Open source ILS means we can create workflows and UX in ways that benefit our patrons in a variety of ways, as well as integrate applications that we hadn't expected prior. Circulation Clerk Libraries Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.) 1/22/2019 "Evergreen is the best!!" 4.5/5 What do you like best about Evergreen ILS? I love how user friendly it is. It usually have quick search results, and its easy to learn. Also that you can have administration duties and cataloger duties. You can easily edit your patrons information, delete them or put notes on their account without constantly typing passwords. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com. What do you dislike about Evergreen ILS? Takes forever to load, and freezes a lot. I also don't like how you have to type everything in Capitals when deleting books, I wish it would have a close enough option that would pull up titles for you to choose. Evergreen is a fully functional piece of software, that includes a surprising number of features. It excels at basic library circulation and cataloging tasks. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com. What do you dislike about Evergreen ILS? Due to the open-source nature of the software, and the "free form" nature of it's development, it has frequent glitches, bugs, and other coding related issues. One persistent issue through all versions is an issue with accumulation of operating processes in active memory, such that when first started, the software uses about 50-75 mb of active memory...but by the end of a long day, the program may be using as much as a gb, or more, of the PCs active memory. With newer computers that's not an issue, but on older machines, such as those commonly found in many smaller, poorer, typically rural libraries, that may be the majority of the active memory...essentially "breaking" the computer, and requiring a restart to clear the freeze that frequently happens under those circumstances. Recommendations to others considering Evergreen ILS: If you like the Triple I Millenium-style interface, but want to lower costs, Evergreen ILS is certainly a contender. Please consider the possibility of the issue of design flaws when exploiting open-source software before making the switch! Review collected by and hosted on G2.com. Evergreen was selected because it met the operating needs of the library system I work in, and was similar enough to our previous vendor's software visually and functionally to make the transition relatively simple.
