When things demand a web-based solution that is created to work with web-based applications you have a perfect place to go: Exago. The company, regardless of its size, will benefit from their self-service ad hoc, interactive dashboard abilities, and operational reporting. You can blend data obtained from a variety of sources such as SQL Server, MySQL, PostgreSQL, Informix and more. With a simple drag and drop option you are able to create and build reports and other reports as well as schedule and merge reports. There was great ease of use, data security, product support, and flexibility. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
There were error messages that would come up when using it in a distributed model and this would create its own challenges. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
After having tested several other leading embedded BI platforms we were convinced that Exago satisfies many of our requirements. Some of my favorite items are:
- Native support for multitenancy via a wide variety of patterns.
- Flexible user, roles, and permissions management, both via UI and API.
- Excellent exporting capabilities into Excel (better than all the platforms we have tested).
- User interface is comfortable and modern, and while not sporting super sexy visualizations, they are always improving.
- Easily embeddable as an iframe or a direct page, with a lot of flexibility on styling and theming.
- Great scheduling capabilities, by far surpassing the SSRS user experience.
- Convenient and straightforward pricing methodology, with a predictive cost that does not depend upon variables such as users, customers, servers, etc.
- Multiple releases throughout the year, so bugs usually don't stay in the system too long after being discovered.
- Great webinars and "advanced users" labs every few weeks, covering non-trivial use cases.
- Exago does not impose its storage or persistence mechanisms upon the hosting platform. The implementer gets to decide how everything is stored, if you'd like to scale or change beyond the "stock" options. This is both an advantage and a hindrance, depending on far you'd like to take the system.
- And last but certainly not least, there is a phenomenal and passionate team standing behind the product. I really cannot stress how important this is for this kind of product. You will be amazed at how quickly they can adapt their "language" to your line of business and usually help you within a couple of hours do things that might take you a lot longer. The post-sale experience is as good as the pre-sale and the handoff throughout the sale process is very smooth. It is exceptionally uncommon in this industry and I hope that others take notice. - Do not be fooled by the simplicity of what you see. It is not going to be a walk in the park, especially if your SaaS has many hundreds of different tables, types of users, and lots of conflicting use-cases. You absolutely need to have a strong, business oriented and a fairly technical person (or team) that will spearhead this implementation. Exago's tremendous flexibility is also a source of its complexities. You need to get into the weeds in order to determine what is best for your environment, and it is often not trivial. Be prepared for some learning curve, but if you dedicate an honest effort, you will see that it is very doable to have excellent results in relatively short time.
- Although the documentation is very good, you need to have a clear plan on how to "map" your environment to the Exago landscape and have a clear set of links in the documentation with which you need to become intimately familiar. We were largely unsuccessful in our deployment until we did just that. However, once we invested a little bit of brainpower into this process, we had started gaining tremendous momentum and now the project is a major success.
- The cross tabs (pivot) reports are lacking some computational features, but there are always improvements in this area and they are always welcome. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Application administrators (configuration interface): Exago provides in a great way to dynamically design BI overviews by making use of the Analytics designer.
End user (end user interface): The widgets offer a great deal of customisation (even after designing the widgets ) to tailor a specific information view to the needs of our customers.
Integration (technical): The functionality offered can be easily plugged in any third party application. A wide range of tools in the Exago BI toolbox will be offered as an out of the box solution in which the DataObject structure abstraction is key to communicate to the backend Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Relation between dataobjects and the configuration file.
In out business case we make use of a dynamic database schema so on-forehand it is not possible to create the dataobject and store them (statically) in a configuration file. The trade off is that the Dataobjects need to be created on the fly which makes integration performance heavy. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Ease of use, customization capabilities, features that span reporting, self service features, visualization, analytics in one platform, customer support Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
There are some features that are not yet available. They have been brought up to Exago's attention and are in plan to be added. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
- We have a great working relationship with Exago. They listen to our needs and help us to solve issues. Response time via their online support system is great. And when we've run into issues, they devote the time or resources needed to resolve them.
- They release new features several times a year - the product is always changing and becoming more feature-rich.
- Exago allows us to provide canned reports to address our customers' common reporting needs AND give them the power to create their own reports.
- We decide and control when we will take a new release of the Exago software.
- We were able to customize the display so that customers using the German and Spanish versions of our software see it in their native language rather than English. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Our data set is very large so response time in opening and running reports is a little slower than we'd like. Exago informed us that an upcoming release will contain performance enhancements that should address these issues. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
The flexibility that Exago offers for every skill level. Our client base runs the spectrum as far as technical skill. Exago offers an option for everyone, no matter their skill level, to build reports and gain valuable insights into their event data.
The easy to use ExpressView widget allows users with little BI skills to quickly build ad-hoc reports. The Advance Report builder as well as the Dashboard designer offer advanced users the freedom and flexibility to thoroughly analyze and organize their event data to deliver valuable KPIs to their stakeholders.
The report designer offers everything our clients need to completely design the look and feel of reports and dashboards to match their organization's brand guidelines. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
There really isn't anything that I dislike about using Exago. It's a great tool! Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Exago's configurability and array of options have made it a great asset to our end users. We have found Exago to be a powerful reporting tool for our product's many data points. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Exago's date range filter is a bit challenging for our users. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
This tool was designed to be embedded. It fit well into our existing architecture and offered a quick path for use to offer advanced reporting and dashboard functionality. Working with the Exago team has been great. They are very responsive and helpful in guiding the implementation and resolving issues. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Error reporting when working through setup can be difficult. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Ease of use for our customers
Easy integration with our application security
Easy to deploy Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
The speed of the dashboards was slow but that has been resolved in the latest version Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Our SaaS platform has over 400 built-in reports but customers were asking for the ability to create their own reports. We integrated Exam into our platform so that admins click once to open a new tab in their browser, and all the features of Exago are immediately available to them, using the filtered data sources that we built. The tool is incredibly powerful, including Express Reports, Advanced Reports, Crosstabs, Dashboards, charts with drill-down, and Chained reports. Exago support has been responsive and their documentation and videos are excellent. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
There are no real dislikes. This is a complex and powerful product, the equal of any of the more well-known Business Intelligence products out there. It has been overwhelming for some of our non-technical users. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
The support team and technical resource really helped us understand the differences between the various versions and how each upgrade would benefit and affect us. Gave us tips and best practice advise on managing objects and folders, which helped us properly plan our going forward strategies.
We needed a platform that could excite our clients with dynamic dashboards and configurable reports that could be auto-distributed. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Accessing a knowledge base or community forum Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Exago comes with a lot of extensibilty options thus you can tailor the product to fit your way of how you are building your product rather than being forced to use a rigidily built software. Very good option for embedding into a software product.
Building new reports and dashboards is super fast and super easy, it is a very user friendly tool. Exago Support is super great, they are quick to respond and get back on questions and resolving issues. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Very large data can take some time to load up within Exago, perhaps no different than other reporting or BI solutions. There are some provided options that do allow you to work past this such as caching of data. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
We've been using Exago for a little over 5 years embedded in our software application. The solution allow us and our customers to build intelligence that helps to understand as well as drive business objectives. User interface is easy to use which helps in creating content very quickly. Absolutely love the real-time data analytics interactive dashboards that can be created as well as the standard reporting. User interface can be picked up quickly which is a real treat. Their website has a ton of training materials including how to videos, podcasts, etc... and the support team has been phenomenal. I'd highly recommend this solution to others. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
I've had a great experience this Exago, so really not a negative that I can think of at this time. I do recommend that users review the Exago website for training videos to understand the types of information and reports you can generate with this solution. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
There are so many things that are right, I don't know where to begin. From the first sales call to onboarding, it was great. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
No complaints. I couldn't have asked for a better experience. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
The inheritence of security profile from the HRIS which make it easy to apply proper user capabilities for employee, manager and SME portal. The possibility to use a myriad of reference formulas in cells of columns and rows such as in Excel which could be suppressed (hidden), increases the capacity and makes effecient the control and validation of HR KPI's.The scheduler is another feature I like and which we use to automatically send predefined reports in Excel to specific recipients in a specific frequency and date. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
The absence of an - check All / uncheck All - option in the filters. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
The feature rich reporting, seamless integration, excellent knowledge base and top class customer support. There is a really nice vibe from this company which makes you want to be part of their experience. What I really like is the combination of great people, product and energy. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Not very much, if anything the main problem is keeping up with the releases. It's hard to fit in an upgrade into our regular release pattern. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
I have been much impressed by both the business and tech support provided by Exago. They are not just very knowledgeable about their platform, they are also a friendly bunch who take the time to understand the nature of your issues.
They are very keen to understand how their platform is used within our product and how they can improve matters to make the integration easier. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Not exactly a dislike but the .NET API documentation could do with some more usage scenarios. All the bits and bobs are there but some help with getting them together for advanced use cases would be great. I guess this is not easy due to the different needs of the client environments. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
We love how Exago has revolutionized the reporting capabilities that we can provide to our customers. The platform allows us to get our customers the information and data out of our platform in the formats they need. I like how it is powerful enough to provide many things that make their jobs easier and their use of our product more efficient and worthwhile. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Exago is very difficult to learn and is not very intuitive. I have difficulty understanding how to create certain types of reports and it has also been hard to teach our customers how to be successful on their own and to be independent of our support. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Customer engagement team is awesome. Quick to answer questions (always same-day) and will always find a solution. There are a lot of documentation available as well for self-help. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Product is tricky and foreign at first touch. Be ready to think and read a lot to become familiar, it will get the job done. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Our company started using Exago about 1 year ago. I have worked with them to create custom reports and I am very happy with the results. I worked with Nick and he is amazing. He is quick to understand our requirements, make suggestions to make the report better and meets the deadlines. He provides excellent communication during the creation of the reports and is always very positive. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
I find the learning curve steep but that might just be me. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
After reviewing many reporting solutions we found Exago to be the closest match to our requirements. While the many of the others had great modelling and the outputs looked great in the demos the control that the end user actually had from a presentation perspective was quite limited. Ease of use vs functional capability. I think Exago gets the mix just right and even the Express View reports can be surprisingly useful. The recent dashboard update is a great enhancement too.
Exago very flexible from a date model perspective and has certainly simplified the way that we present information to our users, we did have some teething problems but these have been overcome. It has been relatively quick to implement and the extensiblity through server events is really useful too.
It has certainly gone a long way towards solving the usability issues and the level of technical knowledge required to build reports in our previous solution. Looking forward to working with Exago for many years to come.
Nick Cortina deserves a special mention, the training sessions were excellent, very grateful for all the effort that you put in. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
The Advanced report designer looks a little outdated now compared to the look and feel of the Express View. I do wish that the whole of the data model could be presented in the Advanced report designer while you're building the reports as it is with Express View without the need to manually add each part in, this would make the report design experience much simpler, particularly where categories are linked and you need to add them in sequentially. Export to PowerPoint would make a lot of our customers happy. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
