real-time logs directly in the LTM interface would make troubleshooting easier and help identify traffic issues. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"SSL/TLS Control and Scalable Offloading with F5 BIG-IP LTM"
4.5/5
What do you like best about F5 BIG-IP Local Traffic Manager (LTM)?

On the F5 BIG-IP LTM module, the way it handles SSL/TLS certificate profiles is hard to beat. Managing custom root CA certificates under ca-bundle.crt through the TMOS command line feels robust and straightforward. It also scales well in high traffic environments and gives me granular control over SSL offloading that standard web servers simply can't match.

Beyond basic offloading, a lot of the value comes from combining it with advanced LTM features. With iRules I can manipulate headers and enforce specific TLS cipher versions at the edge before traffic ever reaches the backend server (pools). Also, configuring health monitors to check application status over secure ports helps maintain seamless persistence and avoid downtime during high-concurrency events. Overall, this setup makes it much easier to integrate our servers with the LTM module.

The API documentation is easy to find and use, which is helpful when integrating F5 with our own platform for automation. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about F5 BIG-IP Local Traffic Manager (LTM)?

While the F5 BIG-IP LTM module is incredibly stable, the classic web UI feels quite dated and can become noticeably sluggish when navigating extensive configuration objects, large node lists or certificate profiles. In addition, the platform has a steep learning curve, and the ASKF5 documentation portal can often feel overly complex when troubleshooting TLS handshake errors (especially with older legacy apps trying to force TLS 1.1).

From pricing and ROI perspective, the massive licensing and module casts makes it a heavy financial burden which is difficult to justify when developing instances for smaller staging environments.

Lastly regrading AI and Intelligence, the LTM module itself completely lack of out-of-the-box AI for predictive traffic analysis. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
