I have over 32,000 fonts cataloged on my iMac using Suitcase fusion and I have run into very few issues and it works flawlessly. Suitcase Fusion also integrates very well with the Adobe Creative Suite. It operates through a plug-in. **What do you dislike about Extensis Connect?** It can be buggy at times and if you have two versions of the same font, it will not activate them both. I suspect there is a reason for that, I just wanted to give you a heads up. **What problems is Extensis Connect solving and how is that benefiting you?** Font Auto-activation is a lifesaver. You will not have to open the software, it will "see" the fonts used in your creation and will know to automatically activate them so they show up. ### 4. Then they changed to a subscription model, and it suddenly became virtually useless. Every time I reboot my computer I have to open the application and deactivate, then reactivate fonts. This process takes several minutes because it's so slow to respond. Then I have to leave it open in the background, otherwise it stops working. An expensive disappointment. The idea that I would subscribe after my experience is laughable. **What problems is Extensis Connect solving and how is that benefiting you?** It's supposed to manage fonts but it mostly manages aggravation and regret. I've always loved being able to activate fonts from different services and organizing my fonts with their tools. **What do you dislike about Extensis Connect?** I've been a loyal fan and user for 14 years and even though it has always been a reliable platform for my fonts it been getting worse every year over the last few years. It is slow, riddled with bugs, and constantly crashes. I have a 2018 MacBook pro with more than enough ram and speed to have this program run as sluggish as it has this last iteration. I unfortunately cannot work with a program that does not work and meet the standards I expect for I pay for it. Much prefer suitcase over other competitors due to its well-made macOS app, it’s almost feels native. I particularly like the temporary activation feature, allowing font files to be activated on a short term basis, but they can also be activated permanently if you do so wish. **What do you dislike about Extensis Connect?** Sometimes indexing can be a bit on the slow side and when searching font files fail to show up. This is once in a blue moon however and the pros certainly outweigh the cons. **Recommendations to others considering Extensis Connect:** If you struggle to keep track of font files far various projects, this software allows you to organise and file away, you can then search the library by client/foundry/whatever you please. **What problems is Extensis Connect solving and how is that benefiting you?** Speeds up apps by not having to load up fonts every startup and doesn’t bloat the system full of large files. Allows me to organise my font files for easy access later on down the line. ### 13. But that hardly ever happens. **What do you dislike about Extensis Connect?** Very buggy. Suitcase V9 (the most recent) doesn't work with Adobe 2019 CC. Round and round I have gone with support and IT over the past thwo months being completely locked out of all of my design files. Support says "We can't replicate the issue" and that's about as far as they get. Just opening Fusion locks up my entire computer. The only way to get the use of my computer back is to uninstall the software. This all started very recently after a full year with minor issues (this happened once last year but was fixed relatively quickly on an update) **Recommendations to others considering Extensis Connect:** I would say find another font software but there aren't many out there to choose from, especially on a PC. At this point though, considering Fusion won't even work, just using windows fonts is an upgrade from this software. **What problems is Extensis Connect solving and how is that benefiting you?** None. They are causing more problems by giving me buggy software. ### 14. Some of my users have been at it for years and have thousands of fonts. Suitcase makes wrangling all of that very simple and easy for them with the auto-activation, as well as giving them an easy, attractive library to search through for font inspiration. **What do you dislike about Extensis Connect?** To update the app fully and correctly, it requires the user to be a local admin. This is a very poor security practice. To update Suitcase on my client machines, each update requires entering a local password. This is because the Suitcase updater does not update the respective Suitcase plugins.This is very frustrating as an admin who could be managing thousands of computers. The support staff is also very dismissive when asked about ways to deploy their software that doesn't require admin credentials to work properly. **Recommendations to others considering Extensis Connect:** Consider whether you can make do with standard Suitcase Fusion before looking to the very pricey more enterprise options. Also, make sure that Extensis is not planning to release a new version of Suitcase before you buy. Sometimes they will NOT do automatic upgrades if they release a new version shortly after a purchase. **What problems is Extensis Connect solving and how is that benefiting you?** Keeping track of our extensive font library as well as making them far more available than they would be if we just used the system font management. ### 15. Fusion works with applications to turn on fonts in a document when the document is opened, so having hundreds of fonts turned on at all times is not required. I also do not have to track locations for fonts on my machine or spend a lot of time organizing as Fusion archives all fonts in a "Vault". Accidental erasure of a font in a folder does not mean the font is lost forever. Manages all types of fonts including very old fonts and cloud based fonts. **What do you dislike about Extensis Connect?** In the latest version they changes the font view in Fusion itself, which makes it harder to find and preview fonts. Hopefully they are fixing that. **Recommendations to others considering Extensis Connect:** If you work cross platform and use Adobe CC products, this will make life a lot easier. **What problems is Extensis Connect solving and how is that benefiting you?** Easy access to my font library in all my applications all the time. It saves me a lot of computer overhead and I can work more quickly. ### 16. I've also ended up seeing browsers act a little odd with displays when fonts are turned on or off but that may be by virtue of poor CSS calls. **Recommendations to others considering Extensis Connect:** I'd like to see the text preview function a little more cleanly, sometimes when I go to type preview text (that doesn't accidentally have unicode or any odd characters in it) the entire display will blank out, notably if I'm within a sub folder. **What problems is Extensis Connect solving and how is that benefiting you?** As a web and print designer, the ability to sort all my fonts (and turn them on and off for client work so I don't have the memory hog of several hundred fonts running simultaneously) is fantastic. ### 18. I also like that it's easy to manage my fonts and turn them on and off as I wish instead of having all my fonts loaded into my computer and slowing it down. **What do you dislike about Extensis Connect?** I dislike the look of the latest version. It has a few glitches with my Adobe InDesign program that I'm still trying to work though. It's not auto-activating all the time. I also dislike that I have to purchase an upgrade every year or two. Typically, the upgrade happens when Adobe does an upgrade. They at least offer a discounted price, but it still is a hassle, but the biggest issue with that is that it just stops working properly. It doesn't really tell you that the new operating system or new Adobe version is no longer supported. So you have to call them to find out why your program no longer works correctly. **Recommendations to others considering Extensis Connect:** It's a great program. I used this program for over 5 years while working at printing companies and loved it so much that I bought it for my own personal laptop for my own projects. I've personally owned Suitcase versions 6, 7, and 8. I bought version 6 in 2015 and had to upgrade to version 7 in March 2017 and again had to upgrade to version 8 in October of 2017. The upgrade versions were half the price of the original each time. **What problems is Extensis Connect solving and how is that benefiting you?** This program makes my life easier and my computer faster. I've tried other font management programs while working at a printing company, but this was always my favorite and still is to this day. It's clean and easy to use. It shows samples of the fonts. It's easy to search fonts. There's different views you can see the fonts as alphabet and number samples, or you can type in your own text to see each font displayed. This is useful because there's often a certain set of letters or that I'm trying to search for while locating a font. You can also setup font sets, which is great if you have a particular client that you deal with or your own personal company. If you/they use 12 different fonts in their project, you can create a set and turn the set on whenever you work on their stuff. ### 19. The closest thing I've found to rival this product is the typekit withe adobe creative cloud. I like the way you can add Libraries and sets to that. It's lets you know when you have double conflicting fonts added. You can also add TT fonts and Mac fonts to same family. **What do you dislike about Extensis Connect?** I do not dislike anything in Suitcase Fusion **Recommendations to others considering Extensis Connect:** I would consider using this product than any other Font book. It is so easy to use and works great with Adobe products. You can store all your clients fonts in separate libraries with your customers name on the sets. Works great with all PC and Mac fonts **What problems is Extensis Connect solving and how is that benefiting you?** I can keep all my clients with separate library fonts for each client. I can add sets to different jobs, It makes jobs faster when I need to use just certain fonts that I have saved in each set. ### 21. It also allows you to organize fonts into collections, and search for similar fonts. **What do you dislike about Extensis Connect?** It's a bit buggy. To activate fonts, I have to close the program that I'm working in, activate the font in Suitcase, then reopen the program. This gets to be annoying at times. One reason that I purchased this software was the integration with Adobe products & auto font activation--however, I wasn't able to get it to work in version 4 or 5. **Recommendations to others considering Extensis Connect:** If you have a large number of fonts and don't want to have them all installed at once, this is a good utility, especially if you get the newest version (I am using version 5). I was never able to get the font auto-activation with Adobe products to work. It works as well as any other product for this resource possibly could. However, future iterations should have better syncing and setting memory capabilities. **What problems is Extensis Connect solving and how is that benefiting you?** We are a design agency and projects get formulated, edited and shared in numerous iterations across a multitude of platforms and devices/users. With the constant updating of Adobe Creative Cloud, non-uniformity in users' individual devices and server storage for all files, keeping a constantly correct catalogue of fonts and having those fonts appear properly in files and projects is an absolute necessity. ### 23.
