ArcGIS does include many comprehensive features that you may need - basemaps, plotting ability, analysis capability, etc. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
The user face is extremely dated. Additionally, the features are not intuitive or easy to pick up. I would say that this software is not accessible by a new learner. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
It produces nice maps. Now it can connect to ArcGIS online. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
The technical barrier is high to use it. Also, the interface of the ArcGIS map is pretty outdated. Sometimes, it takes a long time to solve a simple issue. The FAQ section needs to be easier to use. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
ArcGIS is a necessary software tool if you need to work with spatial data for analysis or presentation Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
It is hard to learn, not user friendly, and the GUI leads to slow work processes. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
I love the ease in which I can pull maps and comps into one single executive summary report. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
As an ESRI administrator, managing my licenses and user stats can be quite confusing especially with them always changing the platforms. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
User interface, pop-up descriptions of tool icons Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Support in the past several years is less user friendly and accessible. It is not easy to find topics on the older software, and all efforts are directed toward on-line products. Our small rural county does not have resources to employ these products, and there are many, many users out here that are in the same situation. The very helpful forums are obsolete or hidden from access. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
The capabilities include a vast range of everything one may think of in urban studies and planning. From real time information to data collection and management, the advanced mechanisms are truly impressive and informative. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
At the same time, there are too many features for a beginning user to navigate. For example, if one simply needs an aerial image, for example, they could instead utilize simpler and free software such as Google Earth. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
The product is easy to learn and use even for beginners. There are wide variety of tools to address many different problems. It is the most widely used Geographic Information System software, hence there are several tutorials and help available online. The large user community is always there to back up questions you may have on different forums, apart from ESRI's own free training materials. Spatial analysis capabilities are top notch. ArcOnline is gaining popularity and the simplicity is attracting more users. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Cost - not practical from a developing countries' perspective and the high cost nullifies the benefits it provide, when compared to many open source GIS software available today. It is not the best when it comes to analysis satellite imagery. The software is also quite heavy, to run on a old machine with less RAM could be challenging. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
If you know this program well, you can do a lot with it - this includes simple map making to advanced spatial analyses. Lots of industries use this software, from Architecture and Urban Planning to the Police Department to UPS and Fedex. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
The challenge is knowing how to use the software. The learning curve is quite steep to do simple tasks, and even steeper to do advanced tasks. Often times, staff will need to attend a training class or program to become comfortable enough to use this software on their own. The UX is also not very great, and not intuitive at all - same goes for designing a map once you've created it (often you'll need to export to Illustrator to pretty it up).
Warning - this program ONLY works on WINDOWS OS (not Mac). Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Intuitive tools, great for beginners to use. Easy to understand interface Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
The interface is a little slow for advanced computing and analysis. Python or other programming languages are slightly easier Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
It gets the job done and it is a transferable skill from many jobs. It can create incredibly precise analysis if deployed correctly. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
To use GIS, you need to take a class with Dana Tomlin to get it (lucky that I did). Also without the use of Arcpy, running complex tasks with Model Builder is awful. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Ability to update maps with the latest information from our TV trucks, and integration with other ArcGIS installations. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Challenges with integrating assets from other software because of the map standards. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
I predominately use ArcMap and for my needs it serves as a great GIS for styling, querying and outputting of data.
The interface is clean and the range of tools is expansive and varied.
You are able to export to a variety of formats the most notable for me being an illustrator file (ai). It also keeps your layers which is a big plus for me.
ArcMap also works with MaPublisher which is a great tool for if you want to work with georeferenced data within Adobe Illustrator. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
What annoys me the most about ArcGIS is its inability to handle large data sets. This is certainly an area I would like to see improved.
ArcMap is also unable to load, directly, all GIS data formats which means translation of your data is needed before you can use your data within ArcMap something which can cost money.
Of course the most notable dislike of ArcGIS is the cost ££££!!!!! Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
All the Analysis functions are fantastic. Business Analyst is great. I'm confident that the measurements are correct, and pleased that there are so many different functions. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
The bugs. Such as having to restart the whole program in order to run BA demos if I have changed the layout. Or if all I'm dealing with is annotations, and each one takes 10 seconds to load or move. I do a lot of real maps and use the drawing tool for annotations a lot. I'm really sick of having to wait so long for moving a word or picture around. Also adding pictures and logos to the map can be either quick and easy, or slow and time consuming. The business I'm in needs things done faster, and I'm about to use another program for those sorts of jobs. My computer is new and has the proper specs. So it's not that. It's ESRI. It is a powerful software allowing for analysis of great overlapping and proximity analyses. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
It is a buggy software that can often freeze up and has difficulty performing well between software versions. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
