Running exams through also helps save time with grading as well. In addition, there are various monitoring functions that may be useful if one would want to ensure integrity during examinations. **What do you dislike about ExamSoft?** There are some hiccups that come up from time to time with exam administration, such as with questions with attached images. These inconsistencies are due to compatibility issues which kind of need to be ironed out at an individual user level which makes administering exams less fluid. **What problems is ExamSoft solving and how is that benefiting you?** Examplify helps simplify administering and grading exams, and while providing the tools to specifically construct an effective exam. ### 3. For example, you can strike through answers you know are wrong and flag questions to come back to. Some wait times exist, but students and administrators usually find the support line extremely helpful. 4-Response to customer needs. They listen to what we need the software to do and try to really understand the challenges we face in our settings. 5-The rubrics feature is outstanding! **What do you dislike about ExamSoft?** ExamSoft continues to improve the user experience for students and administrators. Some difficulty with earlier versions of the student platform freezing during exams lingers, but I've seen vast improvements recently. The administrator portal has some kinks to be worked out, and communication from the team at ExamSoft has been that many of those are being worked on currently. **What problems is ExamSoft solving and how is that benefiting you?** We're using ExamSoft to deliver secure, high-stakes examinations and more frequent, low-stakes quizzes to students on our higher education campus. The testing platform allows us to test large groups of students at one time. More importantly, the data we're collecting about student performance is informing efforts toward quality improvement and providing students with better feedback about their progress in a course or program. ### 6. The students may not all begin the test at the same time depending on the amount of time the exam takes to load through the software on the individual computers. **Recommendations to others considering ExamSoft:** Be considerate of the fact that each computer runs the software at a different speed. The software should be tested on each individual computer before used for an exam or other purpose. Hold a practice assignment to allow users to get comfortable with the easy-to-use application and understand the features that are available to them to use (ex: calculator, flagging questions, countdown timer, etc). Also, closing down all open browsers prior to loading the assignment/exam through exemplify will decrease the time needed for the application to load. **What problems is ExamSoft solving and how is that benefiting you?** Academic testing for online proctored exams and online exams in class. Allows for instructors to test student knowledge without the threat of students accessing outside browsers or sources for information. ### 9. Fairly easy to navigate and use. I like the colors used and the intuitiveness of the program. I like the amount of features it has to mimic a word processing type of application which helps in testing environments. I also liked how modern the whole application felt. **What do you dislike about ExamSoft?** User friendly, however it doesn't feel as if it's solid. Meaning that there are a few instances of delay or lag that makes the overall user interface feel a little less than reliable. Also when the program initiates and limits the Wi-Fi capability it feels as if the whole app is going to crash, in a testing environment this is a little worrisome although nothing adverse ended up happening. **Recommendations to others considering ExamSoft:** Keep up with Apple OS updates please! It can create instances where students cannot utilize the program. **What problems is ExamSoft solving and how is that benefiting you?** Simple testing interface. Allows even limited computer users to use effectively. It is a good way to implement a uniform testing environment with an interface that users can grow to learn and navigate fairly easily. It’s easy to add attachments to each question. It also provides a notes section for students to jot down their thoughts on each question (super helpful for when you review your answers). **What do you dislike about ExamSoft?** Could be more user friendly. It is also a breeze to generate reports for student grades and the analytics for the exam questions. **What do you dislike about ExamSoft?** So far, there has been very minimal issues with this software. It can take some time to load an exam on a student's computer. Examplify will sometimes crash or freeze requiring the laptop to be rebooted. **Recommendations to others considering ExamSoft:** It is a great program that is constantly being updated to meet new OS requirements. The technical support is great and very friendly. They solve any issues that come up very quickly which is great when your students are in the middle of an exam! **What problems is ExamSoft solving and how is that benefiting you?** It's a great tool to give student exams in a secure environment where it locks down the rest of the computer and prevents cheating. It makes it very easy to instantly grade tests and review question performance for improvements. ### 15. It has the basic features you need to take a timed exam - clock, stop watch, etc. Spell check is hard to find (as a student taking the exam). It's better than nothing. **What do you dislike about ExamSoft?** Two words: IT CRASHES! The software frequently freezes up. You may have heard about the issues Illinois faced when using ExamSoft to administer its Bar Exam in 2014 (everyone's stuff froze, the system was not able to support everyone uploading their exams at once). I'd say that years later in 2018, it still has a ways to go because the crashes are still happening. This software is also not the most user-friendly, and is pretty bare bones for the price we paid. **Recommendations to others considering ExamSoft:** My recommendation is to choose another software. Our law school utilized ExamSoft for a while, but due to many technical difficulties switched to Exam4. There have been fewer issues with using Exam4. **What problems is ExamSoft solving and how is that benefiting you?** As previously mentioned, it's better than nothing, but not the best software on the market for administering exams. I wish it had better features to ensure your exam answers were safe, and that it wouldn't crash. From my experience, ExamSoft has caused just as many problems as it has helped with. ### 16. We use the platform on iPads and the compatibility is better than on a personal laptop. Another wonderful aspect is that its so user friendly. **What do you dislike about ExamSoft?** There are many updates to the software that can hard to maintain with the number of iPads we have. Sometimes students have an older version where a bug may not have been fixed. **What problems is ExamSoft solving and how is that benefiting you?** The huge benefit is the streamlined standardized testing. I get helpful and useful statistics about exam performance which helps to improve the quality of examinations I administer. It's also very easy to use and intuitive. **What do you dislike about ExamSoft?** The only thing I dislike about it is that it doesn't have a way to preview exam questions in the screen where all exam questions are listed. That means I have to remember the content of the question based off of the title I gave it, and I have to be careful to give unique titles to help jog my memory. **Recommendations to others considering ExamSoft:** This is a great product for taking care of all aspects of examinations, from creating exams, to administering them, to grading them and providing feedback to students, to analyzing question performance. The software is so easy to use, and I highly recommend it. I have not heard any complaints from students, either. **What problems is ExamSoft solving and how is that benefiting you?** ExamSoft allows me to create, administer, grade, and analyze examinations for my graduate students. The biggest benefit is saving me time and work in grading the exam. Another tremendous benefit is that the software also allows administration of the exam to the students in a secure manner. ### 23. Often this can lead to crashes with the software. Also it would be great to have an internal spell check function. **What problems is ExamSoft solving and how is that benefiting you?** It is extremely problematic when the software shuts down or freezes. This happens within a few hours of using the software. This can freeze the entire computer because there is no functional way to close out of the software, so all you can do is a hard shut down of your computer which could further complicate matters. ### 24. It also allows you to link class objectives to exam questions so you are able to see if the students have met all the objectives and where they are struggling. The individualized scoring report is also a good idea to show students what they missed and where they need to improve. **What do you dislike about ExamSoft?** ExamSoft is not very easy to use. There are multiple steps that you need to go through in order for you to be successful. In addition, sometimes the server is down and students are not able to take their exams. The software is also prone to crashing, causing both students and teachers great distress when students need to begin their examination from the beginning. **Recommendations to others considering ExamSoft:** This software can be difficult to use, particularly on apple products. Your institution will require someone who is quite computer savvy to assist MacBook users with the installation process.
