## About Exalate
Exalate is a bidirectional synchronization solution that enables teams to sync data in real time between work management and ITSM tools – across departments, companies, and organizational boundaries. It connects systems like Jira, ServiceNow, Salesforce, Azure DevOps, Zendesk, Freshservice, Freshdesk, Asana, and more. Template-based sync tools work for predefined mappings but break when requirements get specific. iPaaS solutions handle orchestration across systems but add complexity and operational overhead at scale. Custom-built integrations offer control but drain resources on maintenance. Exalate sits in between: a Groovy-based scripting engine that handles any sync logic you can define, combined with a console that gives you visibility into what's running across all your connections. Teams that need operational control and flexibility for advanced cross-team or cross-company scenarios – without unpredictable costs – are the primary audience. Key capabilities: Side-by-side configuration: View and edit both sides of any connection in one screen – scripts, sync queues, and errors for each system displayed together. No need to switch between instances or coordinate with the other party to understand what's happening. Real-time bidirectional sync: Sync issues, tickets, incidents, comments, statuses, custom fields, and attachments. Scripts remain separated by direction (incoming/outgoing) for precise control. Test Run: Validate sync scripts and configuration changes before they affect production data. Preview outcomes, then publish when confident. Aida (AI assistant): Get help understanding existing scripts, designing changes, and troubleshooting sync errors – while humans stay in control. Outcome-based pricing: Pay for active work items in sync, not user seats or transaction volumes. Exalate is used by IT teams, integration administrators, DevOps engineers, and operations managers running cross-tool and cross-company integrations – from straightforward team-level syncs to complex multi-party environments with governance requirements. Trusted by 2,500+ organizations worldwide and 200+ partners. ISO 27001 certified. Over a decade in production.

## Exalate Reviews
 ### 1. Exalate Keeps AssessPrep and Jira Perfectly Aligned with Flexible Sync Rules

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Rohit Y. | Sr. Software Developer, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 09, 2026

**What do you like best about Exalate?**

At AssessPrep, we manage assessments, question banks, and academic workflows on our platform, while our product team works in Jira. Exalate helped connect both systems without forcing either team to change how they work. The flexibility of the synchronization rules made it possible to keep assessment-related requests and development tasks aligned.

**What do you dislike about Exalate?**

Initial setup takes some effort, especially if your workflow is customized. We needed technical input to configure everything correctly, and troubleshooting advanced sync scenarios can be challenging.

**What problems is Exalate solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Before Exalate, when a client reported an issue with an assessment or requested a feature through AssessPrep, updates had to be manually communicated to the product team in Jira. Now information flows automatically between both systems, reducing manual follow-ups and helping teams stay on the same page.

 ### 2. Secure, Decentralized Jira Sync Across Organizations

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Brian Y. | DevOps Systems Engineer, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 12, 2026

**What do you like best about Exalate?**

I really appreciate the decentralized architecture. It allows us and our partner to maintain full control over our own Jira environments. We don't have to give them admin access to our system, and they don't have to give us theirs. It’s the most secure and professional way to sync tasks across different organizations and versions of Jira (Cloud and Server).

**What do you dislike about Exalate?**

The initial configuration can be time-consuming, especially when bridging different versions of Jira (Cloud vs. On-prem). Because both sides of the connection need to be configured separately to maintain security, it requires a lot of coordination with the partner's admin. This can be challenging when working across different time zones, as any small tweak to the sync logic usually requires verification from both parties

**What problems is Exalate solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Exalate is solving the critical challenge of synchronizing our Jira Cloud instance with a partner’s on-premise Server. The biggest benefit has been overcoming the timezone gap; because Exalate uses an asynchronous queuing system, our teams stay aligned even when we aren't working at the same time. This has saved us hours of manual updates and coordination meetings. The scripting flexibility also allows us to handle the complex field mapping required for our technical projects, giving us a reliable, automated bridge between two very different environments.

 ### 3. Syncs Jira and GitHub with Ease, But Needs Better Text Rendering

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** PP B.

**Reviewed Date:** October 31, 2025

**What do you like best about Exalate?**

I value Exalate for its ability to synchronize Jira issues with GitHub issues seamlessly, which is crucial in maintaining consistency between the private and public project views. This synchronization ensures that my team can focus their daily work within Jira while simultaneously providing visibility to our community and supported customers on GitHub, where they do not have direct access to Jira. Additionally, I admire the basic setup process, which is straightforward and allows for quick implementation, facilitating efficient initial deployment. Furthermore, after evaluating multiple vendors, I concluded that Exalate was the superior choice, confirming its effectiveness in fulfilling our specific needs.

**What do you dislike about Exalate?**

I find advanced scripting in Exalate challenging, especially when trying to implement more complex functionalities. Despite contacting support, I had issues syncing Jira fixversion with GitHub milestone, which required more than 50 lines of code and stopped working after a few months, leading to frustration and me eventually giving up on it. Additionally, I am not satisfied with the text rendering between Jira and GitHub, which I feel needs improvement.

**What problems is Exalate solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Exalate allows my team to focus on Jira for daily work while giving visibility on GitHub to the community and supported customers, who can't access Jira since GitHub is open source.

 ### 4. Works pretty good

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Michele P. | International Support Specialist - English, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 30, 2022

**What do you like best about Exalate?**

It really helps to cut down on repetitive work by automatically creating the Jira ticket from Zendesk.

We have Exalate in our Zendesk support ticketing and use it with Jira.

**What do you dislike about Exalate?**

Exalate tends to go down randomly pretty often. Never for very long, but just long enough to ask colleagues, "Anyone else having issues?" you get a few yesses and then it's working again.

**What problems is Exalate solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It cuts down having to enter ticket information in multiple places by doing it for us. It also allows the technicians to reply to Support via Jira, since they never access ZD (nor have any reason to).

 ### 5. Great add-on to create integration between Jira and Jira

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Information Technology and Services | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 27, 2022

**What do you like best about Exalate?**

Easy to start using, you can create the first version very quickly and see the results.

Great support

**What do you dislike about Exalate?**

No filtering options in connections/triggers

When updating connections the order of connections in the list is changed and it's challenging to follow up on what connection you already updated and what is still left.

Error messages are console messages and users without experience can't easily understand what's the error about.

**What problems is Exalate solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Our customer did need to copy tickets from JSM-project to "Development"-project(s) based on different criterias. With Exalate we can easily create separate configurations with simple UI.

 ### 6. I have actually no friends who could need Exalate - I don't know any other JIRA users ;)

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Computer Software | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 11, 2022

**What do you like best about Exalate?**

It is a good representation of our desired use case. I like the option of being able to configure the app via scripting.
I don't know any competitors so I can't do a comparison here :)

**What do you dislike about Exalate?**

We often get unexplainable issues that can be resolved by clicking "Resolve and retry" once without any other action. I wished that if a sync fails Exalate automatically retries it once after some delay so there is no need that a JIRA admin clicks the button.

**Recommendations to others considering Exalate:**

The support is great and if you are a talented Groovy coder you can for sure do cool things.
It is recommended to work with static typeing when writing sync scripts.
Please also note that the Connect option does not fire the sync scripts again - this is an important "need to know, else you may run into a trap".

**What problems is Exalate solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Copying this from ticket in helpdesk:

our use case is as follows:
We do have an external JIRA which acts as helpdesk for our clients.
We do have an internal JIRA which acts as issue tracker for our developers.

This setup has been chosen because we did not want to open our internal JIRA to the world since it can include confidential data.

If a client reports a bug we do not yet have in our issue tracker we use Exalate to clone the ticket into an internal issue that we then update with some additional information manually.
If now further clients also report the same issue we will connect their tickets to the existing internal issue.
These process is done because we have various automation to inform the clients in the ticket about the progress of their cases based on the status of the internal issue.
So the use case in a nutshell is to connect customer tickets to internal issues (retrospectively).

 ### 7. Exalate review

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Fayçal K. | Azure Cloud Infrastructure Engineer, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 21, 2022

**What do you like best about Exalate?**

the automation feature, when you change the status of the ticket in Jira instance A the status is mapped manually or automatically.

**What do you dislike about Exalate?**

nothing, everything works well for us...

**Recommendations to others considering Exalate:**

try it and you will see the difference

**What problems is Exalate solving and how is that benefiting you?**

sync the issues between different instances and this is beneficial for us, we are more productive and our performance has increased

 ### 8. mixed feelings about it

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Bing S. | engineer, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 09, 2022

**What do you like best about Exalate?**

Synchronized data is more friendly, official support is more timely

**What do you dislike about Exalate?**

1. frequently encounter error pages stuck inaccessible.
2. It is difficult for non-staff to get started.
3. Guidance documents are not written in a friendly way

**What problems is Exalate solving and how is that benefiting you?**

How to clean up the tasks inside the sync queue

 ### 9. A very specific tool that does the job

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Simeon C. | Infrastructure Systems Engineer, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 28, 2021

**What do you like best about Exalate?**

It works! Relatively low effort to get it started, and it's worked well since. Support are helpful too.

**What do you dislike about Exalate?**

It does need a fair bit of tuning in order to get it just the way you want it, which is not unexpected, but can be frustrating.

**What problems is Exalate solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We wanted reporting and analysis of developers working in Kanban/Azure Devops whilst also being able to assign them tickets from the main Jira workflow. Before, devs would have to swap back and forth between Jira and Kanban, and both of them had different information.
This way, the developers never have to leave the safety of Kanban, there's WAY less work being done to duplicate and assign tickets, and we were able to save some $$ on Jira licenses that we didn't need.

 ### 10. Great support!

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Thomas G. | Customer Architetc, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 25, 2021

**What do you like best about Exalate?**

Reasonably quick and effective help. Support agent had good expertise. CSM was attentive

**What do you dislike about Exalate?**

The app itself is rather counterintuitive

**What problems is Exalate solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Escalating issues from ZD to GitHub for engineering visibility

 ### 11. Good but still lacking documentation, debugging and faster UI

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Logistics and Supply Chain | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 01, 2021

**What do you like best about Exalate?**

The synchronization and ability to script during the sync.

**What do you dislike about Exalate?**

There are a lacks of options to debug our script and test.

**What problems is Exalate solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Synchro from Jira To Azd

 ### 12. Excellent tool for managed services providers

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Amr H. | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 30, 2020

**What do you like best about Exalate?**

- Simplicity in initial setup
- Enables creating advanced complex synchronizations through Groovy scripting
- Useful error handling
- Triggers use JQL which is flexible and jira user friendly

**What do you dislike about Exalate?**

Lack of granularity in permissions configuration. The Exalate buttons are either available for all users or none at all.
Also the same thing applies to the errors notifications. They are either sent to the whole admins group or none at all.

**What problems is Exalate solving and how is that benefiting you?**

- Receiving requirements from customers
- Enabling the customer to progress on requirements
- Communication
- Synchronizing internal projects

 ### 13. Overall Feedback for Exalate

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Deniz T. | Information Technology Consultant, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 13, 2020

**What do you like best about Exalate?**

Integration with many systems and being able to track everything on the connected jira.

**What do you dislike about Exalate?**

Keeping Track of things done by Exalate in History is hard. It could be that Every History entry is tagged or shown on another panel.
There is too much script work to do. It is not usable by a business person.

**Recommendations to others considering Exalate:**

It is a business requirement to integrate with other systems. But using plugins like this means you have to maintain a team for exalate configurations and administration. In my case, I have integrated Jira with another Jira on a company I am consultant of and it is hard to imagine things going smoothly without me or other consultants. It is pretty stable as it is but new requirements will always be coming.

**What problems is Exalate solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Integrating 2 different companies Jira project. So that each company can stay in it's shell and don't have to login to another company's jira.

 ### 14. Exalate is great to use if you need to use it

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Anny D. | Film Producer, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 08, 2020

**What do you like best about Exalate?**

Being able to sync issues with other connections and having Exalate support there to help when things go wrong.

**What do you dislike about Exalate?**

The amount of errors that can go wrong. There are so many different types of issues that can happen.

**What problems is Exalate solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Syncing between a cloud and server instance. The benefits are that it works. But you must check for syncing errors every day and it can become a very tedious task.

 ### 15. Useful tool

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Program Development | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 07, 2020

**What do you like best about Exalate?**

Valuable support with quick responses to any question.

**What do you dislike about Exalate?**

Bugs in new released versions. Several times was necessary to downgrade to previous version.

**What problems is Exalate solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Connection between two Jira insrtances - Cloud for customers and local Server for development and testing.

 ### 16. It's a very flexible tool.

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Computer Software | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 02, 2020

**What do you like best about Exalate?**

Ιs very flexible in tool synchronization and the support is very good

**What do you dislike about Exalate?**

The documentation is not very helpful. I need more instructions for sync cases.

**What problems is Exalate solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The fields synchronization between two tools.

 ### 17. Syncing as easy as 1-2-3

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Information Technology and Services | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 11, 2020

**What do you like best about Exalate?**

Fast set-up, very flexible, great and fast support

**What do you dislike about Exalate?**

Maybe too flexible? There are many options for customizing the sync. Technical knowledge is required and therefore in some cases depending on the community or support.

**What problems is Exalate solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Easy connection between public and private Jira instance. Faster collaboration between teams.

 ### 18. hard to manage but powerful

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Computer Software | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 12, 2019

**What do you like best about Exalate?**

nearly endless possibilities by processor scripting

**What do you dislike about Exalate?**

hard to maintain and debug the processor scripts

**Recommendations to others considering Exalate:**

Only dive in to this when you have resource for setup. If so It would help to save a lot of resource in the administration side

**What problems is Exalate solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We need to sync the issues with our partner back and forth (they raise the issue, we resolve)
